Hello mamas who are trying to stay fit! Because this is typically the time of year when we make goals and resolutions, and they are often fitness related, let’s share! I’m sure this year will be a little different for all of us, so any and all goals toward health are great, no matter how big or small!
How are your current health/fitness goals going?
What health/fitness goals from last year did you set? Did you achieve them?
What are your healthy resolutions this year? Are you setting any fitness goals to help get back in shape after baby?
Re: [Trying to Stay] Fit Mama Monday - NYE edition
My lifestyle is overall pretty healthy - my normal routine is to workout around 3-4 times/week and MH and I eat mostly organic and cook all our meals with the exception of weekends. We both focused hard on our health post-college and have really reaped the benefits. However, once baby arrives I know our lives will be busier and priorities will change, so my goal would be to continue to prioritize my health and wellness once baby arrives - including mental health.
What health/fitness goals from last year did you set? Did you achieve them? I had a friend that ran 1000 miles in 2017. I thought that was a cool goal so I set mine at 800 this year. I ended up logging 961 miles! I ran a total of 8 races this year. Three of which I was able to do while pregnant. I typically only run 1 or 2 races in a year and call it good. So it was a big year for me!
What are your healthy resolutions this year? Are you setting any fitness goals to help get back in shape after baby? I plan to kick butt when physically able. LoL. I am either running or walking a 5k the beginning of May. I have a 200 mile, two day, team relay in August, and I’m registered for a 1/2 marathon in October. I am planning to keep up with training so I can finally run the Disney Princess in February 2020.
How are your current health/fitness goals going? Not so hot, was doing ok last week until a horrendous cold hit me on Friday night. Since Friday I’ve hardly moved... planning to get back on it once I can breath again.
What health/fitness goals from last year did you set? Did you achieve them? Last year we started the year trying for lo #2, so I was trying to make sure I was in prime shape so hopefully pregnancy #2 would be similarly easy to DS. I actually ended up cutting back my running and then stopping completely at the beginning of this pregnancy. Guess I was successful-ish in last years goals?
What are your healthy resolutions this year? Are you setting any fitness goals to help get back in shape after baby? I’m actually trying not to. I will plan to walk as much as we can once she’s here, but am going to try not to put a ton of pressure on myself to get back to “pre-baby” shape, quickly. DH is actually pretty awesome about reminding me to give myself grace when it comes to both the pregnancy weight gain (which I’ve been struggling with) and the weight loss after the fact. So, I’ll certainly continue to try and eat healthy and keep healthy food in the house for my family, but no specific goals.
@novelblessings I’m throughly impressed with all your races! I used to run 5ks somewhat regularly with my dad when I was young, but have only run a handful as an adult. I love the motivation to train they offer, but am not a fan of the crowds!
My current fitness sucks. I didn't really have any goals to start out with though, although overall i knew i wanted to lose weight, before getting pregnant. I

just Nope LOL

my healthy resolutions for this upcoming year are to focus on eating a lot more healthy than i have. I don't eat bad as it is, but i can definitiely get more fruits and veggies in. I have been going back and forth or the vegan/plant based train and i think im getting back on the wagon in 2019 for sure, plus i have a gym membership i have been ignoring and im pretty sure once i have the ok after maternity leave is up, i will be back in the gym regularly. When i had my firstborn i lost weight really quick (being overweight already), so i am hoping to have that luck again this time around to help me jumpstart a better health this year coming up.
I was sick with a nasty cold last week, and I ended up taking 5 days off of exercising. My appetite wasn’t great either, so I wasn’t eating all that well. I am squarely back on track now, but I was feeling like a real slug.

I had sprained my MCL this time last year, so my goal was to get through PT and run my annual marathon in October. This pregnancy got in the way of achieving that goal, but I did manage to run the half marathon instead at 18 weeks pregnant, which was a pretty great substitute.

I pushed myself really hard to get back in shape after my first baby. I wasn’t cleared to exercise until 12 weeks after my c-section, and had to repair my diastasis recti, and still pushed myself with BBG and training for a marathon 10 months after baby. This time around my goal is to give myself more grace to heal and get back in shape in my own time. I don’t anticipate having more kids after this guy, and I want to enjoy all the baby and breastfeeding time without pushing my body so hard. I will probably set some small goals after he is born, but until then my goal is just to keep moving every day until he is born.
My goal for 2018 was to stay active during pregnancy and other than my month of bedrest, I've been pretty good!
For 2019, a lot will depend on whether I have a successful VBAC or another c-section. Ultimately, I'd like to track my macros again and shed some of the body fat I gained this year so I can see abs, but I don't know how realistic that is with breastfeeding. Ideally, I'd be happy just to stay active after the baby as a start to getting back into pre-baby shape.
For 2019, I hope to maintain 4-6 days of exercise per week. And, my annual resolution is to drink more water!
Happy New Year, ladies! We each have so much to look forward to
Otherwise, just remember that doing my best is good enough. This is our first kid so I have no idea what to expect as far as my body and healing and getting into shape post baby, but I don't want to put pressure on myself.
@lalalauren15 I love how you include mental health!
Did I reach the health/fitness goals I had set for the past year? Overall I would say yes, but this one is tricky for me. I started 2018 with my 1st pregnancy which (TW) ended in early Jan with a MMC. That process was really hard for me, so my health/fitness goal for the year became simply to feel better emotionally, mentally and physically and then eventually get healthy and pregnant again. I feel like I did achieve that, and I know that after my loss, being active and returning to a regular fitness routine played a huge role in that, especially in helping me feel emotionally and mentally like myself again.
Resolutions/goals after baby is here: From now until March, I hope to continue with my current 3x/week routine as long as it feels good. Once baby girl arrives, I have a loose goal of starting some very gentle postpartum exercises as soon as I’m able (things like pelvic tilts, Kegels, etc in the early days/weeks as recommended by midwife) and then I hope to just get outside for short walks & fresh air as soon as possible. Once I’m cleared to workout again, I’ll go back to my awesome pre/post natal fitness class and just progress from there. Babies are welcome at class and are often incorporated into the workout, so I feel like that will be a really positive way to start moving & getting stronger.
Once I’m feeling like myself again (and once the warm weather returns) I am super excited to get back to rock climbing, hiking, paddling, and spending quality time outside as a new little family!
I guess I really don’t have very specific goals around postpartum weightloss or fitness. I just want to keep doing the things I love, and feel strong while I do them.
