Re: February Appointments Thread

  • How far along are you:
4w5d ish, but I assume this may change by a few days after my dating US

    When is your next appointment:
February 27th at about 8w3d. WHY IS IT SO FAR AWAY?

    Feelings about the appointment:
Very anxious about hopefully seeing a heartbeat. I had an early loss last fall, and I don't think this pregnancy will feel real until we see a heartbeat. I expect to be a nervous wreck until then.

When is your next appointment: dating scan 2/7; MW 2/21

Feelings about the appointment: just ready to get the scan over with. The MW appointment will end with a new referral to the MFM to start that fun all over again

  • According to my LMP I am 4w3d. I see my dr this friday for my first appointment. To be honest I am feeling indifferent ahead of it.  In november I miscarried a few days before I was supposed to go to my 1st appointment so I am feeling anxious that this one may not stick.  I don't want to get my hopes up.
  • How far along are you: 4w3d

When is your next appointment: February 12th

Feelings about the appointment: excited but nervous about a new dr and office. Glad they are getting me in this early. My last dr was just awesome 😢 hope this new one is as great.

When is your next appointment: March 2nd will be the first appointment, which is ridiculously far away

Feelings about the appointment: Excited because that's when we should hear a heartbeat! We'll plan on recording it for when we announce to our family the next week. My husband's grandma is blind and she would love to hear that I'm sure.

Most calculators go off LMP which is usually pretty accurate for people with regular cycles. Some will let you go by ovulation day if you know that, and that can be more accurate.

Are you having a scan? They don’t pull out the doppler until 12w, as an FYI.

most online calculators go based off your LMP, which is what providers use to determine due date. Exceptions to this are those who work with REs and people like me who’s dates don’t line up. If your scan is placing you within 7days of your LMP due date, they keep that one.

Really. Some women can get it at home after 8w, but it can take a long time and a lot of position changes. Providers don’t do it because if they likelihood don’t get it, it causes unneeded stress on the mother.

  • I am 5 weeks today, and I go for my first US on Monday. I have been working with an RE (and I was set to start IVF with the next cycle!) Should I expect a heartbeat with this US?
I will have another US 1-2 weeks later, then transfer back to my OB.
I am waiting until after this US to tell my immediate family. I am sooo nervous about MC and things that can go wrong.

It’s possible, but I wouldn’t expect to see one. It starts beating somewhere around 6w. I’ve heard as early as 5w and as late as 7w. I know too many women that went in around 6w and didn’t see one and then had to spend the next two weeks in limbo when they had their next scan

  • I’m 5 weeks. First appt is February 19th. I’m so ready for appt. I’m nervous and excited all the same time. Not sure how I’ll survive next two weeks waiting lol
  • I’m pretty jealous of all these February appointments. I was so looking forward to one but my dr office said they like to start at 10 weeks so it’s March for me.

Don’t be. 8-12w is pretty standard for the first appointment

  • Feb 19th!! I was able to get a hold of an OB-GYN and they can see me in two weeks! While I'm excited I don't have to wait a super long time, I'm also apprehensive because I'll only be 6 weeks so not sure if they will be able to see much on the ultrasound.

  • I was supposed to get a blood draw today to confirm but we have 6+ inches of snow and in the Seattle area that's basically 4 feet, so my Dr closed the office 😭

Glad they can get you in quick! 6 weeks is kind of a weird time because you might see something (I saw a HB with DS ar 6w1d) but its also enturely possible to not see much and it still be perfectly fine. Hoping you get the former!

  • @stephanie123456, can you take the rest of the day off as sick time? That's what I usually do with doctor's appointments, because we are allowed to use sick time for appointments. And they way I look at it, my work isn't entitled to know whether my appointment took 20 minutes or 3 hours 🤷‍♀️ I am definitely not going back to work after my appointment. If it's bad news I will need the rest of the day to cope, and if it's good news.... well I still won't want to go back to work 😉
  • @galentine mehhhh... not totally sure. I'm an exempt employee and was told during the start of my employment that I couldn't use partial hours, only full days. The distance between my work and doctors office is about 10 miles (maybe 30 minutes depending on traffic) so feasibly, I could come to work at 8am, leave at 10:45-11:00am to make it to my appointment at 11:30, then go back and work until 4:00pm (since DS has t-ball practice at 4:30)... gosh, if I told my work, I'm sure there would be no issues, but I dead-set against letting them know at only 7 weeks.

  • @stephanie123456 you could just say it’s a dr appt and not specify for what.  I did that with both my last two pregnancy till I was ready to tell them.

I scheduled an ultrasound for Feb 26 for viability as *** TW *** I had a miscarriage last time around at about the same timeframe. I will see my OB 2 days later on the 28th to discuss results of ultrasound. If all goes well, I’ll be doing NIPT shortly thereafter. Sooo... only a few more weeks of waiting.
  • I don’t know what I was thinking scheduling my dating scan for tomorrow afternoon. DS1 has an ENT app prior to it for a tonsil removal consult, so it’s just going to be a nerve wracking day.

This is likely a UO, but I should have had them pushed the scan back another week—I have this majorly ridiculous fear of being in limbo for 1-2 weeks if they can’t make a determination tomorrow.

Not an UO with me. I can go in with my husband literally anytime I want for a scan and I am still trying to hold out for 7 weeks to avoid a limbo week 💜.
