Unpopular Opinions & FFFC 2/7 & 2/8

edited February 2019 in October 2019 Moms
I figured since this UO hadn't been posted yet Thursday, and since we are still a small-ish group, that we could just combine UO and confessions into one thread this week.

Let's hear 'em!

Re: Unpopular Opinions & FFFC 2/7 & 2/8

  • @galentine HA! That’s great.

Confession: My FIL is coming over for dinner and I am dreading it. I should be happy because we haven’t seen him in two months (lives 20 minutes away) but it irks me that he puts little to no effort into his relationship with my husband and our kids. He’s kind of been in a mid-life crisis for a few years and it wears on my husband. But I will put on a happy face and be a good hostess.

  • @galentine I just wish "I'm figuratively dead every day" had a better ring to it
  • @brownbarista I can’t stand my ILs,
so I always dread their visits, no matter how long it’s been since the last!

I have horror stories—in a nut shell, they think they are parents #3 and 4 and have all the rights that go with being a parent, including being in L&D (haha haha haha. NO! She was really upset about that one)

  • @cmbt2 I love my MIL and my SIL and BIL. It’s just that my FIL went off the deep end into constant selfishness since my MIL (she’s a saint) divorced him. After seeing him last night, I suspect he may be in a depression. He’s very machismo though so I know he wouldn’t admit it. All we can do is let him know we love him and we are here.

😳 dude your ILs sound rough.  I can only imagine the stress that adds to your life. Are you and your husband on the same page about them?

P.S. I was obsessed with Sailor Moon when I was younger. I watched it every day after school. Swooned over Tuxedo Mask. I wanted to have girls and name them Venus and Serena. I still have the manga at my parents house. 😆
  • @brownbarista unfortunately, no. My MIL is a narcissist who will cry and call me a b*** when she doesn’t get her way. My H has only just started to realize this and is super unwilling to tell her no because he doesn’t want to deal with her temper tantrums (which are exactly what they are)

example- we both had to travel the same week for work. My grandmother came up to watch the kids. MIL couldn’t understand why we both had to go that week because it was keeping her from seeing the boys as planned.

  • My confession: I am on the bump at work instead of, you know, working.

UO: Not all babies are cute. (Inspired by a friend's baby IRL who is decidedly NOT cute. But baby is its own category of lovable anyway so it doesn't matter.)

Of course I though both of my babies were cute so I'm not sure a mom would be able to tell, lol.
I agree. And I was more worried than I should have been that DS would be unfortunate looking lol.

  • @ceclarlinetlo oh my!! I'll definitely will be a fly on the wall feeling really awkward when that thread starts!! I'm not looking forward to telling half my family that yes, they have to see a Dr and get the Tdap vaccine if you wanna see my baby in the next year. And no, you cannot come near us smelling like an ashtray
I also require the flu shot. I give no craps. MiL thought I would relent on that one and learned the hard way that she wouldn’t meet DS1 until May (January baby) if she didn’t get one

Same! I gave people plenty of notice to get the TDaP and flu shot and didn’t budge.

I’ve grown up my whole life being told I can’t get the TDaP. My entire leg swelled up from the first one so my pediatrician wouldn’t give me the second. (Spoiler alert - even after I had a legit reaction to that one, my mom still got me every other vaccine on time.) Knowing that, I asked OB if I should get it anyway and she said definitely not. She told me since I couldn't have it that anyone else who was going to spend any significant time around the baby should.

With DD1 we told the ILs and my parents we wanted to see some vaccinations first. I was really surprised at how recalcitrant my mom was. I mean, she and my dad went and got their shots, but she was majorly passive-aggressive about it.
My MIL still hasn't forgiven me about it. Tough luck.
