Sucess stories IVF for second child?

I was on these boards 2 years ago when we did IVF the first time. Luckily we were successful first time around with a fresh transfer. We thought we would have embryos to freeze for a sibling, but that cycle was “remarkably poor” (only 2 embryos out of 6 made it and we transferred both), so here we are having to do the whole process over again to try and complete our family. I am feeling like we used all of our luck on that first round and super worried this time we will have nothing to even transfer. We can only afford one round of IVF, so this is it for us. I was almost 37 then and almost 39 now, but my AMH is 3.2 and antral counts have been “just ok” at around 14. Just looking for anyone who might have some words of encouragement or success stories to share?

  • Lurking**  Have you posted this on PAIF? I think there are several women on there who have gone through the process more than once...  I wish you the best of luck trying again

@PoeMasque I don't have a secondary success story yet, but I wanted to say that I remember your name from previously being here as well. I'm trying for #2 now and also started over as I had no embryos left. I will be rooting for you and wishing you lots of luck with your new cycle!

  • @wabash15 i haven’t posted on the bump board, but I’m on that FB group and have posted there. A few ladies are gearing up for a second via different treatments, but I thought maybe someone on here - closer to my age - might have some insight. :)

@Tulips29 have you started treatment yet? We won’t start until May (our clinic only does IVF every other month). What did your RE say about expectations this time around?

Also - I read a study that said taking 600mg of CoQ10 per day for 60 days prior to IVF resulted in a significant increase in quality embryos, has your RE mentioned that? Mine only recommends aspirin, he doesn’t believe supplements make a difference. (I’m doing it anyway haha)

  • @PoeMasque I started in January and did my second retrieval at the end of January. We only have 1 ok looking embryo + 1 not so good looking embryo from that retrieval, so going in for another round to see if we can collect a few more. Interesting about CoQ10. I haven't heard of this and my RE didn't suggest it either. Too bad I'm less than 60 days from my next retrieval, but given my history with embryo quality and quantity, I'd maybe try it as well!

  • @Tulips29 I didn’t buy into the supplements thing at all, but I keep seeing research papers where it does seem to make a difference, but they all say that the only trials done were at 600mg per day for 60 days, so it might be effective at a lower dose and for less days. At this point I’m willing to try anything!

What were your your numbers like for your initial retrieval? We had 2A embryos, 3C, and one early blast that just stopped growing. The clinic we go to won’t keep anything below a B. Im obviously worried things will be worse this time around now that I’m basically 39

  • @PoeMasque So my first retrieval we had a 5AA embryo and a second one undetermined that was re-tested and came back graded as 4BC. 5AA is now my son and 4BC didn't stick. Second retrieval we have 4BB and 1BC. My clinic will transfer any that are deemed normal even though they are telling me the 1BC doesn't seem as promising. Is there there a reason your won't keep anything below a B? What if a C is normal?

  • @Tulips29 its my understanding my clinic won’t even send a C or lower for testing. I asked about it because I think we had two 4Cs last time and they didn’t even mention them until I pushed for more info. This clinic has only one RE and he likes having high success rates, so I think he only transfers what he feels are “viable” embryos versus the “try anything” approach other clinics take. It’s annoying, but it’s also his call as the expert I guess.

  • Hey lady!! I think it’s always nerve wracking starting up again for sure.  TW after my MC I had to start all over again as well and I was past 39 at that point and I’m holding my bundle as I type :)
i was OOP as well and banked embryos.  I did the supplements but can’t say that made a difference.
Each clinic grading system is diffferent but I have quite a few friends that had fair grades embryos and still bought home a healthy baby :)
    good luck!! @PoeMasque
