Sorry for the delay in posting today. Freak snowstorm in Denver today. They called for an inch and we had 6-12 in the course of a few hours! Good distraction from PGAL brain. How is everyone this week? Anyone hitting 2nd trimester milestones?

Good morning! I’ll get us started this week!

1. How many weeks are you? 11w 1d

2. Previous loss(es)? 1 MMC sept 2018

3. How are you feeling? I’ve been having a lot of nausea and vomiting at night lately. I’m still exhausted but I’m functioning

4. Any appointment updates? I had another ultrasound yesterday morning which was previously scheduled but great timing because I had another scare over the weekend with another episode of bleeding. Doc confirmed that baby looks great, is now measuring with in 2 days of EDD and SCH was cause for bleeding... he said that the SCH isn’t angwhere near the placenta or baby and really isn’t a danger at this point. So overall, good appointment!!

5. Rants/Raves/Questions? I talked to my midwife about the genetic testing (we didn’t do it with my son) and she said it’s likely that our insurance won’t cover the NIPT test (they use materniT21) but we could apply for a discount and it would bring the cost to $400-$500.... or we can do the test with a higher percentage of false positives (5-10%) basically for free.... anyone else running into this dilemma? I’m nervous about creating more anxiety for myself by running the risk of getting a false Positive but not really wanting to cough up $500 either.

3. How are you feeling? Anxious, nauseous, tired, moody.

4. Any appointment updates? I am supposed to have a nurse appr at the new office today but thanks to crazy weather a lot of things are closing. Yesterday all non urgent medical facilities were closed. It is just a nurse appt but I am hoping to ask if someone can check for a h/b with the doppler really quick. My anxiety is so bad and with 3 prior losses and a SCH I need to knkw baby is still growing.

5. Rants/Raves/Questions? I am just really hoping I get some reassurance today and that they are able to schedule my NT scan. Trying to find a new OB this pregnancy has been a nightmare

@jmesue1030 that is a tough call. I feel like what you plan to do with the info would make a difference on how much the false positive rate matters. Also if the cheaper test came back positive would insurance cover an amnio if you wanted one? Personally I am cheap and a positive result is unlikely to change much for us, so I would go with the free one. It is a very personal choice though and I dont think there is a right or wrong.

@jmesue1030 If you got the more expensive test, would the amount you pay count towards your deductible (such that spending $ now saves $ later)? How old are you (might be in your siggy I’m on mobile atm)? Personally I would not choose a test with that much inaccuracy - as many as 1 in 10 people get the wrong result. That’s a lot. I was also reading the other day that for younger women NIPTs can be somewhat less accurate.
I don’t 100% agree with @Allycat11 that whether you would choose selective termination (not what she said but I think what she means?) is the only reason for testing. I see that sentiment a lot and I get it but it’s not that black and white. For me, idk what I’d do in every situation, there may be some situations where DH and I would choose selective termination, however there are some trisomies that are survivable but often require extra medical interventions in infancy and childhood (even with Downs, Downs kids often have heart issues). I would want to know about possible conditions, educate myself, and choose specialists beforehand to give a child their best shot.
All of that said, if you’re young enough you may want to skip testing if you don’t want to pay the $ and don’t want to risk an inaccurate result.

@jmesue1030 - Tough call. My insurance doesn't cover the NIPT we had done and I got it anyway, because knowing creates less anxiety in me than not knowing. I'm not sure how much it will cost yet. I'm not sure that's helpful, but its what I did.

@Allycat11 Hope your appointment goes well and they use the doppler to give you some reassurance.

3. How are you feeling? Okay. Still dealing with morning-sickness, but its getting a little better. Still exhausted.

4. Any appointment updates? Had a emergency appointment and US last Wednesday because I had some bleeding. Baby looked great and OB couldn't tell where bleeding was coming from, but she wasn't concerned. I had some more bleeding last night, so that doesn't help my anxiety.

5. Rants/Raves/Questions? None for now.

@ash0625 I'm glad baby was ok despite the scare!

@Allycat11 stupid weather. I hope you'll be able to get in soon to get that reassurance!

1. Supposed to be 10w today but US measured at 9w4

2. 2 previous losses, April 2015 and April 2018, both spontaneous.

3. Better than I was! Still intermittently nauseated. Sleeping poorly with vivid dreams.

4. We just had an appointment today. It was high stress. I was so worried it would be bad news after several episodes of bad spotting, and decreasing symptoms. At first as the US started, I couldn't see anything, no HB oroeven fetus. I almost cried. But the doctor was able to find baby! HR of 180. Little thing was dancing like crazy! Which the doctor was super amused by haha! She let us take a video, and even printed a pic for us. We've never had a picture of any of our other babies. So it's special for us.
We lost our last at 10w. So today was nerve-wracking for me. But now I have to wait another week to pass that point.
But at least baby is doing well right now!
Plus, due to the awful weather (it was -56 c this morning) a lot of people didn't show for their appointments. So we were expecting a 2 hour wait, but didn't have to wait at all! Yay!

@Allycat11 I think I am leaning towards the cheaper test (it’s the US where they measure the back of the neck) and my insurance would pay for diagnostic testing if needed. Yay for finally having an appointment!! FX it doesn’t get canceled!

@zamora_spin thanks for all of you thoughts!! Really gives me a lot to think about. I’m 32 and I’m not sure if I can apply the cost towards my deductible but if I can it would probably be worth it since we’ll be paying that regardless this year!

@ash0625 I have a few friends who have done the same, and I totally get it— whatever eases your anxiety, do that! Sorry about the bleeding you experienced— I’ve also Recently experienced 2 episodes of bleeding so I get how bad PGAL brain gets when that happens.

@chillycanadian I’m so jealous of your healthcare system!! We actually have “good insurance” and still pay an arm and a leg for things!! Soooo happy to hear that you had a good appointment today!!!!!

@allycat11 Let us know if you managed to get in for your appt and listen to the HB. I think choosing an OB is really hard. I wish there was a way to do like, a short meet and greet with a bunch of drs.

@ash0625 I'm sorry you are experiencing bleeding. I had bleeding for no reason as well around 6w and all has seemed fine. I'm glad the baby looked good.

@chillycanadian I'm sorry for the scary spotting but I'm so glad to hear today the baby looked great! I'm glad you didn't have to wait but sorry it is a million degrees below zero. Stay safe!

2. Previous loss(es)? 4 first trimester losses

3. How are you feeling? Good - boob soreness but my other symptoms (the occasional nausea and the lots of food aversions) seem to be getting better.

4. Any appointment updates? We had our first appt at the OB's office today and it went well. We met the u/s tech, a nurse and the NP I'm assigned to but not the OB, apparently we will meet him next time. It was a pretty long and comprehensive visit and I liked the office and the people we met. The baby looked great, measuring at 10w1d, good HB, and wiggling all around. At one point he or she waived at us.

5. Rants/Raves/Questions? Now that we're with the regular OB we don't have any more appts for four weeks (!). I do go in on Thursday for the draw for NIPT. The NP is having their insurance people check if it's covered and I was like, if it's not covered for a geriatric mom who has had a trisomy pregnancy I'm not sure who it's covered for. But even if it's not we have an HSA for things like this. Who is using a home Doppler? I have thought about getting one but I'm afraid if I have trouble finding the HB that will be worse than not having one, and also I think the "risks" are probably overstated but they do give me some pause.

I was able to get into my appt today, road conditions were brutal. Part of the drive was the worst white out I have ever seen, literally could not see a foot around the car. It was the useless nurse visit that easily could have been done on the phone, but they scheduled my appt with a NP for Monday and got the ball rolling for the NT scan. They also said they are sticking sith the original EDD of 8/17, instead of going off the ultrasounds, which measured 5-6 days behind...I have never made it to an EDD anyway. Todays appt was not even done in an exam room, just a nurse cubicle, which was super weird. At that point I was not comfortable asking for a quick check on the doppler. Now we just pray until Monday.

@Allycat11 that’s SO frustrating! Especially after the crazy drive there.

@jmesue1030 we paid out of pocket for MaternitT21 when I was 34 and pregnant with DD. It wasn’t covered but I told MY it could be my birthday/Christmas/every present forever because I so nervous. I also had 2 coworkers who recently had false positive NT tests so I was worried about that. It totally could have gone the other way for me. I’m not sure what we’d do with a trisomy 13/18 diagnosis but for downs I’d want to be as proactive as possible for heart/gut issues and getting EI help.

3. How are you feeling? Nauseous today but yesterday was pretty good. Still very tired and sore boobs. Impatient for next appointment

4. Any appointment updates? 2/11 is my NT and NIPT blood draw. We didn’t do an NT with DD because of false positives but the new ob didn’t think there would be an issue this time so here’s hoping...

5. Rants/Raves/Questions? We have today and tomorrow off because it’s so cold. My friend described being housebound with a 3 year old like being a cruise director with nightmare passengers and it is so accurate. My brother and SIL live 20 miles away and lost power— I’m SO grateful we’re warm and TV is a viable option between crafts and other toddler demands!

@mwmiller4 I inquired about the discounted rate for the materniT21 and was told they could get it to $299. I’m think I’m willing to pay that. I’m also going to call my insurance and see if I can apply the cost to my deductible. A false positive would not be good for my anxiety so I think this is the best choice for us. I am also home today with a rowdy almost 3 year old and extreme cold and wind chill at -23. I feel your pain!!

@Allycat11 Ugh. I'm sorry about how your appointment went. Praying with you for Monday. I have a home doppler. I have to exercise a LOT of discipline with it. Like, only checking once every few days, and if I don't find anything after 5 minutes I stop and try again later, not allowing myself to panic. It does reassure me during those long 4 week intervals between appointments. Especially lately because I've had more bleeding.

I had the blood draw for my NIPT 1 week ago today and I'm getting SUPER nervous. The longer the results are pending, the worse my PGAL brain gets.

2. Previous loss(es)? 1 MMC at 12 weeks

3. How are you feeling? Stopped my progesterone last night so a little nervous. I actually took it a week longer than the doctor said to...but I did that with my son too so figure it wouldn’t hurt.

4. Any appointment updates? Next appt isn’t until 16 weeks

5. Rants/Raves/Questions? Starting to get some energy back! My bump literally popped out last week so everyone at work knows I’m pregnant now! Some of them were mad I didn’t tell them sooner but with a loss history, I just didn’t feel comfortable. Everyone has been super supportive and wants me to eat all the time! Lol

@Babylovecali I've raged about 100 times on this board already about how much people's "expectations" around revealing a pregnancy frustrate me. I'm considering telling no one else at work this time around and just growing and letting people talk.

@mwmiller4 Thank you! Got the call last night. Results came back negative and everything looked great. We'll find out the gender on Saturday when my close family is over for my son's first birthday party. Poor little guy doesn't even get his first birthday attention all to himself.

Omg PGAL brain relieved! NIPT came back negative for all Trisomy and it’s a GIRL! After three back to back MC with a DC due to a Trisomy I cannot tell you the sense of relief. For the first time since finding out on December 12 I feel like I can finally breathe. I am riding the high for sure. My doctor called and I was in Noodles with my 3yo son. I started bawling. Poor son kept asking me if I was okay and giving me hugs. Now to tell Daddy that he’s got a little more estrogen in the house!

Awe thanks ladies. It means a lot to know that you all get it. I told husband by surprising him with a huge thing of pink balloons when he get home. He was shocked. I think the girl factor is still sinking in.

@chillycanadian hang in there. Glad the little babe is growing and your cervix looks good. Hopefully this darn bleeding will quit so you can just relax.
