DD was all "No! No boots! NO SOCKS! NO COAT! NO SCHOOL!" this morning and while I feel the same way, LET"S JUST GET THIS OVER WITH, OK?! We had shingles blow off our roof yesterday during the windstorm and DH is at an 11 about that. And the windchill is -10 and I have 30 minute outside duty. Am a ray of sunshine today At least it's not snowing? Idk...
My city is known for their craft beer scene and this month there are special events to celebrate. I'm just b*'ing because I can't partake this year. Guess I'll just have to wait until next year. Pity party...table for 1.
@mwmiller4 I feel you. DD did not want a coat or hat today. Its -14 out so its not negotiable... sigh toddlers. sorry about the shingles on your roof.
my MBF... I finally told my mom about this pregnancy... her first reaction was "Why?" after about 20 seconds she caught herself and said "Oh I mean WOW".... I told her when I was due and she asked if I had known for a while...

I’m ready for cold and flu season to be over. My toddler has managed to get a cold every 2-6 weeks since September...and she passes most of them on to me, including the one she came down with this weekend. And she’s not even in preschool or daycare! So I’m finally not nauseous, but I’m still stuck on the couch feeling lousy and canceling all our activities for the next day or two.
@aecm I'm here feeling lousy with you (and I don't have a toddler!) my mbf is that I've been sick since Wednesday and I thought it was clearing up, but this stupid cough wont go and I just don't feel like myself.
TTC#1 10/2016 TTC/IF:included medicated cycles, IUIs and 2 rounds of IVF with 1 embryo each. BFP finally in 12/2018
TTC#2 06/2021 planning FET
"Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks, some doors are open, some roads are blocked"
@wabash15 Even is you expected it, that’s still a crappy reaction.
@avrilmai I hope you feel better soon! Part of my MBF is my cough. I have had it for about 3 weeks. This morning, a coworker slipped an envelope of herbal tea under the door and wrote “You might have tried this already...” but didn’t sign a name. I get that my cough annoys you- it does me, too. I’ve tried teas, honey/lemon, humidifiers, diffusers, prescription meds, non-prescription meds. Go. Away.
FIL texted MH this weekend & said MIL wants to get together soon “and hear more about the baby.” ::eye roll:: MIL wants more gossip & to know when she can tell people.
Hope everyone gets better soon. This winter needs to be OVVVEERR!!
My MBF is my friends health. She is in the best physical shape and is basically a hard core athlete. However, she found out that she may need open heart surgery in the coming months because two of her valves are failing. Like WTF her doctor said that she probably isn't feeling the symptoms because she is in such good athletic shape... if she were overweight or not as active her heart would have shown more symptoms sooner and not caused a second valve to start failing.... I want to help her but there isn't anything that anyone can do other than support her. She's so down that she keeps saying "if I make it off the table" I hate hearing her talk like that but I don't want to tell her how to deal with her situation. It's not about me its about helping her - but it just seems to be so important to go into surgery with a not quite so negative outlook.
@velvetskyy a positive outlook can make a huge difference when going into surgery, but sometimes people just need time to process. Its hard when your a super active person to face a period of inactivity. Maybe you could put together a basket for her surgery of things to keep her occupied during recovery... books, movies, soduku or something that invloves her hands.... having an outlet for energy is helpful.

@wabash15 I am sorry that was your mom's reaction. Even expected it still stinks.
I have a staff member who is a lovely person, but can be a bit self righteous and stubborn (seriously, she's great and we all have faults, myself especially). So sometimes when I ask her to do things a certain way, it seems like she has selective hearing. Some of it really matters, and some of it's little stuff, like this, but it makes me nuts that she always puts a middle initial for me--no judgement if that's how you sign your name, but it's not me. She does it because she has a problem with the fact that I took my husband's last name, so she puts my maiden name as my initial. 1. That's not my name. 2. I think it sounds pretentious 3. I asked you nicely not to a million times 4. I can still be feminist AF and take my husband's last name, thank you very much.
@EmilyA724 I’m not sure. I just know it’s two of her valves I didn’t ask for specifics since she started getting upset. The one I know has about 50% or 50mm pressure? (not sure which measurement but I recall they said if it’s at 60 she has to have the open heart surgery with a total replacement and not a repair). Sounds like mitral valve but it’s been so long since I was familiar with this stuff.
@velvetskyy Thank you--I missed your comment earlier about your friend. I'm so sorry to hear she's going through that--I can't imagine how scary it must be for here. I hope that she can take the time she needs to process and hopefully can find a positive perspective. It sounds like she is lucky to have your support.
Felt betrayed at work today. I just gotta be much more careful about who I say anything about anything to. Sad part it was my boss who took a small statement I made about a rotation I'm on and blew it up into something much bigger and added a bunch of his own assumptions. I feel like the people I'm doing the rotation with don't trust me now and I don't trust my boss at all (not that there was much trust to begin with, but now it's none).
@Amdogger82 I don't understand why she had a problem with you keeping your last name? People.make that decision for their own damn reasons. Ftr I kept my last name and I could honestly care less what other women do with their last names. I do make it a point to tell my niece that if she chooses to get married one day she doesn't have to change her last name. I don't think that option is brought up enough to younger girls.
@velvetskyy I think it really helps some people to know that those around them know what they want or whatever if surgery doesn't go well. If surgery does go well it's all easy after that right? But if not then its a whole other story. I had a friend who just went in for a partial hysterectomy and she was so anxious about not making it through and she just wanted to make sure everyone knew what she wanted for her kids futures and what not.
@sourlemon sorry about the work thing. I've worked for bosses I didn't trust at all and it SUCKS so much. Constantly looking over your shoulder and covering your own ass so they don't spin things the wrong way. It's exhausting and so stressful. I hope the colleagues on your rotation can at least see through the false info

@sourlemon that’s a really rough position to be in. I’m working in a pretty hostile environment right now. There are distinct lines drawn in the sand as to who stands where. Management refuses to deal with the issues and actually asked me to be the one to do so... I’m not even sure it’s repairable. I sincerely hope your situation can bounce back and you can work to repair the damage your boss did.
@sourlemon ugg that's a tough lesson to learn. It really sucks when you have to watch every word that comes out of your mouth. I hope the rest of the rotation goes on with out incident.

1. When coworkers put conference calls on speaker phone. They make headphones for a reason. Ugh.
2. I’m starting to really dislike my coworker. She doesn’t work 8 hours a day which shouldn’t bother me but it does because she only does 1 thing as her job. The rest of the tasks fall on me and even with her 1 job she still needs my help. It’s so frustrating. I’d love to work 6-7 hours too but guess what? We get paid for 8+ hours a day. She’s pregnant too and as bad as it sounds I’m praying she doesn’t come back after her maternity leave.
@velvetskyy my dad had a leaky mitral valve from endocarditis and got a repair in 2015 (surgery was on my due date with DD) and needed to get it replaced a year later. My dad was definitely not in good shape, and it was a painful recovery, but he did fine. I know it's anecdotal, and it's going to be scary no matter what, but hoping everything goes okay!

@Amdogger82 I kept my last name and added MH’s. I get irrationally upset when his family does not acknowledge my full legal last name. Either way, we chose what we wanted for names & others should respect that! I would probably start marking out my initial and sending it back to her to correct, citing the need for “use of legal name.”
I'm in automated photo call hell!!!!! Trying to follow up on our SquareTrade warranty claim for our tankless water heater. It stopped working so of course I need technician to look at it. I've been hung up on 3 times and I am praying that they don't hang up on me again. This is so frustrating. I feel like crying. My hormones were SO awesome last month but since hitting the 2nd trimester I've become gradually less stable LOL I might need a nap after this. So annoyed!
Sorry for posting on a Tuesday, but my MIL and her mother are both giving me crap for not wanting anyone to kiss the baby when he gets here. Sorry, I don't want your grimy, unvaccinated germs all over my newborn. I'm fully planning to be the mom in the hospital with the rules sign on our door that instructs visitors to wash and sanitize their hands, no kissing, leave if you're sick, etc. In nicer words, but that will be the gist.
@oklahomak, I’m the same. I already told my family they need to get their tdap booster when they visit baby and flu vaccine in December. Sorry but I’m not risking the health of my baby to appease people. I’ll be a crazy mom if I have too.
@oklahomak I say mama bear it up! my last got RSV at 10 days and was in the hospital for a week after going through an hot-baby work up... no one wants to watch your newborn get spinal taps, catheters, IV's, multiple blood draws all while struggling to breath and not eating because they can't breath... NOPE, never again. No visitors, no touching for at least the first month, maybe longer....

@oklahomak all the grandparents live quite a ways away, but yes, it applies to them as well. My DH did not tell me that my FIL was coming at 9d post partum last time and I was a hot mess still recovering, working on latch and severe pelvic floor weakness. I was FAR from happy when I found out he was on his way to see us. Nope, I would like to recover and be a hot mess in private (plus we only had one working bathroom at the time). Then DD2 got sick so I was in the hospital with her and didn't see him. DH and DD1 also got influenza A at the same time so I would not let anyone from the house come and see us in the hospital because the last thing DD2 needed was influenza A on top of RSV.

Oh please, if anyone gives you crap about setting rules for your brand new baby, let me at 'em. I will forever tell the story about how my awful ILs refused to parent their adult son and make him wash his hands after he was sneezing everywhere when they came to visit DD1 as a newborn. She had A COLD at like 2 weeks old without having left the house!!! Eff that.
@oklahomak Hold your ground!!! When DS2 was born my SIL had a fit because we wouldn’t bring him to her house where she smokes like a chimney. (She also smoked heavily while pregnant with her two kids and didn’t think that was an issue either). The older I get the pickier I get and would prefer no visitors outside of immediate family for the first week or two, but we will see how that goes. At least the kids will be on summer break, so less germs floating through the house. We are currently on round two of stomach virus - I’m so glad the baby is still safely tucked inside!
