Re: February Randoms

  • I'm in need of some recommendations.

We attend a few competitions for the program DH and I mentor. Part of our team spirit is coloring our hair but in the past we've only used that color hairspray which ends up making everything look like a murder took place since our team colors are red and black.

We're in need of something less messy, not damaging to the hair, and can last 1-3 days (if it's something we can apply every morning that's fine for us).

Ideally it would be something that makes our hair red red, not just slightly tinted red. I've seen colored waxes, colored shampoo/conditioner but I don't know how well they work.

    Ideas??

  • @prpl11butterfly preach! January was awful and lasted foreverrrr

@inthewoods23 I don’t have experience with it myself but I would think the wax-like products that make your hair crazy stiff would work best for making it super red since it’s almost like a shell on the outside of your hair
  • @inthewoods23 - I've chalked my hair before. You get your hair slightly damp, apply the chalk (artist's not sidewalk), and then use a hair straightener to set the color. It worked for blue!
  • @inthewoods23 how about nice wigs? Not the cheap ones that will look like a rat's nest within 5 min but some nicer ones?

  • @marebear15 one video I was watching recommended not using artist chalk because it could have toxins in it. But I wonder, does that really matter when it's being applied to hair?

  • @inthewoods23 - I don't really know about toxins in chalk, but I think if artists can use them and be fine, wouldn't we?
  • @lulu1180 I'm not really a fanfof the idea of using Kool Aid. Sounds like it would stain just as bad as the hairspray.

  • Yea, 3rd attempt. 1st time the test was overlooked and not even done (this I found out when I went in for the 2nd time). I don't beleive this is a training issue though because the guy explained to me the error and basically told me he had already been re-trained. I think FedEx didn't pick it up this time. I told them that there was confusion about the pickup schedule while I was there having the draw. I'd put $$ down that they will find it in the pickup box. They should have let me take the package to work since we have daily pickups.

  • @inthewoods23 yes! I'm low key freaking the freak out. Like, where did the samples go?! Does the pick up box have a lock? Did some random just grab them? Did the seemingly normal phlebotomist have a sketchy side? Does the FedEx guy have a sketchy side? Should I expect to be questioned for murder? Like WTAF is going on here!!!!
  • @holly321 yes! I have a former friend who was allergic to the cold. She was always "excessively" bundled up in the winter. As for you cat, it is possible the kitten was doing it because Indy was.
  • @prpl11butterfly omg that is just crazy! So not okay, they need to get their ish together

@holly321 I’m glad it seems be under control now; I didn’t know you could be allergic to the cold!  I hope it turns out not to be too severe when you go to the allergist. And glad you have no more shower pee!
  • @prpl11butterfly Oh my gosh, that's awful! FX they track it down! That would completely freak me out.

@holly321 Your poor son! I hope it's a minor allergy, if he is allergic to the cold. And poor Indy - whose name I love, btw.
  • @prpl11butterfly Oh man I am so mad for you! That is just unacceptable. They should put this on a rush for you now and be covering all the costs too.

@holly321 I had no idea that was possible. Poor guy  :( . Hope that you are able to figure something out and it doesn't bother him too much. DH suffers from severe eczema and as a kid was allergic to everything and anything too.
I wonder if the kitten was following Indy's lead on that one? Especially if he could smell it at all. Little bugger.
  • @prpl11butterfly wow, that is crazy!  Can you use another company?

@ruby696, thanks, we were going to Harrison Ford cats (Han and Indy) but the newest one was named Fluffy instead of dr. Richard Kimble.
  • @holly321 I'm not an allergist, but from my quick Google search, if his itching and hives went away with the Benadryl, he might just have a mild case. Anti-histamines are all they recommend for allergies to cold. He probably just needs to keep skin exposure to a minimum on cold days.

Interestingly, one of the articles specifically said it happens when temps get below 39 degrees. No idea how true that is, but I hope you get good news when you take him to an allergist ❤️

  • @holly321 no, it's my REs office that does the draw. The only other option is having them send the saliva kit to me but I much prefer doing the blood.
  • @prpl11butterfly - What on earth, they need to get their stuff together! That's just a weird thought, that your blood is sitting out there somewhere...
  • @inthewoods23, it sort of doesn’t sound like too big of a deal, but it sounds like it sometimes can be.  This stuff freaks me out because I have seen my nephew have too many anaphylactic reactions.
  • @holly321 oof yeah I thankfully haven't seen that with my cousins who have nut allergies. I don't even know if they carry epi pens with them in case of emergencies 😩

  • @holly321 my uncle has that allergy to cold too. He gets it when he goes in cold water, or if the shower is too cold. He comes out of the lake in the summer just COVERED in hives. He looks like some kind of sea creature. It's soooo gross looking and he totally takes advantage of it and chases us around to try to give us a hug while he's all lumpy and bumpy. Hopefully it's nothing serious in DS, but I can imagine it's super scary to see on a LO!

  • @holly321 Not gonna lie, I kind of love the name Dr. Richard Kimble. And all things Harrison Ford, actually...
  • @b_1029 :D omg yes men are such babies when they get colds
  • @b_1029 I feel your pain! I had to tell mh I didn’t want to hear about how his ear is clogged anymore. Hope yh gets better quickly to save your sanity.
  • @prpl11butterfly I would be livid! I hope they don't expect you to pay for that.

@holly321 I have cold urticaria which is basically an allergy to cold. It only bothers me when I'm out in it for extended periods of time. It caused severe tenderness to my skin once when we went to Disney World and the temperatures dropped to 30 degrees that week. So it is actually a thing. When we move to Alaska I will likely have to take allergy medication for it.
  • @inthewoods23 those are perfect!
