Bump complaints

Anyone else feel like the bump apps weekly facts aren't always accurate? I mean I guess they keep it pretty general even though pregnancy is hardly a "one size fits all." Things like "You may feel the baby move, but it probably won't be for a few weeks yet" I've been feeling the baby for at least 2 weeks now. Or "the baby maybe big enough for the dr to hear a heartbeat" They heard it at 10 weeks! Also the daily articles mostly all seem geared towards FTMs. I did tell them about this, just wondered if anyone else felt the same way. I mean it's not a huge deal. I used to belong to BabyCenter and I felt they were more accurate (but the community was far too drama-filled for me!)

Re: Bump complaints

  • It does seem like the articles are geared toward FTMs (which is me so I'm not complaining!) But as for the other stuff, like you said it's not one size fits all. My sister said she didn't feel kicks until 20+ weeks and I haven't yet at 15. Also they had so much trouble finding the heartbeat at almost 13w that I had to get another ultrasound. So, I guess I take it all with a grain of salt.

  • I don't read the articles anymore ... I use the Bump for the info tidbits each week and mainly for the community.
  • As a FTM I've somewhat enjoyed the articles, but they're certainly not the reason I'm here.

That being said, does anyone actually have the dark ventricle line on their tummy yet? According to the Bump, that was supposed to happen WEEKS ago and I've not seen any indication of a line.
  • @cindler I do, but I wouldn't necessarily call it "dark".

@quinniebear Yeah, that's a good way to put it, with a grain of salt. With my first two I didn't feel kicks until 18 weeks or so because I had an anterior placenta both times. I've felt definite "taps" already with this one, but nothing regular yet.
  • @cindler I never had a linea nigra with my first, you may not get one.
  • With my first they couldn't hear the heartbeat with the doppler until my 16 week appointment. I also didn't feel movement until around 26 weeks (anterior placenta).

This time it took the OB quite a while to find the HB at my 16 week appointment (but they did hear it at my 12 week appointment quite easily). I'm almost 18 weeks now and still haven't felt what I am confident is movement.

Everyone is different. I don't use the Bump for anything but the community so I don't really know how accurate it would be for me. I use Ovia and it's also pretty general to try to cater to a broader audience.

@cindler No one in my family gets the dark line. Not everyone gets it so you might be like me and never get it at all:)
  • Never had linea nigra with any of my pregnancies.

  • I had linea nigra only with my first baby and never since. It weirdly rubbed off like an old sunburn when she was a few weeks old.
  • I had the linea negra but it didn’t show up until I had a big bump.

What articles are in everyone else’s top lineup right now? It’s been weird that the past few weeks things I talk about, see posts about or google are showing up in my new article list but I suppose it could just be coincidence.
  • I only got a line negra in the last 8 weeks of pregnancy last time. Thats also when my belly button went from an outie to an innie. At this rate currently my belly buttons going to be an outie in a few weeks lol

    @mamanbebe Current articles:
    What to buy for baby
Design ideas for a small nursery
    Nosebleeds during pregnancy
    When baby gets hiccups
    (I'm 15 weeks)

    @canuckmomma I'm currently sporting a "flattie"
  • The size estimates seem off too. Sometime in the last week, my baby was as tall as a grande iced coffee. Now it's as tall as a folded up pair of sunglasses (which vary in size but are smaller than a grande iced coffee). My husband even comments on the size inconsistencies.

I've been waiting for the linea nigra for weeks but assumed because I'm paler than a ghost, it won't happen 🤣

  • @firecracker8 I had a magic 8 ball the other day, which seems rather large for 15 weeks.
@cbeanz I have those ones today, it must just be that people at a given stage tend to look those things up. So much for my conspiracy theory!
  • @mamanbebe I hate the app. I can’t even with the no notifications.
Also im pregnant so it just now occurred to me to just save the website to my homescreen. 😂
  • @firecracker_mama I laugh at the size estimates. Usually I stick to the weekly comparisons instead of the daily ones.
  • I just wish they’d let the community be how it was years ago. So structured now it’s hard to find answers to questions and it’s way more boring.

  • I hardly use the app because it is extremely buggy.  Articles often get stuck or keep reloading, and the community section is not really usable, and you can't search for information on it.  I mainly use the website in a browser.
  • @abnelsen22 Yeah the new hyper-organized structure to TB annoys the crap out of me.  And the boards are just so slow lately. I think it's because so many people left.
  • Also there is something buggy with the text fields on mobile.  I will be typing something and suddenly my words get changed!  I need to proofread every time I post because the text literally changes.  I don't have this issue with any other app.
  • @Cbeanz I'll typing then all of a sudden it will skip back randomly and I'll be typing in the middle of a different sentence. So incredibly annoying.

  • I agree with everyone about the size estimates skipping all around. Also, the Bump is bad at math. Today it says, "at 17 weeks you are three months and about three weeks along. At the end of this week you will officially be 4 months pregnant!" Except, in the math I learned as a child, there are 4 weeks in each month, 16/4=4, soooooo wouldn't we be 4 months along at 16 weeks, not 18 weeks?! I have so much trouble tracking as everyone has a different approach.
  • @julybaybay you’re in your 4th month currently. But not every month has 4 weeks. Sometimes more, something less. But that chart that @nopegoat posted is the best to go by pregnancy wise!
  • @julybaybay I think part of the issue with the math is the difference between when we start counting (last period) and when baby starts to develop (approximately two weeks after period). While our count might be 18 weeks, baby is probably only 16 weeks developed.

I've always had issues with the nine months/40 weeks discrepancy. This is the conclusion I came to to keep from going crazy.

My issue is that the notifications are always a day off from my actual count. Sometimes the notification will say I'm __ weeks 7 days...
  • Ladies. There are more than 4 weeks in every month but February.

There are 4.33 weeks in each month on average. 52 weeks per year / 12 months = 4.33.
    17 weeks/ 4.33 = 3.9 months. So at 17 weeks you're almost to 4 months but not quite.

40 weeks / 4.33 = 9.2 months. This means pregnancy lasts 9 months and about 6 days from ovulation to full term.
