@mayflower513 Also, I don't know how your hospital does it, but we had rooming-in ONLY after I was off the magnesium drip and anesthesia and so I had to take care of baby while still recovering from everything (pre-E/c/s) when my husband went home for rest/set up the bassinet/get the carseat installed/etc. My mom and dad came and helped out some when he had to go home and I could call the nurses but they didn't have a regular nursery where they could watch the baby while I rested a little. It was a little frustrating. They were pretty attentive and helped me with the swaddling, diapering etc when I was alone though. It was a little hard to do some of the stuff with the c/s recovery and I think they understood that.
I think I was a bit unusual though; they had to watch her the first night at the nurses station because she didn't need to be in the NICU or step-down nursery but I wasn't allowed to have her roomed in by myself with the pre-E meds I had been on. I think most of the time when they have ladies in that position, the babies need some NICU or nursery time and Anne was unusual in that regard.

Thank you @mbradfo2!! Ugh two renovations!! I don’t know how people do these! Thankfully this should be it (unless something unforeseen, like a leak, happens!!).
and I know my hospital will have the baby in my room and H will be there for the afternoon at least so I’m hoping there’s no taking baby away, but my doctor was telling me today that there are some reasons the baby has to get oxygen in the NICU after a c section (I forget what it’s called - when baby’s breathing fast because the fluid doesn’t all come out), and I also am leaving some room for the possibility of the heart thing requiring some monitoring. I wonder if the magnesium was the big driver in your case? Or maybe the pre E or just the whole combination of events. I would be very frustrated!

I love the late 3d scans! It is really a sneak peek of baby! The tech at one of my first BPP at 32 weeks did a quick 3d scan just for us to show the face and it really did look like she did when she was born! I don't know why it's so amazing because obv. the scan is seeing the actual baby...but it's sometimes hard to imagine that you have an actual person inside of you.
@mayflower513 It was because of the mag -- it gives you muscle weakness as a side effect and so you are on a catheter and bed-bound when you're on it and they keep you on it for 24 hours after delivery as a precaution. Basically, the way magnesium drip works is to loosen and relax everything in the body so there's less chance of a seizure from high BP. At least that's how the nurses explained it to me. I didn't personally notice much muscle relaxation as far as being able to hold baby or sit up or anything, but I guess they do it so they don't have patients falling all trying to get to the bathroom or something like that. I was off the cath and mag the next day so they moved me over to postpartum and brought baby back
I was incredibly terrified something would happen to her while she wasn't with me! I bet I drove the nurses a little crazy calling to ask how she was doing. It was so surreal to call and say, "This is Anne's mommy just checking in on her...!".

I just wanted to check in with everyone since it's been a while. I'm 39 weeks today and the c-section is on Monday (the 28th )! I feel okay... just big. I pretty much have all of my stuff ready. We're also in the middle of construction at the house so everything else is a mess, but it's really not my problem. It's for dh to deal with and I can't stress over it. It's the reason why the baby room is not set up. I will stay downstairs with him for the first couple of weeks. My parents will have ds#1 with them while I'm in the hospital plus a couple of days. I almost teared up while saying goodnight to ds#1 tonight because he just turned 2 and I know his world is about to change. I also know that I am not going to see him as much for a little while. I have mother's helpers set up for the first week once he comes home. I will probably continue with that for 3 to 6 weeks until I can pick him up again. I just remember the time after he was born being such an emotional time for me. (good emotions and bad.) I was a hormonal reck. Hopefully I'll just have the good emotions and expect to be tired. But I really hope to be less anxious this time.
Anyway I'll check in once baby #2 is here and will catch up on everyone else's updates.
C section moms - can you talk to me about the dads experience? Can they see everything? Do they cut the cord or no? Does the baby go to you or them while you're being stitched up?

@mayflower513 they can see as much or as little as they want. For both of my c sections, they gave H a stool to sit by my head. Typically, after baby is born they go to your H. You can talk to the Dr about doing skin to skin, but I've never been able to. I don't think they can cut the cord, but again, talk to your Dr and see. It never hurts to ask. Usually, they bring baby to you in recovery, altho again, I know some ppl that had baby with them the whole time. My H goes over where they are measuring baby and all that as soon as they let him. I think what happens really depends on hospital policy and your Dr. For insurance, my H had gotten to carry both our babies from the OR to the nursery, but that isn't the norm.
@mayflower513 DH was by my had, but could still see what was happening if he wanted to. They offered to let him cut the cord, but he didn't want to. He stayed by me while they measured and took footprints. Then he held her while I was being stitched up. She was on me to go from OR to the room I'd been in for labor and again on me going to the postpartum room. Policy said the baby couldn't be carried in the hallways. I got to nurse within minutes of the C-section (before we went to the postpartum room). Overall, the hospital encouraged nursing and skin to skin as close to the delivery as possible. Mine wasn't planned, so I don't know if that makes any difference
@mayflower513 Same here - DH was brought into the OR after they put in my spinal and got prepped; they gave him baby first and I didn't get to hold her until I was in the recovery room and then I held her as we were taken by to our delivery room. The next day we went to postpartum.

@mayflower513 DH got to hold her first and he was there for measurements and took pics of her. He was by my head the entire time, not sure if he had an option. I held her in the recovery room and got to breastfeed then. I think I vaguely remember that they wanted me to hold her while getting stiched up but I was shaking really badly from the drugs (like shivering, but I wasn't cold) so they wouldn't let me hold her. I was ok with that because I don't think I was capable of holding her in that moment.

@kbear28 hi!!!!!
mayflower513 omg! Are we twins? My husband is also a project manager in construction but he can’t get shit done around the house…I’m the fucking project manager then. Lol And I’ve seen him in action at work and I’m like dude, this can’t last long. He’s the worst!! Hahaha but…he’s the best at building, remodeling, renovating anything like that. He just can’t manage people.
kristimh80 awwww so cute!! My growth scan is tomorrow. Last month he was 2lbs, 11oz. Curious to see how much he weighs now.
