Re: February STM & STM+ Check-In

  • Loading the player...
  • Due Date/W+D: 10/1 based on LMP (5w+3d)

Other kiddos/ages: DD is 14months (almost 15 months!)

Nails/Fails: Semi Fail - Well, DD has been OBSESSED with YouTube videos lately. It just came out of nowhere. We showed her ONE (baby shark, obviously) and now she demands to watch them ALL THE TIME for like...way longer than I care to admit. She will bring me the remote and bully me into putting them on. Not sure if it's gonna be a problem or not or if this is just a stage. In fairness, we have been cooped up in the house lately because of this weather.

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? We are doing a budget/DIY basement remodel and have been held up on plumbing for 3 weeks now. Basically we can't decide whether to pay more money and get everything perfectly up to plumbing code (for resale purposes) or if we should choose to save money and just do the job so it's completely functional but not necessarily up to all the plumbing codes.. :#

    Appointments? Feb 19!!!! <3

    Questions? Nope

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? Hearing her laugh. DD has a crazy hilarious belly laugh that I live for.
  • @ceclarlinetlo My 2.5yo was an EI kid, too! It's amazing how much they (and we!) learn from the therapists, isn't it?? So many cool techniques to try. :) My kiddo had a gross motor delay due to a congenital heart defect.

@cmbt2 -- I totally agree with you. 1.5-2.5 is seriously underrated. They're so loving and enthusiastic and they're little sponges who want to learn everything.

    Due Date/W+D: Oct 2 / 5+2

    Other kiddos/ages: Almost 7yo and 2.5yo

Nails/Fails: Heh, yesterday, my 2.5yo wanted something from inside the shower, and he successfully swapped a new phrase into a sentence I'd taught him... and asked me, "Mama, can you open the door, please?"  <3 (I had taught him "Mama, can you take this, please?" so he'd stop throwing things on the floor in the car, lol, but this was the first time he'd experimented with it.)

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? It's finally February! We're going to WDW in a couple weeks, and I am SO excited.

Appointments? Next one is the 11th, our first ultrasound. :)

Questions? How and when are you telling your older kid(s) about their impending younger sibling? :)

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? Watching them learn new things, haha. That look of, "omg, I get it!" is the best!

  • @soralette right?? It’s so underrated! It’s really so much fun before the threenager sets in

as for telling- not until 4-5 months along; basically once it’s obvious.  We didn’t tell DS1 until close to the end (he was 27m when DS2 came along). We just didn’t think he’d get it until baby showed up. If he did, he didn’t make it obvious. He understood what we meant when we said we were going to get his baby brother (induction) and was excited to meet him when we brought him home.

  • @ceclarlinetlo "Toe-loos" is adorable o:) That's great to hear your DS is making so much progress! As your for MIL, *big sigh*. It's like you can't be mad at her but that's just an unfortunate situation.

@cmbt2 how long was the house supposed to take?!

@soralette As much as I want a climactic moment of telling my DD she's gonna be a big sister, she's just too young to understand at all right now. haha. Maybe she'll suspect something when she's a little close to 2 and starts noticing a big belly?

  • @theearlymajority it should have been done late October/early November

  • For any FTM lurkers (or STM
with younger ones) wondering what toddler/preschoolhood is like, here’s how my morning has gone- DS1 gets up at 6:20. He “lost” his lovey. It was in the living room. We spent 10 minutes looking for it. He has demanded to go the museum nonstop. He also wants his o gauge train set set up. DS2, who gets up at 6:30, stuck his hand down his diaper, grabbed poop, then mushed it all in his hands. He was very proud and kept going “what’s that?” Poop, every where while he was running around. He wears a disposable with a cloth cover on top to try to prevent this (jokes on me). They have both demanded food and drinks multiple times.

Its only 7:04am. They get tv privileges on the weekend (no
tv M-Th or before school on Friday) starting at 7am. In the past 4 minutes, they have demanded 5 different things.

  • @ceclarlinetlo I totally remember those potty training times when your kid is in the tub! I wish you all the luck.

@cmbt2 That's super sucky about your house! What's your new estimated time frame for it to be finished?

@theearlymajority Oooo, I hate those YouTube videos too! My son was the same way. I stopped letting him watch because I couldn't see the educational value in some of the crud he was watching (toy unboxing, other kids playing with the SAME toys he had).

@soralette SUCH A LUCKY GIRL! I'm in SoCal so we have Disneyland but I've always wanted to go to WDW. Maybe someday!

    Due Date/W+D: 10/14/19 - 3+5

    Other kiddos/ages: DS is 4

Nails/Fails: DS had a really good day at school yesterday (for a while, he had been acting out). He has had trouble sharing (doesn't really have to at home since he doesn't have any siblings yet).

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Can't believe I'm on this rollercoaster again!! But very excited and can't wait to get to know all you ladies!

Appointments? Since it's Saturday, can't call yet. My employer also changed insurance plans for 2019 so I have to find a new OB-GYN  :'(

    Questions? nope

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? Watching my kid and the sense of pride I feel at his accomplishments. Also, when he says, "Mommy, I love you" just out of the blue is pretty awesome.

  • @theearlymajority  I have a love/hate relationship with YouTube. DD would have it on all day if I let her. But, I have to say, I’m thankful for the peaceful showers I’ve gotten and the times I’ve been able to get the dishes done because of it. Don’t beat yourself up. Being cooped up because of the weather can be difficult on everyone in the house.

    Due Date/W+D: Oct. 13

Other kiddos/ages: DD turns 2.5 in a couple weeks.

Nails/Fails: DD has had two successful dance/gymnastic classes so far, but today, she refused to let go of me once we got to the studio. I tried everything I could think of to make her feel comfortable and to at least have her sit in the studio and watch the class (parents have to sit in a waiting room). I also tried my best not to be obnoxious, but I think after a couple attempts, the instructor and other parents started to get annoyed. I feel bad for everyone involved.

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? I’m super nervous about what having two kids will be like. I myself am an only child and DD is really good at being one.

Appointments? No dates yet. I will be scheduling an appointment on Tuesday.

    Questions? Not yet.

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?

Getting to teach my own child, showing her all the cool things about life, and seeing her reactions.

  • @stephanie123456 -- I've never been to Disneyland, so you've got me one up on that! :D Always wanted to go, though; maybe someday! I'm glad your DS had a better day at school yesterday and hope it's the beginning of a new trend for him. :)

@cmbt2 -- that sounds incredibly frustrating!! I hope they actually get it done this time. :(

Other kiddos/ages: DS is 2.5 next month! Er, later this month lol
Nails/Fails: we're in the no and hitting phase, so every day feels like a fail right now 😭
Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Just the house stuff which I've vented about in other threads... We didn't find anything close to love today and it was really disappointing...
Appointments? Tomorrow for a blood draw to confirm!
GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? How much he learns and how quickly he picks things up. Right now it's his copying! MH was sitting on the counter with him and he started swinging his legs, so DS moved to the edge so he could too, it was absolutely adorable 😍
  • Due Date/W+D:
    Oct 6; 5W1d

    Other kiddos/ages:
    F is 5.5, A is almost 2

    Nails/Fails:
I got both kids bathed and in front of the tv for the evening Pete the Cat show by 7:05pm last night. Turned on Paw Patrol for big sister so I could take bitty sister to bed...which then took an HOUR. Urgh....

    Rants/Raves/Dear Diary?
Add me to the "want to finish the house NOW" camp. We moved house in November and while the ground floor looks halfway livable, the top two floors (to mention nothing of the basement) are just one big moving box mess, will halfway built furniture cluttering up the place. Blergh. And now we're on a timeline because like HELL I'll be unpacking boxes in October.

    Appointments?
    Feb 20. W00t!

    Questions?
So...has anyone previously totally a couch potato started working out while pregnant? Like is there a good not-high impact but still toning/firming/whatever youtoube video out there I could watch and work out to after kids bedtime?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent?
My kids are amazing. I mean, every parent says that. But I could watch them learn and discover new things and see the joy dawn on their faces for hours on end (of course and then they fight but hey).

  • @grapeskittles4lyfe I did last pregnancy! I had a free trial from Beach Body online, they have a pregnancy series. I actually wrote them all down and then ended up just turning on music and following my notes after my trial ended 😬😂 the biggest thing is just listening to your body, you don't want to overdue it 😊
This pregnancy I actually started going to a Barre class once a week just before I found out I was pregnant and it's been going really well!

  • @grapeskittles4lyfe I started last pregnancy as a couch potato and ended it as a couch potato.

I started getting into a good routine with fitness classes and working with a personal trainer about a month ago. I just hope I can keep it up. I have never been one to enjoy exercise but I realized how much better my anxiety is when I do it regularly so I try to prioritize it in my schedule 3-4x a week. I have switched my goals however. I was trying to lose just a couple more pounds and improve my running pace. My goal now is to just get something done while keeping my pulse and breathing rate in a safe range. I use a fitbit to track my pulse and I keep my breathig such that I can still speak while exercising. Two days before I got my BFP I ran a 5K at a 12:30 minute/mile pace. This morning I ran 3 miles but to keep my pulse and breathing rate from getting too high I took a break between each mile and “ran” at a 14:00 minute/mile pace.

  • Good for all you ladies that are keeping fitness a priority! I don't think I'll be doing anything aside from the occasional walk during the first trimester, but I might possibly do a pre-natal yoga during the second tri. We'll see. Honestly I was pretty bad about fitness during my first pregnancy.

@grapeskittles4lyfe why does it feel like it takes years to get settled after a move?! We moved in July and I'm honestly just now feeling a little settled. @cmbt2 I hope you're able to get in the house "on time" this go around.

@nnaelilak I didn't see your other posts yet but I take it you're house hunting? It's SUCH a process.

lol SAME girl. i talked a big game about wanting to work out during my first pregnancy and i’m pretty sure that step machine my husband bought got a full 43 seconds of activity from me.

i’m gonna call it a win if i remember to stretch regularly this time.
  • If I hadn’t already paid for a full year gym membership up front I probably wouldn’t have any real plans for fitness. But the money having already been spent aspect is a good source of accountability for now lol. Its also two hours kid free so worst case scenario I can walk and listen to a podcast without some touching me all the time 😂

  • @theearlymajority yes and it is exhausting... We've been casually looking for about 2 years now and then found property we loved so we got serious. Now in the last 2 weeks lost out on two places that we absolutely loved (the property and this absolutely perfect house). And now that we're seriously looking  nothing is even remotely close to what we're looking for... So frustrating lol

    Due Date/W+D: oct 5/5 weeks 3 days

    Other kiddos/ages: Troy-5, Talia-3, Tiberius-1

Nails/Fails: just started to purge some baby stuff last week and then got a BFP 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? I’m on bedrest due to spotting. This is such a struggle for me. I have a home and kids to take care of. I just feel useless. I’m hoping to have some goodnews Thursday and maybe a reprieve from bedrest.

Appointments? Tomorrow, weds for a second hcg blood test.

Questions? Any other moms here That will be having their 4+? I’ll have four kids 6 and under in October.

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? My kids! They fill my life with so much joy. They make our home a full and happy one. They bring out so much in my husband and me.

  • @mamakculb Oh, man, bedrest already! I've been told to do reduced activity due to spotting and that's hard enough; I can't even imagine how hard it must be to be on bedrest with two toddlers. :( Are any of your kiddos in school/preschool yet?

    Other kiddos/ages: DS is 3 1/2

Nails/Fails: We are finally daytime potty trained! Night time is hit or miss

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Shouldnt there be a magic fairy that comes and cleans your house for you when you’re pregnant? Ugh

Appointments? So I see 2 different OBGYNs. The midwives who are local I will see at 8-10 weeks and from there on out. I also see a fertility care specialist because prior to having my first baby I had wonky hormone levels. I still see them once for pregnancy confirmation and then they monitor levels for me throughout the first trimester. I see them on Monday

    Questions? None right now!

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? Seeing my son accomplish things - we’re working on letters and writing right now. I’m totally one of those moms who think their kid is the coolest kid ever 🥰
  • @soralette it is rough. The kids aren’t so bad as I hate letting the housework pile up. My hubby is being amazing though. My oldest is in kindergarten but we homeschool so he’s still at home with me. He’s being a good helper too though.

    Other kiddos/ages: DD is 3 (Oct 2015)

Nails/Fails: Loving and hating having a 3 year old. She's so much fun now, but she's so dang sassy!

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? Rant - I'm starting to get nauseous and I'm terrified I'm getting payback for not a single bit of nausea with my first.

Appointments? March 6th. I hate waiting!!

Questions? Anyone else feel like life is a little easier now that the first one is older and your world is about to be turned upside down again? I'm nervous to add a second kid!!

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? I love watching my daughter come home from daycare learning new stuff all the time. This week she came home and sang "months of the year" song. And she told me we lived on the earth. So cool! It's so fascinating to me to see how smart they are so young.
  • @aprosch - definitely nervous about it being hard again, but also ready for those sleepy snuggles, and hopefully I’ll have another good experience nursing again. DS was a great nurser so I loved that. Atleast this time we know hard phases eventually end? I think the thing I am not looking foward is bathtime. I haaaaaated bathing DS once he learned how to roll over but could not sit up yet. It felt like he was constantly on the verge of drowning himself.

That's totally fair. I'm glad your hubs and eldest are being helpful and supportive!! <3 When do you get your next appointment (and hopefully have them let you have some more activity!)?

Oh, man, this is 100% my view, too. I remember with my first asking my FIL (who was staying with us to help out) at like 2am when my firstborn was perhaps 3-4 days old how people ever have siblings, LOL.

  • Due Date/W+D: Best Guess - October 12, 4 wks 5 days

    Other kiddos/ages: 18 mth son Jackson ❤️

Nails/Fails: Jax has been taking 2 hr +naps this whole week which has allowed me to get bills paid, catch up on homework, laundry and even paint my nails 💅 Fail: I feel like all I’ve been feeding him is chicken nuggets and PB+J every day! Kid is so picky!! And I keep cooking different meals and veggies, only to throw them out ! So discouraging and annoying

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? So one of my very dear best friends is constantly criticizing people on their parenting styles- this friend does NOT have children of her own. This bothers the heck out of me!!! Anyone else know someone like this? I remember before I had kids I might see something and be like whoa! Who does that ? But overall I’d keep comments to myself because you really don’t know how tough it is being a Mom until you’re there!

Appointments? First MW appt and ultrasound on March 4th

Questions? Any coffee drinkers out there that continue to drink through pregnancy? I don’t drink any soda or caffeine other than coffee but I’m hoping I can still have a small iced half calf from Dunks every day? My midwives last pregnancy were super ok with coffee but I feel like they’re lenient on a ton of stuff so hoping to get your feedback here ladies!

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? Watching my son grow everyday and thankful to stay at home to see every bit of it!

I have coffee. I have never given it up in any pregnancy. I have two cups (~200mg per day). When the coffee aversion kicks in, I switch over to black tea. I’ve had both OBs and MWs, and they have all okayed 200-300mg of caffeine per day.

Due Date/W+D: Oct. 8th according to an online calculator.

    Other kiddos/ages: Two boys, 5 and 3

Nails/Fails: My 5yo is speech delayed but I am proud of how far he has come with early intervention/speech therapy. My 3yo is FINALLY keeping his underwear dry after many, many loads of laundry and tears of frustration (from me.)

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? My very sweet, loving family is already giving me input on baby names. I’ll file that away into the don’t care part of my brain.

    Appointments? March 13

Questions? Some say 2-3 is the hardest. 1-2 was a doozy for me. Anyone feel like 2-3 was easier? 🤞🏽

GTKY: I am constantly humbled by the unconditional love. I often lose my temper and speak angrily to my kids and no matter what they still love me.
Don’t scare me! (Jk, kinda). My first is autistic and had signs from birth, and my second was the nightmare colicky baby you always hear about (milk intolerance and reflux). It can’t get much worse, right? RIGHT??

ETA- in names, our families tried that with DS1, and promptly learned I don’t give a —— what they think on names or what names they like. My boys actually share names with uncles 🤷🏼‍♀️

If it’s not obvious from my screen name, coffee is important to me. 😆 I continue to drink it but I try to stay within the recommended 200mg of caffeine or less. Note that I said “try.” 😉

Haha sorry! My first was an easy dream baby/toddler and my second was/is whatever the opposite of that is. Difficult nightmare baby/toddler I guess. 😂 I do love him though.  I’m just having a hard time imagining it being harder than with him.

My older son has markers for autism but not enough to warrant a medical diagnosis, according to those who have evaluated him. This was part of why he was so easy, I think. (Partly because he is naturally mellow and compliant) He fixates on wheels, so as long as he had a toy car he was content and quiet. My second has never been quiet a day in his life.

Hopefully because my kids are older now and less physically needy it won’t be too bad. At least that’s how I’m reassuring myself. How old are yours?
  • @brownbarista DS1 just turned 4. DS2 is 2 at the end of August. We got the official diagnosis of high functioning ASD (or what used to be termed Aspergers) in October after his SEIT, Speech therapist, daycare  and the school district pushed us towards an eval.

He started services right before his 3rd birthday through the school district and came in at 3% for speech and 7% for behavior/social. We had him evaluated for EI at age 2, but he wasn’t delayed enough. By the time he got evaluated by the school 8 months later, he basically had no improvement at all and got further behind. He’s now in an integrated program with pretty intensive therapy.

I also had PPD with him, and my H had PPA, so I think that’s partially why he was such a rough one for us

    DS2 just screamed 24/7 for 10 weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️

Last pregnancy is strangely when I started drinking a lot of coffee. I craved iced coffee so bad! So weird. Before that, I drank like 1 cup a week, if that. I didn't drink any coffee in the first trimester last time. Now I'm in nurse anesthesia school, which is a rigorous program and completely exhausting, and I can't gen enough coffee!!  Most days just trying to have 1 cup, but this week I'm studying for a test and have to stay up late to get in study time. It's killing me, so I've had more coffee. Going to try to cut back as much as I can but being in school and doing clinicals is going to kill me while pregnant! lol.
  • @cmbt2 My 5yo is also in an integrated program. I’m excited for you to see the progress that a few years of services can cause. Good for you guys for recognizing his needs and advocating for him. Having a typically developing younger sibling has also been helpful and fun for us.

Wow, I certainly think you deserve an easy baby this go round!
  • Due Date/W+D: 10/20

    Other kiddos/ages: G, 19m

Nails/Fails: not gonna lie, when I first read this I thought it was about actual fingernails... There’s my fail I guess haha!

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? My daughter is finally sleeping through the night more often than not!! Perfect timing since I’m sure the exhaustion will hit hard soon.

Appointments? March 14th 😫😫 so far away!

    Questions?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? +1 to what everyone else said. Also, this might sound a little narcissistic but I love seeing the ways that G is like me or my H. Like little mannerisms that he or I do or even just likes and dislikes that are the same.

@brownbarista I'm with you that 1 to 2 was cray! Seriously crossing fingers that 2 to 3 is easier... because I'm expecting it to be hard, right?
@Knottie1429025492 Yes, girl. Drink the iced coffee. I cannot live without it either and my very strict doctor totally ok'd it. Also, my bestie happens to be an OB! And she always rolls her eyes at me when I'm strict about the rules.
@manillabar Haha! You just reminded me I wanted to go get a mani on my lunch break...

    Due Date/W+D: 10/13, 4w 4d

    Other kiddos/ages: DS1 is 3.5, DS2 is 19 months.

Nails/Fails:  I have started to lose my cool with my kids. A lot. Like scream. :( See rants.

Rants/Raves/Dear Diary? My 3.5 year old is driving me bonkers. Not listening, constantly tackling/pushing/kicking his brother, regression to having accidents (he is totally potty trained and has been for a good 8 months at least), fake crying. The only time he seems to be fine is when he's watching tv, but I can't have that all the time. I know he's only three and every blog, book, doctor etc who I consult just reminds me he's little and figuring it all out. But this is a very bright child. He was speaking full sentences (shockingly to us) before the age of two and his memory is super sharp, which is why I KNOW he knows better. He is capable of behaving. He just won't.

    Appointments? Feb 25th

Questions? Any advice for my above rant?? Or do I just have wait until he turns 4? People tell me at 4 they magically mature.

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about being a parent? When they snuggle into you and everything calms and you can just feel how loved you are. Also, the funny mispronunciations of new words. So cute!
