Beta HCG results

anyone else doing betas?

My first draw from Tuesday came back at 12.8. Not a great number, but I turned a clear blue digital this morning. I think the cut off for that is 50, so I am hopeful for goodnews after tomorrow’s draw.

Re: Beta HCG results

  • They gave me a range of 5-50 for week 3-4 “normal” values. Did they pull you in the day you tested positive?

Mine were 176 (12dpo) and 419 (14dpo), but i‘m also that one person who gets a squinter on 7dpo and a blatant positive on 8dpo 🤷🏼‍♀️

I messaged my doctor a picture of my faint line on Monday and said my period isn't due for several more days when should we do betas? Tuesday afternoon I got a message back and she said (paraphrased) "yep that's a line! I can get you in today!" When I had my IUD taken out I talked to her about doing betas because I have a bit of a unique situation. DH is a 3rd year medical resident and so I know *everybody* who works at the clinic I go to. Every person's first appointment (even if you are an established patient) is called "OB orientation" and it is a group visit, and it is incredibly obvious when its happening. Since I have a history of MMC (two before my son) I just can't do OB orientation unless I know things are going as well as they can. I just don't need everyone knowing I am pregnant until I see a heartbeat. Thankfully, we have access to an ultrasound whenever we want because DH has OBGYN as part of his residency training. He can do prenatal care, and uncomplicated vaginal deliveries. We are planning to go "sneak in" after hours around 6-7 weeks before I schedule that OB orientation.

I have no idea what dpo I am. My chart was a hot mess this cycle. FF had me as ovulating on cd26, but that would have made me 5dpo when I got the faint, but clear enough to photograph line, and that's just not possible. Best guess would be either 14 or 11 dpo today. I go at 1:45 today for my second draw.

  • I am so happy to have our own board!
I had a super squinter 13DPO then BFP on FRER. Betas:
    1/23: 57.2
    1/25: 131
    1/29: 510.8
I was worried about the third number, but the RN said it was great. Phew!

You went up by a factor of 4 between 1/25 and 1/29, so yes, they’re good!

its like the reverse of half life. Instead of halfing every 36-72 hours, they double. (Nerd alert)

My second draw came back at 290 for 14dpo. Anyone put any stock in the high doubling times equals twins? I’m curious about that since my doubling time was 20hrs.

  • @mossn83 Definitely take a look at the site I posted above! Betabase has a lot of info on betas and doubling times for singleton and twin and higher order multiple pregnancies. :) 20hrs is definitely on the fast side for singletons, though!

  • @ceclarlinetlo yes, on both sides. My MIL was a twin (vanishing) and so was my grandmother. The numbers more line up to the dates being wrong over twins

    *TW- CP/loss mentioned*

they drew betas after my CP on 1/4, and they were negative so I know it wasn’t like there were two and only loss one. This idea has been mentioned to me by a few people 🤦🏼‍♀️

    My betas were:
    1/28: 154
1/30: 294 (this is when the nurse freaked me out by saying "we really need it to double, doctor is worried"
    2/4: 3,462!

So it had a doubling time (if I did the math right) of like 28 hours. Whoa!

Edit: I had 194 but it was 294 the second time, edited to correct.
**Lurking** Really irresponsible for the nurse to say that. Sometimes, it takes 72 hours to double and you almost doubled in 48.
@jenferlee82 I am side eying the nurse now that you edited your post. When it was 194 I could see that being a possible red flag for the doctor, but yeah, 294 was SO close to doubling in 48 hours. Sorry they stressed you out for no reason!

  • @ceclarlinetlo I thought the same thing! I even said “well it practically doubled” and she said “but it didn’t double, and we need it to double.” Then she told me all I could do was pray everything would work out okay.  Most nurses are amazing but every once in a while you get one like that and it’s so frustrating!
