    • How far along? EDD? 38+0 | Jan 7th
    • How is everyone feeling this week? Uggghhhh I got sick! A whole 9 months of managing to avoid germs and I get a cold now. So mad. I'm going on day 4 and really hope it clears up soon because I do not want to labour feeling like crap or have to worry about passing anything to baby. Otherwise, still all the usual symptoms. So, so, sore.
    • Any upcoming appointments? Hospital on Wednesday to do a pre-induction work up. If my platelet count is fine, I can delay the induction, but if not, it will likely be Friday. Platelets were doing great (for me) hovering around 100 but now with being sick, I'm expecting that they've dropped since that's what typically happens, even with people with normal counts.
    • GTKY: What are you most excited for about meeting baby (other than relief of symptoms)? So excited to find out if this babe is a boy or a girl! Excited to add him or her to our family and see how the kids interact with their new sibling. Looking forward to seeing DH snuggle and dance around the family room with baby as he's done with the other two.

  • @tosh24 Thanks for getting things started! I'm sorry you're sick, and hope you'll recover quickly. It's no fun feeling like crap when you can't take any meds to help!

How far along? EDD? I'll be 33 weeks tomorrow! 2/13 EDD

How is everyone feeling this week? I'm starting to feel huge, and with good reason! We found out last week with a growth scan that baby is measuring about four weeks ahead. I know the estimates can be off, but he's 99th percentile on all measurements and they're estimating that he already weighs around 6 lbs. Yikes! Hoping that his growth slows a bit in the coming weeks, but the doctor thinks I'm pretty much guaranteed at least an 8 lb baby. Otherwise I've been feeling pretty good. The semester is over, so I'm just working on grading and preparing for my January class.

Any upcoming appointments? Physical therapy on Wednesday, but no midwife appointment until 1/9.

GTKY: What are you most excited for about meeting baby (other than relief of symptoms)? I'm just so excited to get to hold him and to see MH hold him, after feeling him wiggle around inside me for so long. It's still hard for us to believe that this is really happening!
  • @tosh24- ughh colds are the worst while
pregnant!! I really hope it goes away soon. Mine was bad for a few days but lingered for over two weeks :( hope yours is shorter!!

@darkstar42- o wow, big baby!! I’m kinda jealous! I want this baby to grow more since he will likely have to come early. Hope your baby will naturally come early if they get so big!

Today I am 31+5. I had my twice per week monitoring and today was the biophysical profile and a growth scan. Baby scored 8/8 which is good at this point since practice breathing can start later. But we saw him doing it so that was great. My blood pressure is still in around 140/90, but it’s been that way for almost two weeks now so at least it’s staying stable. I go back on Thursday for an NST and see the MFM on Monday for another scan and growth scan.
Besides the pre-e, my only real complaint is bad heartburn and poor sleep. But I’ll gladly take it for another 5+weeks to keep baby inside.
I am just excited for baby to be here and hopedillu
safe and sound. It’s jusy gonna be amazing to see my husband with him. He’s not that into other people’s babies bc he’s not comfortable with infants. But he is amazing with toddlers and small children so I know he will be great with our baby once he gets comfortable holding him and taking care of him!

    • How far along? EDD? 32+1, C-section still sheduled for 31/1
    • How is everyone feeling this week? Dragging a cough for the last 3 weeks and it's exhausting. Not to mention I keep pulling different muscles in my belly with the strong coughs. Poor sleep is also contributing to the overall feeling of general blah. My boys are on winter break and having to entertain two preschoolers is a challenge  :D still grateful to spend time with them and watch them grow every day.
    • Any upcoming appointments? US on Wednesday to check the position of the placenta.
    • GTKY: What are you most excited for about meeting baby (other than relief of symptoms)? Having a girl is going to be so different! I can't wait to see what she's like, to get to know her, and it's going to be hilarious seeing her with DH because I just KNOW he's going to be wrapped around her little finger from day one (he practically melted the first time he held the boys). He's such a softie.
  • @JamieH2000 glad you're still stable with your BP! FX your body will keep it like this for at least 5 more weeks!

@darkstar42 holy moly that's a big baby!!! Kudos to you fr every time you get up from the couch!!!

@tosh24 oh no! Being sick sux!! I hope it goes away soon! FX for a good platelets count. Low count is what made me have my boys a little earlier than expected so hopefully yours will hold.
  • @tosh24 I'm so sorry you got sick! Hopefully it passes quickly. Good Luck with your pre-induction work up today!
@darkstar42 Wow, he is a big baby! I'm measuring in the 86% percentile and thought my litte guy was big. Fingers crossed for you momma! Glad you get a little down time now between semesters!
@JamieH2000 so glad your bp is holding steady and baby is doing well on his testing!
@more14 poor you! Btwn the cough, poor sleep and 2 preschoolers, I don't know how you're doing it! Here's hoping the cough clears up soon and your get a little respite!

    • How far along? EDD? 31+5/ Being induced no later than Feb 10.
    • How is everyone feeling this week?  Tired and huge! I've also been waking with a stuffy nose and phlegmy cough for the last week, but it clears up after an hour or so. Any one experiencing something like this? I don't feel sick and it's only first thing in the morning.  But ok otherwise. Normally I'd take the time btwn the holidays off work, but I don't want to waste vacation days, since I will need them when baby gets here. So I'm at the office today and tomorrow with about 5 other people lol
    • Any upcoming appointments? Not until next Thursday (OB/NST)
    • GTKY: What are you most excited for about meeting baby (other than relief of symptoms)? Just finally getting to see him and hold him and watch DH with him. We've been waiting so long, it almost doesn't seem real some days. So for it to finally be real will be amazing!
    • Don't forget about HDBD or PIP your nursery!

@tosh24 thanks for getting it started this week!  I’m totally fine with anyone starting these, I only do it because I didn’t know if anyone else would!

Sorry you’re sick!  I hope your pre-induction appt went/goes well today.

@darkstar42 at what size do they recommend a c-section?  I know someone who recent got induced/had a c-section because baby was getting too big for vaginal delivery but I’m not sure how often that happens.

@JamieH2000 I’m glad you and your BP are hanging there!  FX things continue that way to let baby cook for a few more weeks.

@more14 hopefully your placenta has moved up and you feel better soon.l and can get some rest with the kids home!

@halips glad things are going pretty smoothly!

    AFM...

    • How far along? EDD? 34 weeks + 2 / Feb 4th
    • How is everyone feeling this week? Feeling ok.  Been having lots of Braxton’s Hicks and feeling huge overall.  Lots of reflux at night and generally sleeping very poorly.
    • Any upcoming appointments? I had my weekly appt today but had it with a different OB since mine had surgery all day today and I’m annoyed.  My regular OB last week said he wasn’t going to do the NSTs anymore since he wasn’t getting a good reading and he also said that they’d check baby’s growth this week since the belly was measuring small last week and if it wasn’t any better they’d refer me to the specialist.  Well during my BPP I asked about growth and the tech said they don’t check the growth weekly because there’s not enough of a difference to measure (what?) and that I must have misunderstood him last week.  No, I didn’t.  Then she said I’m probably the most difficult patient she’s had in her 13 years.  So she measured it and it’s still measuring 2 weeks (and now a few days) behind.  I’m not actually that concerned about it but I didn’t appreciate being given a hard time about it when that’s what my doctor told me.  Then I went to the OB who did a NST (Mine must have not updated the notes to not do it) and couldn’t get a reading so she sent me to the hospital. They freaked out a little over the same reasons then a MFM came in and basically said all the same things as the other MFM I’ve seen.  So an additional $200 copay later and I have no different information and my going there was totally unnecessary.
    • GTKY: What are you most excited for about meeting baby (other than relief of symptoms).  Just getting to look at him.  I really hope he’s not as stressful when he’s out, though!!

  • @JamieH2000 Glad your bp is staying steady, and hope all goes well with the NST today! I'm just hoping baby's growth slows a bit so I don't have too giant of a baby to birth!
@more14 That cough sounds like a pain! Sorry you're dealing with that. Getting up from the couch is definitely getting to be a challenge!
@halips I'm having the same issues with congestion. I think it's just one of those fun little pregnancy side effects!
@mayflower513 Sorry for the frustrating experience with the OB and hospital! What a pain to deal with. The main risk with a big baby is shoulder dystocia, and apparently early induction is not recommended, so they won't do that. I'm at a birth center run by an MFM, and he thinks I should still be fine to birth naturally there, so we shall see! Hoping to avoid a c-section if I can.
  • @darkstar42 Glad your doctor doesn't seem overly concerned about baby's size and you can still plan for a vaginal delivery!

@JamieH2000 Glad your BP is staying stable! Great news!

@more14 I hear you on the cough being exhausting. I feel like a zombie from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to bed, and I don't have two preschoolers to care for! Hope you are able to find some time to rest and I hope you shake that cough soon!

@halips prior to getting sick, I had congestion, a bit of phlegm and a sore throat in the morning for about 2 months solid. It's just from all the extra blood and mucous your body is producing. I'd get the worst post-nasal drip that I think settled in my chest as I slept, so I'd cough it up in the morning. It also irritated my throat. It would mainly clear after I was up and moving around for a bit, except the mild nasal congestion would hang around all day.

@mayflower513 Ugh, what a frustrating appointment. I would have been so irritated too! FWIW, I was told the same thing about growth at one of my BPPs - they said they only checked growth every two weeks because doing it any closer together was not as accurate...???

AFM, my appointment went well yesterday. Baby is doing great in there and my blood work came back amazing (for me, prob not by general standards LOL). Platelet count was 105 which I almost fell out of my chair when I heard, especially since I'm sick and expected a drop in numbers. I'm 2 cm dilated and OB did a stretch of the cervix too, to hopefully nudge my body into going into labour on its own. They still scheduled me an induction for tomorrow at 8 AM but I'm going to call today and cancel it. Firstly, because my numbers are great and baby is doing find so I don't think there's a valid medical reason to induce (and I'd rather baby come on its own), and secondly, because I'm still sick as a dog and I can't even fathom having to labour with how exhausted I am and then worry about passing on my sickness to baby once s/he is here. Hope my OB isn't too annoyed since it was tough to squeeze me in for the induction in the first place....

@tosh24 thank you! Guess I'm glad to hear it's normal... So glad to hear your blood work came back good! Hopefully they don't give you a hard time about cancelling the induction. Your body seems to already be starting the process on it's own, and with you being sick they should give you a little time to recover!

@mayflower513 Wow, that other OB sounds rude and so frustrating! It's unfortunate when Dr's in the same office can't communicate the same message and a shame that they put you through so much extra stuff. I hope your next appt is easier!

  • @darkstar42 Thank you.  So glad the size isn't a concern/reason for c-section! @tosh24 and @halips thank you ladies.

I mean I get that babies don't necessarily grow that fast but also, they do have growth spurts so measuring even a few days later COULD show growth if they had a growth spurt right after the growth scan.  Which is what I said to the tech and what made her say I'm her most difficult patient.  From what my doctor said, they'd check it again because if it was the position of the baby causing the measurement to be skewed, doing another growth scan a week later could show a normal measurement if baby was in a position better for measuring.  I don't know if I should be concerned or not at this point.  Last week baby's belly measured 2 weeks behind and this week (exactly 1 week later) it was measuring 2 weeks 3 days behind.  So it's gotten bigger but not by a week.  Baby has been folded in half both times so the tech says it's probably just that but... maybe the growth has truly slowed down?  Wouldn't that warrant trying to find out?  I will wait to see my regular OB next week and see what he says.  A big part of me just wants to refuse any ultrasounds going forward because if it's not telling us anything of value then what's the point besides unnecessary stress... but I also can't do that because then what if something comes up between now and delivery that is missed because I refused a scan.  Also, I'm really debating just asking to schedule a c-section even if baby turns to head down because of the issues they had monitoring the heart rate the other day.  This is something they will possibly (probably) end up deciding to do during labor anyway (and if baby stays breech will definitely be the case) so I just don't know if I'd rather just have it planned so I stress less.  DH is concerned about the recovery of c-section vs vaginal delivery.  I don't know since I've only had vaginal.

  • @mayflower513 They let me cancel. I called L&D yesterday and they got my OB to call me back since he was on-call. As soon as he heard how sick I was he said it was totally reasonable to cancel and that my numbers were good so he wasn't worried. He thought I had a reasonable chance of going into labour on my own soon (I've been cramping and losing my mucous plug since my cervical stretch 2 days ago) but if I don't, I'll see him for another appointment next week and we'll see what my platelets are doing and if I need to re-schedule the induction. Just glad to have today to rest. I went to the walk-in clinic this morning to rule out strep since I'm on day 8 of a sore throat, and they said no strep and no tonsilitis, just a crappy virus. Luckily, I don't have a fever or anything, *just* the throat, sinus congestion, and cough. I told DH I'm setting up a place on the couch today and not moving at all!

  • @tosh24 I was sick at delivery. After delivery I got better really quickly. Being pregnant is suck an immune suppressant, that it's so hard to get over an illness, especially this late. I do hope you feel better soon.
  • @more14- sorry about your cough! Colds are the worst when pregnant and I couldn't imagine having two kids to take care of too! Does mucinex help at all? That is one of the few things they told me I could take.

@halips- hope you are feeling better too! Hopefully its just the end of a cold for you.. mine lasted a good 2.5 weeks so hopefully the congestion will be gone for good soon!

@mayflower513- who does that tech think she is? There is NO way you are the most difficult patient. That is just inappropriate. They told me they do growth scans every 3 weeks... but then I had one monday and now I have another one with the MFM on Monday. will be interesting if/how much growth there is. I think there can be a pretty big margin of error on those. Glad you get to see your regular OB soon and hopefully have better treatment!

@tosh24- so glad they let you cancel! Sounds like hopefully you will go naturally soon and hopefully feel alot better by the time that happens. Keep us posted!

Sorry i have been MIA! With the holidays, I haven't been on much. Then I had a bad headache most of Wed and again Thursday afternoon. They told me at my thursday morning appt that if I had another headache I needed to call, so I did. So of course last night they made me come into L&D for monitoring. My BP was higher, but not severe. They just monitored me and baby and made us stay the night. Luckily everything looked good this morning so we got to go home. I feel a little silly for going in for what turned out to be nothing.. but its hard to know what is serious. I think its only really serious is my BP is over 160/110 and stays there, or I am having lots of visual issues with a headache. I probably won't call again unless those things happen. Its just hard not knowing how this will end really. But thats probably why they just induce at 37 weeks since baby is pretty much full term and complication risk for me just keeps climbing with each week.

  • @wildrainbow thanks for chiming in with your experience! I was kind of wondering if maybe just delivering would be the magic bullet since being sick at 38.5 weeks pregnant is no fun for the immune system. Seems like maybe I shouldn't totally rule it out. I guess I just really worry about passing on my illness to baby. *TW medical distress* When DS was a newborn, he caught a respiratory infection from a family member during the first visit and that ended up being a huge cluster and he had to be re-admitted to the hospital, where he still struggled and then stopped breathing, had a collapsed lung, etc. and we had to be transferred by ambulance to the local children's hospital where he was admitted to the pediatric ICU. All in all it was about a 2 week hospital stay and I must still have some PTSD from it because I can still be sent into a tailspin by hearing an ambulance siren 7 years later. Luckily, he's OK, but he has viral-induced asthma now whenever he gets sick. I have nightmares about it happening again with this baby so I worry about how to care for him/her if I'm sick. But maybe the best way to become "un-sick" is to have the baby!

@JamieH2000 Glad to hear that you're doing OK! I can only imagine how stressful it is to worry about your symptoms all the time and keep track of everything. Don't ever feel silly for going in to be monitored - that's what the doctors and nurses are there for, to keep you and baby healthy. I went in a week or so ago because I hadn't felt baby in a few hours and I felt a little dumb for it, especially when everything was OK, but both the OB and all the nurses said I absolutely did the right thing and to never hesitate to call or come in if I have any concerns, so that made me feel better. I always worry that I'm the "crazy lady" and it's hard to determine if I legitimately need to be worried about something or if I'm just extra anxious because of my history, but I have to remind myself that's it's better to err on the side of caution - who cares if they think I'm nuts LOL!

  • @tosh24 I get it. M, who was born a month early in October, spent 21 days in NICU for respiratory distress. Just remember that baby has your antibodies to help protect him from your illness. Hopefully, tho, you go into labor on your own.
