This is a place for FTMs to ask questions and S+TMs to share the wealth of knowledge they've accumulated on baby products. Each Product Spotlight post will discuss a new category of product to help streamline and make it easier to refer back. This week it's.... Your #1 Must Have Items!

    That’s easy: my Brest friend was seriously my best friend.  I used nothing more often during mat leave, for endless nursing sessions and also my baby would nap on it, and I could seriously stand up and walk around with him on it, with just a hand to keep it level. Magic.  A regular pillow never worked for me.  The wrap around platform aspect and the bump where baby’s head goes are definitely a special kind of simple genius.

    Depending on the model and site, you’ll probably spend somewhere in the $30s for it. Worth every penny.

    crib mattress, mattress protector. I also love  soft light lamp for those night changes, so baby can stay sleepy. changing pad.

    @disneybaby84 what should I be looking for in a mattress protector? I got one waterproof one that is just a flat thing and doesn't cover the whole mattress because you aren't supposed to put it under the baby's head (I did not realize any of this at the time) and it seems woefully inadequate.

    @becks_726 personally I get a mattress protector that’s the same brand as the mattress, just so I know they are made to fit each other.

    I agree with @wrensnest . We had a Very pukey baby and nothing was better. 

    Also a sound machine. Our almost 3 year old still uses it

    Another vote for the cloth diaper prefolds as burp cloths. My first born was a puker and they saved us. 

    We loved the Nose Frida, good swaddles, white noise machine, and a Boppy.

    Dry shampoo.

     Seriously though, our #1 must have was a good soft swaddle. Went with him everywhere as a car seat blanket, tummy time blanket, swaddle for naps, nursing cover, cozy blankie during doctors appts when he had to be naked, we used the big fancy swaddles constantly

    For us it was gripe water. It helped with bedtime and calmed him down. We went through it really quickly. Also highly recommend a swaddle. We transitioned to zippity zips when he was a few months old and would break out, those were a lifesaver since he still startled himself awake.

    Oh yes, I’ll second the Nose Frida! Super weird in concept, but SO effective! Those bulbs were essentially useless as far as I could tell.

    Rock n play, swaddle me swaddles, a nursing pillow on every floor of the house, coconut oil
