September 2019 Moms

New England Momma's!

Thought it would be nice to have a little group for any moms in the New England area!

What state do you live in:  RI

How long have you lived here:  Whole life!  Lived in MA growing up, went to college in MA then moved to RI when I got married.

Favorite part of living in NE:  Having beaches in my backyard and ski mountains within driving distance!  Oh and the Pats of course  :D

Other pregnancy thoughts:  I think September is such a great month to have a birthday in around here!  Still warm and can enjoy the beach but have the fall weather & activities right around the corner  :)  I am definitely not looking forward to being nearly 9 months pregnant in August though, yikes!

Add any other questions you would like to know as well!

Re: New England Momma's!

  • **lurking** Just here to remind yall who won Super Bowl LII...

    #phillyphilly #bleedgreen #flyeaglesfly
Also, I lived in MA (Boston, Allston, & Cambridge) for 5 years during my undergrad & loved it. Minus the Pats winning the Super Bowl during my time there, which was crushing. However, I got to be there when the Sox Reversed the Curse! Which was awesome! ^_~*
  • lololol nicky foles!!! I actually like that goofball even tho I am not an eagles fan.

    BOO PATS.

Sorry, had to. Carry on, New England mamas....

  • I'm in MA, born and raised and never left. My fave part of living here is having the proximity of Boston and the beaches but also lots on indoor options like museums, etc. My not so fave part is how expensive everything is and the cold winters. Pregnancy thoughts: I was a little disappointed to not be having another May baby. I do love September but I really enjoyed having my maternity leave over the summer. I'm already worrying about putting a 3-4 month old in daycare during the height of flu season.
  • Hi fellow New Englanders,

I live in Boston and have for many years, though I'm transplant from the SE so I'm not a Patriots fan. I love fall in the NE (as long as the fall in gentle and not actually just winter). @SmrBrd2012 I also do not love the cost of living and cold and am dreading having an infant in daycare in December.

I loved having a July baby and having the summer off. DS and I walked miles everyday. I really hope September and October will still be nice.
  • @SmrBrd2012 & @bostonlady-2 I did not even think of putting a baby in daycare in December during flu season... yikes!!  I have a sister that lives in Boston and know all about the cost of living up there, it is insane not sure how you do it!  But Boston is so fun and I just love visiting (minus all that traffic!).
  • I’m from Maine here! Been here my whole life so far. I don’t love winter but I do enjoy the snow for the holidays, but fall is by far my favorite time, I love the colors, the smell, the crisp air, fresh apples, pumpkin everything!

i am also not looking forward to being super pregnant in august... ugh!
  • @mainemomma8316 I love Portland!  Have been there a couple times and was hoping to go again this summer but plans may be changing now!  Such a fun place, it reminds me of Newport down here in RI.
  • I'm in Connecticut which is New England by some standards haha but our MA family says we don't count :) We lived in Fall River, MA for the first 7 years of marriage but also have lived in Shrewsbury, MA and Norwood, MA. I went to New England Law in Boston and DH went to Wentworth also Boston.

I wish we could move back to Norwood, that was my favorite, but we both have jobs in the Hartford area and that commute was brutal. DH is a huge Boston sports fan being from MA, and just got Bells a Patriots cheerleader outfit at Target - so freaking cute. I'm from MD so like the Ravens and the Orioles but root for the Boston sports teams because they are better. I loved the O's back in the mid-90's but they haven't been good since Ripkin left, and the current owner is driving them into the mud.

The best thing about New England IMHO is you know where you stand with people. Down south people are fake nice but you don't get that crap from NE'ers and it is so refreshing. I have no use for fake people.

  • @leksiL I've lived in norwood for about 5 years now. :) it's nice but we will probably move further from the city so we can afford a house. :| It has gotten so expensive here.
  • @SmrBrd2012 Yea houses in Norwood are 3x what they are in our CT suburban town. But the taxes are 1/3 cheaper so the mortgages would be about the same. :-| I'd rather have equity then pay more taxes LOL. Either place is 1000x better than the Riv! ;)

  • @leksiL I use to live in Fall River and Somerset!  And I totally have to agree with your assessment of NE'ers, we are brutally honest haha
Big game tomorrow, get that Pat's outfit ready! 😀
  • Any new New England momma's out there?!?  I know there are a lot of newcomers to the site and would love to meet you all and chat!

And BTW GO PATS!  That last game I had so much anxiety and excitement that I was actually concerned for the health of myself and this baby!!  Definitely forgot I was pregnant while I was yelling at those damn refs  :D What an emotional rollercoaster!

@leksiL I live in CT (Fairfield county) so I think I am def gray area here!

@kagesstarshroom I also lived in Cambridge around the same time! What a coincidence:) I’m not a huge baseball or football fan but I do love me some hockey - I am beside myself when I’m rooting for the bruins!

I grew up in NYC but it’s a pretty similar culture. You know where you stand. It takes a while for people to warm up but then you have people in your corner when you need them. I appreciate that because I am pretty no nonsense.

@jeepwave my husband and the kids and I spent some time in Newport - it’s a perfect trip to make for us distance wise with small children. We had a blast every time.

  • What state do you live in:  NJ

How long have you lived here: 3 months! We just moved here after living in Houston for 6 years. I’m originally from San Diego. (Not a Pats fan... Still mourning the loss of my Chargers to LA)

Favorite part of living in NE:  Fall! I’ve never seen so many trees such beautiful colors before 😍

Other pregnancy thoughts: Ready for the nausea AND winter to be over!!! I feel crappy and I’m freezing 🥶
  • @rms924 i love Newport so much! I met my husband and got married there ❤️
  • What state do you live in:  Maine!

How long have you lived here: My whole 33 years so far :)

Favorite part of living in NE:  The Ocean, NE Patriots, Foliage

Other pregnancy thoughts: I am anxiously awaiting my first OB appointment on Feb 6th!
  • What state do you live in: RI

How long have you lived here: All of my years

Favorite part of living in NE: the seasons and the wide variety of activities at my fingertips!

Other pregnancy thoughts: Keeping this secret is the hardest part! Just a few more weeks till we break the exciting news to family 😁
  • @jpbling hello fellow Mainer!
  • Hi fellow NE mama's! we live in the Metro West area about 20 miles outside of Boston. My favorite thing about this area is the city culture, great restaurants, lots of things to do for families and the people. My least fav thing is the same as other fellow Boston dwellers...the cost of living is INSANE. This might be blasphemy but I don't care that much about football...but I do love to go to a Celtics game whenever we have the opportunity!
Pregnancy thoughts: My other two babies are December born so I was never in my first trimester during cold and flu season..its particularly stressful worrying about getting sick on top of already feeling bad. And I don't want to scare any of you that don't need another thing to worry about, but a fever during first tri can cause birth defects and I have been SO worried about that lately as my older two kids seem to be constantly bringing some new illness into the house! We are just getting over the dreaded stomach bug!
Looking forward to getting to know you all better!
  • @Junebugmugalug I totally agree with you about the ridiculous cost of living and I also find the Pats a bit overrated.... About your concerns about fevers, based on the papers I read, it's heat itself that can be a teratogen, not really the associated colds/viruses. So, if you get sick, maybe Tylenol around the clock would at least prevent fever. Also, DS is constantly bringing stuff home and I always have a cold, but I think the last time I had a fever was years ago when I had the flu. All of this is an effort to try and reassure you! Fingers crossed for no illnesses.
  •  So many Boston area mamas here!!

What state do you live in:  I live a few miles outside of Boston in a suburb

How long have you lived here:  Whole life!  Grew up in RI, moved to Boston area as a teen and never left.

Favorite part of living in NE:  Having beaches and family so close by.  I love seasons, but hate the winter.

Other pregnancy thoughts:  We have a daughter who just turned 2 in January.  I am not looking forward to being 8 months pregnant in August, but I am glad to not worry about snow when getting to the hospital this time around.

    @mainemomma8316yay hello Maine friend!
  • Hello @plantbabe I'm a fellow Rhode Islander!

@Junebugmugalug I'm also in fear of getting sick!  I am trying to keep my distance from sick co-workers who don't stay home UGH!

@aca12017 I didn't even think of the risk of getting to the hospital if I had a winter baby!  My concern now is getting stuck in beach traffic!
  • @jeepwave  Eek! beach traffic would have been a tricky one.  We aren't near the beach but I could picture that as tricky!.

@junebugmugalug Also nervous about bugs.  I work with kids and so many have been calling out sick with the stomach bug, and norovirus and the flu the last few weeks.  Using ALL the purrell!
  • @aca12017 I work with kids too! and they are constantly spitting while they try to talk WAY too close to my face!!
