Breastfeeding help

Hey ladies!
This is my second child and first time breastfeeding. I have been doing good with lactation (up until recently) and my son has been doing good with latching. As I was pumping I feel like I haven't been producing as much as I used to. After pumping I could produce anywhere from 2.5 oz to 4.5 oz. Today I have only pumped once and made 2oz.
I feel like I'm not producing enough or could do better. Now I know that I should pump more than what I do. My son just keeps eating so I don't or hes asleep and the moment I move him he cries. If I leave him to cry he will keep going anf going. Question is if I pump more starting today with all the normal feedings will I produce more? My son can eat and eat until my nipple hurts (I've been using nipple cream). I have to use a nipple shield to feed I have tried not using it but he doesn't latch that well without it.
-Could you ladies give tips?!
-Has anyone tried the lactation cookies or recipes (post the recipes please)? Have they worked?
-is it normal to only get 2 to 4oz out of pumping?especially if he keeps eating.
-how often should I pump?

please no bashing this is my first time that I'm breastfeeding. With my first I gave her formula.

Re: Breastfeeding help

  • Pumping more can increase your production. However, getting 2-4 oz after nursingbis pretty good! I wouldn’t worry too much about your production. I did use fenugreek, blessed thistle, and mother’s milk tea last time, to increase my production. Good luck!

    • Nobody here (the December 2018 regulars at least) is going to "bash you" for feeding a baby, that's asinine.
    • Google "power pumping" a lot of people use it to boost their supply.
    • Nobody can really tell you how often to pump - it's different for every mom & baby.
    • I ate a lot of lactation cookies (ready-to-eat like these, Amazon), and lactation teas - neither increased my supply. They won't hurt as long as you're not allergic, but don't expect miracles.
    • Drink all of the fluids! General hydration is key.

  • Pumping more will help increase your supply but dont beat yourself up if you can't do it more, it is a lot of work to set up and get baby settled timing wise. Once a day is still great. Look into power pumping as well.

I've made these cookies and they are good but I can't say for sure that they increase your supply but it wont hurt and they taste great!
