@JamieH2000 Ugh, hope they're able to keep baby baking a bit longer! Have you picked a pediatrician yet? If so, maybe they can chat with you over the phone so you can give them a heads up about what's going on so they're prepared when baby arrives and they can give you some reassurance We see TONS of 32-35 week preemies due to pre-E or pregnancy-induced hypertension and they typically do just fine
And yeah, once you get to 35 weeks, most doctors will just deliver if you have pregnancy-induced hypertension or pre-E, especially if they don't feel confident about keeping your risks down. For the baby and mom, it's not worth the risk just to get to 37 weeks since most late pre-term babies do as well as full term babies these days, especially if their size is on track for their age. My MFM was willing to push it to 37 weeks but only if my labs were perfect (which they weren't).
It's a little scary to think about the possibilities of what could happen beforehand but I promise those will all fly from your mind once baby is here, whether they need NICU time or not. You will just be full of love for that little one
@tosh24 Looking forward to seeing your little one! Hope all is going smoothly
As a reminder to all the ladies getting ready to deliver, we have a PAIF Graduates thread AND a closed Facebook group -- the Facebook group is where most of the action is! https://www.facebook.com/groups/563424387441169/

@tosh24- congrats girl! He is adorable!! Can’t wait to hear the name and glad labor is over! Did you do an epidural?
@mbradfo2- I actually just called the pediatrician I wanted and she is expecting and due at the end of this month! So I’m gonna go with her partner. Sounds like I just call once the baby is born and we know when he will be out of the NICu. Sounds like the neonatologist will handle everything while in the Nicu. They most keep a lot of appointments open to get in babies right after they are born...
Thanks for all the thoughts! We got it down to 138/93 so I will take that since it’s normal for me right now. Just crazy how it can go up and down and I can’t do anything about it. At this point, I’m pretty sure I won’t get out of here but hoping we can still make it to 34 weeks and maybe even beyond. Doing my best to take it day by day

@JamieH2000 Yep, we squeeze babies in wherever we can in our scheduler. We also try to hustle babies to back once an exam room is free so you aren't out in the waiting room long!
The up/down thing is my anxiety issue with BP -- it'll be good once and then bad once again! Are they checking you every 1 hr manually or do you have one of those automatic cuffs that is scheduled to take BP every so often? My BP was much better on the automatic cuffs since I didn't have time to freak out and get anxious about it.
Are you bored out of your skull yet or are you keeping busy? I need to actually be in my home office to do any work so I just read online forums, books and slept while I was in the hospital. A little TV, but most tv is awful....I do remember watching the Walking Dead during my induction on Sunday pm XD Got caught up on all of the episodes haha

Hi everyone! I think I'm a day early joining this board, but I'm 28 weeks tomorrow, so I figured I'd come over and introduce myself. It's great to see a lot of familiar names over here! So...
If you're just joining us please post a:
Mini synopsis in your first post with your EDD - Hi! I'm 27w6d today, due 3/29/19 with a girl. I have a 7 year old daughter. We started trying for #2 when she was just over 2 years old, and after about 4 years of trying various things and ultimately 2.5 IVF cycles (had to stop one because I ovulated on my own), here we are!
How many babies you are pregnant with - One.
If you know the gender(s) - Girl!
How you have been feeling in your 3rd tri - Overall I've been feeling pretty good lately, though I'm more physically tired these days. Also experiencing heartburn in full force - I feel like I can't eat more than a few bites without it flaring up and I also feel like it takes me forever to digest.
How far along? EDD? See above
How is everyone feeling this week? Good, aside from the heartburn.
Any upcoming appointments? In just a few hours - 1-hour glucose test, plus a growth ultrasound and then regular OB appointment. No idea if this OB appointment is just a quick 'how's it going' or if he's going to get all up in my business, which could be interesting as I'll have my daughter with me...
GTKY: Any New Years plans and/or resolutions? We had a fairly low-key NYE and a good holiday break overall (I was off work all of last week and part of this week, just went back yesterday). Resolutions are to be more active in my 3rd trimester (considering I've done hardly anything that would actually qualify as "exercise" so far, I would like to just get back into walking more and some low-impact stuff), and then especially after baby girl gets here, to focus on healthier food choices (I have been craving sweets so badly this whole pregnancy). Also, I'd like to read 2 books a month this year... we'll see how that goes!
Don't forget about HDBD or PIP your nursery! Here's a bump picture from Christmas - it's one of the ones we put on Facebook when we announced there last week!
@mbradfo2- that’s good to know they will squeeze us in! Do most people interview the pediatricians at your place? I can’t do that now, but they sounded great in their videos online. They mostly do the automatic cuff here but in the clinic they would double check it manually sometimes. I kinda feel like the electric one can be higher for me aometimes but who knows! I have now been in here 3 full days and nights. So far I haven’t been to stir crazy or bored. Been keeping up on work a little (on leave now tho), watching tv and outlander on STARZ and reading a baby book. Lots of people have been texting and calling too. I’m sure it will get old soon, but so far doing good.
@kristimh80- is your bday 2/20?! Gosh I wish I could make it that far! They def won’t let me go past 1/30 now, but unless things are super stable, it will likely be sometime next week
@uterusdreams- welcome!! I hear you on the heartburn! It’s so miserable. I have been taking Zantac twice per day and it’s the only thing that helps. They told me to not take too many tums since it can be hard on the kidneys.

@jamieh2000 Yep, that's my bday! Awe, on the bright side, you'll get to meet your little one soon!!!
Question: Anyone get Braxton Hicks contractions? FTM here and noticed the last day or so what I think maybe them in my upper abdomen area. They aren't painful, just like little cramp-like feelings. Nurse asked me last week if I had any, so now I'm wondering if this is what they are. But I'm clueless!

@kristimh80 I get them a lot. My first pregnancy I started getting them at like 20 weeks. It was an overall tightening with no pain whatsoever. This time it’s tightening with some discomfort, the last week I get menstrual cramp feelings with them. So I think it can vary - you’d definitely feel/see your belly tighten regardless of the rest though.

@JamieH2000 Yep, alot of parents will do "meet the doc" interviews but that's sorta a recent trend! Does your hospital have mandated NICU time depending on gestational age? I think they usually say anything less than 35 weeks has to have a period of observation/care in the NICU to make sure all is well, but I think every hospital is a little different. Maybe you'll just have to be in an step-down unit for feeding and growing!
Are you still in observation in labor and delivery or did they move you over to a more permanent room? The observation bed gave me a horrrrrible backache.

@mayflower513 Good to know! Mine today felt like someone was tapping my belly with their finger nails. I didn't bother seeing if I could see anything happening, but will look the next time!
@JamieH2000 We have a meet and greet with the pediatrician. Since they usually come to the hospital when the baby is born, I wonder if you can call and have something worked out ahead of time. My OB referred me to mine, so maybe another option to ask. I'm sure they are use to such situations like your's and they can make something happen. It's not like there's not going to be a few babies born being checked on while you are there

@uterusdreams Welcome, and I hope all went well at your appointment today!
I just had my growth scan and baby looks fine and is about 6lb 2oz. They looked at the heart a lot again and still are not concerned. I may tell my OB no more scans ... unless he sees a need or they have to check babies position before birth.

How is everyone feeling this week? Pretty good. No complaints. Just feeling larger and larger by the minute.
Any upcoming appointments? Had one yesterday. Diabetes One Hour Test: PASSED; 28 week growth scan--baby weighs 2 lbs, 11oz. Then had a scheduled regular OB appt which I walked out of because I waited 50 minutes for the doctor. I emailed him later to ask about my US results and he told me a new OB patient went before me when they shouldn't have had. He told me to reschedule the same appt which I can't do so will schedule again in a month. I should be able to schedule my C-Section in two weeks.
GTKY: Any New Years plans and/or resolutions? We were on the road visiting my parents and then went to Connecticut to see some friends for New years eve. Feels good to finally be back home. We also celebrated my daughters birthday who turned 2 right on New Years Eve!
Don't forget about HDBD or PIP your nursery!
If you're just joining us please post a:
Mini synopsis in your first post with your EDD: This is Baby #2. Had 4 eggs in freezer, used one and worked on first try. It was a longer journey with the first one.
How many babies you are pregnant with: 1
If you know the gender(s): Boy
How you have been feeling in your 3rd tri: Just feeling really big and tiring with a two year old but managing. I"m late in the game here I know and want to respond to everyone but just finishing my vacation here. Back to work on Monday and will be able to write more then.
thanks @JamieH2000 and @mbradfo2 Thankfully no protein in my urine yesterday and my bp was 122/90 at hte Ob's so he doesn't seem worried. THis morning it was 130/86 at home, so maybe it's just late pregnancy fluctuations?
@JamieH2000 Glad to hear your bp went down again. How are you feeling today?
@uterusdreams Yay! Welcome to 3rd tri! Such a cute picture! FX for good glucose test results.
@Drove2u Welcome to 3rd tri! Glad to hear your passed your 1hr!
AFM: NST and OB appt went really well yesterday. OB told me that I had one of the best NST's he's ever seen. I mean, it felt nice to hear that but what does that really mean? lol Baby did NOT like having that monitor on. He was kicking directly at it the whole time and then got hiccups at the end. Growth scan on Monday morning with the MFM.

@tosh24 I completely missed your post when I first posted, now I feel like a dork for not saying this sooner/in my original post but CONGRATS!! He is beautiful.
Thanks for the welcome & good wishes, everyone! I heard back from my OB's office and I bombed the 1-hour glucose challenge, so I go back on Tuesday for the 3 hour. Hopefully it will be okay, I'm mostly annoyed that I have to sit there for 3 hours and there's no wi-fi in their office (I was hoping I could bring a work laptop and not use sick time to be there since I'm scrapping it together as it is to save for leave). I may ask my boss if I can just stay an hour later every other day next week to make up the 4 hours I'll miss Tuesday morning...
@Drove2u Yeah!! Congrats on passing the glucose test! I just found out today that I passed mine as well. Sadly, my 1st thought was..."should I treat myself to ice cream?" lol You're going to the OB every 2 weeks now, right? I'm guessing it would be just as well to talk about your u/s at that appt. I'm right with you...I feel huge all the sudden. I told MH, I don't know how much bigger I can stand getting.
@uterusdreams Bummer! So sorry you have to endure the long 3 hour test. Hopefully you can just work while there. I remb my OB told me she failed her 1 hour as well, so FX you'll pass this one and will be good to go

@uterusdreams My OB's office doesn't let me on the wifi either...the 3 hour test was such a pain. I ended up having to pee really bad in the middle of the whole thing so I tried to drive over to my parents to use the restroom as someone did a big ICK in the OB's restroom. They live about 10 min from my OB's office....but on that particular morning, my mom was at my sister's watching her kiddos! So I wasted most of my second hour driving to and back from my parents while still having to pee horribly badly AND freaking out that I would miss the 1 hr marker for the blood draw. (I didn't. And luckily passed! Considering I lived on chicken nuggets, brownies, honey mustard and pho for my pregnancy, having GD would have SUCKED.)
My OB's office said that 1 hr casts a really wide net so a bunch of people fail it and then pass the 3 hr -- something like 30% fail the 1 hr but then pass the 3 hr.

Thanks for all the pediatrician feedback @mbradfo2 and @kristimh80!! Our situation has changed a little... see below!
well ladies I guess this is my graduation post! Baby boy was born on sat 1/5 at 10:21pm! Friday started with high blood pressures and we could get them to go down. OB decided to start induction at 8pm with cervidril (sp?) every four hours. We hadn’t made much progress by noon the next day unfortunately. They had me on magnesium again for the seizure risk with pre-e and it makes me feel so out of it and blurry. I was questioning how long we could try to keep inducing or if we should just do a c section since my BP was still high. They then tried to place a folly bulb even tho my cervix was hardly opened and it worked! They got me dilated to 3-4 around 6pm. Broke my water at 7. Epidural around 9. Took a while for the epidural to work and I was still feeling very painful contractions. They check me at 10 pm and I had gone from 4 to 10 cm in about 30 mins! Thankfully the epidural was finally working and I pushed about 10 times and he was out! He weighed 4lb4oz and is doing well in the NICU. Unfortunately since I had to stay ok magnesium for 24 hours after birth, I was in bed rest and couldn’t see him except for a min at the birth. We are still trying to figure out a name and I should get to spend lots of time with him today!

@JamieH2000 I was thinking that you must have had the baby since you'd been quiet for a few days! I remember when I went quiet it was because I was admitted and had baby! 4 lbs 4 oz is an awesome weight --- I was 4 lbs 6 oz when I was born! The cervidil didn't work for me either but my OB was fine with just doing a c-section at that point (and I was completely done after being on the mag). You had more stamina than me! Sounds like baby is doing well in the NICU which is awesome; they'll probably just want him to put on a bit of weight before letting him go
I remember feeling -incredible- after Anne was born; I don't know if it was the relief of the pre-E or just a natural high after babies are born. I felt like a million bucks and there was nothing wrong in the world! Hope you're getting the same high

@JamieH2000 Congrats! 4lbs4oz is an awesome weight! My 36 weeker was 5lb5oz when born, so he is great weight wise. Be prepared to not be able to hold him, and only be able to cup his head and feet. It is scary to see all the tubes hooked up, but you will come to understand what each one does. Please remember to take some time for you and to rest. Lean on the NICU nurses, they are seriously amazing. My baby was transferred to a different hospital from me, to a level 3 NICU. I spent two days in the hospital recovering from my c section with only my H and the NICU nurses telling me how he was. The nurses were my lifeline when I was stuck away from him. Don't be surprised if he takes a little longer than you think to be released, boys take a little longer for some reason. For serious, PM me or ask here if you have NICU questions or what to expect. My boy spent 21 days there. ((Hugs)) the NICU is hard, but you get a front row seat to just how strong babies are. You will get to see your boy do amazing things. Praying that your baby boy's stay is short and uneventful. Congrats again, mama, you are a rockstar!
@wildrainbow I've heard that as well that boys tend to take a bit longer....I wonder why? Are girls just a bit hardier? There must be some biological reason for a difference at such a young age. My hobby is studying medicine and midwifery in the renaissance/middle ages and it was seen there as well -- girls being a bit hardier. Just curious! Something to study perhaps....
Congrats again on the baby and everything wildrainbow says about the NICU nurses being awesome is absolutely true! Lean on them; they'll help you adjust to everything and make this time as easy as possible

@JamieH2000 Congratulations!! I hope you're feeling well and that baby boy is doing great in the NICU. Keep us posted and I can't wait to see some pictures!!
@mbradfo2 I have heard that about the 1 hr vs 3 hr, too - with my 7 year old daughter, I failed the 1 hour and then passed the 3 hour with flying colors, so I'm crossing my fingers this is the same sort of situation! Just in case I'm enjoying some carbs today haha. And it's annoying about the wi-fi, but I figure I can download some shows on my tablet ahead of time and then just check work email from my phone and that should be okay. Maybe I'll even go old-school and bring an actual book. :-D And thanks, @kristimh80 - I'm crossing my fingers, too!
@mbradfo2 My background is in early childhood and I think it has to do with cognitive development. Girls develop faster cognitively than boys. For instance, most boys in NICU meet the weight requirements long before girls, but they still require a lot of other support, whereas most girls just wait to gain the weight. So, I think brain development wise, they are slower. That's my 2 cents so take it for what it is.
@wildrainbow That would make sense to me! I wonder if the slower development of cognitive abilities has a lasting effect -- boys are more often dx'd with ADHD and autism than girls, perhaps related? Just random thoughts I'm having (mostly because I'm trying to work and I'm getting really annoyed with it because someone made a bunch of mistakes in these reports...)

Ugh, hope they're able to keep baby baking a bit longer!
@halips
@tosh24
Looking forward to seeing your little one! Hope all is going smoothly

Back for # 2!
Yep, we squeeze babies in wherever we can in our scheduler.

Congratulations @tosh24!!
aometimes but who knows!

Back for # 2!

Yep, alot of parents will do "meet the doc" interviews but that's sorta a recent trend!

@uterusdreams Bummer! So sorry you have to endure the long 3 hour test. Hopefully you can just work while there. I remb my OB told me she failed her 1 hour as well, so FX you'll pass this one and will be good to go

My OB's office doesn't let me on the wifi either...the 3 hour test was such a pain.

Back for # 2!
I was thinking that you must have had the baby since you'd been quiet for a few days!

I've heard that as well that boys tend to take a bit longer....I wonder why? Are girls just a bit hardier? There must be some biological reason for a difference at such a young age. My hobby is studying medicine and midwifery in the renaissance/middle ages and it was seen there as well -- girls being a bit hardier. Just curious! Something to study perhaps....

That would make sense to me!
