Re: 2nd Trimester Check-in week of December 17th

    • How far along? 26 weeks, 2 days
    • How are you feeling this week? Pretty good.
    • Rants/Raves? Rant: I'm getting so nervous/anxious/annoyed with work. We're re-structuring now. My asst is most likely moving to another department leaving me with no asst. I was counting on her to handle things while I'm on leave and now that she won't be here I'm panicking and getting pretty passive/agressive with work, which I need to stop doing. I don't want a temp because they could just mess things up for me if I don't trust them. I won't have time to train either. So I want this specific person. Just getting anxious. Another Rant. As you guys know, we're hosting Christmas Eve. But...my entire kitchen is in shambles with kitchen construction and we only have a few days to get it together. Not just the kitchen but this means three rooms are in shambles because all of our kitchenware is out of cabinets. And we have 35 cabinets in the kitchen. lol. so a lot of stuff.
    •  Rave: I had a call with HR today and found out I get 18 weeks of leave. Last time it was only 12 weeks. Also just finishing up this week and then I'm off for two weeks. Can't wait!
    • Questions?
    • Any upcoming appointments? Not till the new year.
    • GTKY: What are you looking forward to the most this holiday season? Just being with my daughter, visiting and seeing friends and family.

    • How far along? 18+5
    • How are you feeling this week? Feeling okay- just tired.  Still nervous because haven’t felt movement yet but trying to stay positive.
    • Rants/Raves?  Waiting for my cute bump to show up.
    • Questions?
    • Any upcoming appointments? Level II u/s is on the 31st and OB appt is on Jan 2
    • GTKY: What are you looking forward to the most this holiday season?  Looking forward to relaxing- not going anywhere and no one is visiting so going to be pretty low key.
  • @drove2u You have the ideal cute "boy" bump! So jelly!!! I wish I could come help be you assistant! But would be a major fail since we are a week apart lol Your maternity leave is amazing!!! I haven't decided when yet I'll go back and if do I'll be super p/t for awhile if I can help it.

@bpietronicco Don't stress too much over movement. I'm coming up on 26 weeks and just the past couple weeks have I really felt any due to an anterior placenta. Your AS is coming up soon, so that should help ease your mind some :)

@bpietronicco  I agree with @kristimh80 def don't stress over movements. 18 weeks is still kinda early too!

How far along? 25 weeks 4 days
How are you feeling this week? Feeling good. The weather has been nuts, hot and cold, so been a little congested but nothing I can't handle.

Rants/Raves? Rave: Mom is buying my dream stroller / car seat and diaper bag I've wanted. She joked that she may have to take out a 2nd mortgage lol
Rant: I think MH gave me this congested mess I have going on.
Questions? Anyone taking their Glucose test yet? Mine is right after Xmas and have been "trying" to be good, but I fall off the wagon a lot lol
Any upcoming appointments? Nothing til the 28th
GTKY: What are you looking forward to the most this holiday season? Spending time with relatives and having girl time with my SIL's and MIL at the baby shower.

  • Hi ladies!
    • How far along? 25 weeks, 3 days today
    • How are you feeling this week? Still feeling pretty good physically, though my emotions are all over the place some days, so that's fun. I'm just stressing about all we have to do before the baby gets here and while we still have a bit over 3 months I know it will keep going by SO quickly.
    • Rants/Raves? Rave - this is my last week in the office before we have a week & a half off for the holidays, so I'm really excited about that. And I'm looking forward to being home for that long so I can hopefully cross off a lot of our to-do items (get the nursery cleared out/ready, go through some bins of clothes, etc). Rant - I brought in some holiday chocolate to keep in my office for when people come in, but I keep eating it myself. Oops.
    • Questions?
    • Any upcoming appointments? Nothing until January 3!
    • GTKY: What are you looking forward to the most this holiday season? Some time off work, and I'm really looking forward to Christmas day - it's a day we spend with family from morning to night and it's always just really nice.
@Drove2u That stinks about the work stress and your assistant - ugh! I've been trying to organize my leave plan and can't imagine what I would do if the person taking over most of my responsibilities were no longer available.  <3

  • @Drove2u There's a chance! I figure I'll see how it all goes once LO gets here. My mom was a SAHM and I remb loving it as a kid knowing she would be there when I got home or if I ever got sick, etc. So I figure if I can plan to work mainly when my boss is in the office, then it will help just in case least while she's really little.

@uterusdreams Your chocolate sounds yummy! I broke down and bought some truffles last night just to have around so I didn't crave it 24/7.

@Drove2u ugh, work stuff sounds awful. i also get pretty anxious/upset if things aren't in order and you have absolute trust in people you're asking to execute stuff on your behalf.  hope you can get it sorted before you go on leave!

@bpietronicco i'm still on bump watch with you, but still a few weeks behind.  did upgrade to maternity jeans though since they're a bit more forgiving with the blump.

    afm:
How far along?  15+6, June 5
How are you feeling this week?  BLERGH.  nausea is back... been feeling up and down most days. went to bed at 7:30 last night... woke up to dry heaving. :(  this does not bode well for vacation, but hopefully DH is okay with me sleeping in our down time.
Rants/Raves?  none that i can think of
Questions?  quick weight gain... is it a growth spurt?  i'd been managing pretty well, didn't have much if any gain in first trimester, but have been tracking daily and have put on 2-3 lbs in just the last few days.  dunno if it's poor eating or water weight.  feel like i've been eating more to combat nausea.  curious what other ladies' weight gain trends have been around the 16w mark.
Any upcoming appointments?  Thursday for OB check
GTKY: What are you looking forward to the most this holiday season?  no work. i'm so ready for a break.  excited to travel and celebrate christmas, but really... it's about not thinking about work at all and getting some much needed quality time with DH.  we've been go go go all semester and it'll be nice to slow down a bit.

@northbeach3 Sorry you're battling nausea again...hopefully it passes soon for you! As for weight gain, they say average is around a 1lb a week from 2nd trimester on. I'm sure a lot has to do with water retention. That being said, everyone is so differently which how much they gain, so don't get too stressed or worried about it :)

  • @kristimh80 I ate half a pint of ice cream the night before my GT. I don't know what was wrong with me, honestly, and I'd been really good about sugar all the previous week. Anyways I haven't heard back any results which I'm taking as a good sign lol.

@northbeach3 Sorry about your nausea. I've been going up about a lb per week since about 16 weeks - but my OB said not to worry about the weight gain happening evenly - some people have short periods of more rapid weight gain.

  • Thanks ladies for the reassurance. It’s probably bc I’m weighing myself daily. Down a lb today and have ob check tmw. We’ll see what their readings are for this week compared to 12w.

I also have developed a light Linea Nigra from pelvis to belly button! Kinda exciting to see other markers of pregnancy. Speaking of, what’s your belly skin care regimen? Are you doing stuff to minimize stretch marks? When did you start? What do you recommend?

  • @northbeach3 You're the opposite of me. I turn around at the dr. office because I'd rather just not know lol I have oil and belly lotion from Burt's Bee's I use. I admit I'm horrible at doing it daily and using ther doppler reminds me of it.

  • Lol @kristimh80. I hear you. That’s normally me bc I’m already overweight.

I’m just worried about gaining too much. I know I shouldn’t care but that’s the effects of a weight focused society on my brain. :/ I guess I’m also rationalizing that If I don’t have a visible bump, where is the weight going? Lol also silly logic :)

@northbeach3 I’m short & overweight so I completely understand... no bump here yet either but I do feel my lower abdomen hardening a bit. I just look as if I gained an extra few pounds during the holiday - at least to me. others say they can’t even tell and my response I’m fat to start! :) To answer your question - my wt goes to my love handles & face, ohhh and my boobs!!! (Edited) Lol. And I definitely try to avoid the scale - just makes me feel worse.

    • How far along? 17wks today!
    • How are you feeling this week? Slightly better with the fatigue.
    • Rants/Raves? Not feeling rested and waking up 2-3x/night to use the bathroom. I hate it!!! I told MH last night, I’m ready for baby to just be here! And of course, I’ll still be up a few times a night but at least I won’t be shuffling all over to get comfortable.
    • Questions? I’m still early in the second semester - do I really have to sleep on my left side? Even if I’m not showing anything much yet? My right side is so much more comfortable and i need to be on my back occasionally to give my sides relief. So how in the world can I be expected to sleep only on one side?
    • Any upcoming appointments? Ob -Jan 3. Anatomy scan @22wks 1/23 - I’m the only person in this semester w/o knowing gender. :/
    • GTKY: What are you looking forward to the most this holiday season? Being with family... I wish I can also say food but I still have some food aversion.
  • @mrsyng good question about side sleeping! yea, i've been mostly left side sleeping, but occasionally switch to right side or back. it's hard not to since there's no bump keeping me in place :) i'm curious about this answer too!

did you do NIPT genetic testing? that's the only reason we were able to find out the gender so early.

  • @mrsyng my OB and MFM both said that around 20 weeks you should make a habit of being a side sleeper. Your bump will help dictate that too. However, many of us would recommend getting into the habit now, especially if you've been a back and stomach sleeper all along. I usually start the night on my left side but turn to my right after a couple of hours, and then back to my left etc. Pillows and blankets and maternity pillows will be your friend as you get further along. And you may end up even sleeping on the couch or in a recliner like many of us in the 3rd tri. For now, if you aren't having trouble breathing, baby should be just fine too. oh and congrats! :)

  • @northbeach3 no, I didn’t do the NIPT testing. Sometimes I wish I did just for gender but I guess I’ll be patient & wait until 1/23.

@halips thanks! For the most part I am a side sleeper but have neck and upper back issues from sitting all day at work on the computer so I need the relief by laying on my back. I will do my best to be a more consistent side sleeper around 20wks.

@mrsyng I am mostly back sleeper, Iast week I had asked similar question and ladies recommended that I sleep on my left. So from 2 weeks, I am using pillows on right side. Even if I turn in the sleep, ill be sleeping on a slope not flat on my back. Pillows are helping I should say
  • That's a great idea @bkatp! I'm also a back sleeper. Still find myself in the middle of the night on it, even with a pillow behind me but consciously make myself roll over. Least with pillows behind you, you'll still be tilted so helps!

  • Curious. Before babies are born, do you guys know if any IF ladies make private groups on here or FB to keep in touch? My BMB is going to make one so things are more private and not so public for later. I've met so many great girls on here that I'd like to keep in touch with. Didn't know if anyone had experience here with that here or would be interested.

    • How far along?   26 weeks + 1 day
    • How are you feeling this week?  Felt a little emotional this week.  Hormones are on the fritz!  Otherwise physically doing okay.
    • Rants/Raves?  Is anyone having Braxton Hicks contractions?  I noticed them at 22 weeks where my belly gets so tight and then lower back starts spasming. They go away after I rest.  It was a little frightening at first because I didn't know what was happening.  My pregnant friends say that it started in the middle of the second trimester.  Also, can we talk about the leg cramps?!  So awful!!
    • Questions?
    • Any upcoming appointments?  I had an appointment this week and my doctor told me my weight gain has been too high, which ultimately got me down afterwards.  My husband tried to console me but hearing the words come from your doctor, and having her lecture you on "walking more", "intuitive eating", etc, when you're already physically active, just sucks.  Trying not to be so hard on myself.
    • GTKY: What are you looking forward to the most this holiday season?  Spending time with loved ones :)
  • @bpietronicco I didn't feel movement until 21 + 2 (due to my anterior placenta).  You will feel baby soon enough :)
@northbeach3 My linea nigra showed up early, in my first trimester.  I've been using a combination of Bio Oil and Aveda Beautifying Oil.

    *lurking from 3rd tri*

@bebesparrow Yes, those sound like BH and they are totally normal (as long as you are not getting more than a handful an hour and they're not accompanied by pain...discomfort, yes, but they shouldn't be painful like a real contraction). The frequency and strength of the BH will increase as you get closer to your EDD. BH actually start around 7 weeks pregnant but most FTMs don't feel them until second or third tri (I started feeling them at 12 weeks this time around). As for the leg cramps, try taking a magnesium supplement before bed. RDI for pregnancy is 350 mg/day so make sure to look at what you're getting through your prenatal. My naturopath has had me on magnesium supplements the whole time and I only get killer charlie horses if I forget to take them (and they also have the added benefit of keeping you regular and helping you sleep!). As for the weight gain, as long as you are not sitting around eating fast food and bon bons all day with zero activity, don't let the doctor get you down. Trust that your body knows what it needs and is gaining accordingly. With my first, I gained 47 pounds (I started out underweight because I have a GI disorder); with my second, I gained 28 pounds (and my eating/activity habits were fairly comparable with my first); and this time around I've already gained 49 pounds and I even started out heavier than the other two times and am more limited in my diet and move around way more. Every woman is different and even every pregnancy is different. As long as you are getting proper nutrition and are being as active as your body is comfortable being, don't sweat it. My OB has never once mentioned my weight to me in any pregnancy.

  • @bebesparrow So sorry you're having a rough time dealing with your OB. Like was just said, I wouldn't worry too much, as long as you know you're already active and eating well. Everyone's weight gain is so different and idk that I'd put too much emphasis on it as long as you're taking care of yourself. I think sometimes drs get caught up on their "medical charts" and the average for everyone which isn't fair b/c everyone is so different!

  • Hi Ladies! I'm lurking from the first trimester board. I'm looking forward to joining you next week. I have a question I could use some advice with....

my son was born at 36w6d back in 2016 weighing 6pounds 10 ounces and perfectly healthy. B/c he was technically preterm (1 day short), my ob mentioned yesterday that she wants me to consider Makena shots of progesterone once a week for the remainder of the pregnancy. Clearly I'm not opposed to giving myself shots since I've been doing POI up through this last week but when I was reading the packet of info, some of the risks include higher chance of: miscarriage, stillborn birth, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, low amniotic fluid among other things. I'm just not sure these risks outweigh the benefit for me personally. I'm not entirely comfortable with those risks.

Have any of you gone through this? I'd really appreciate your thoughts!.
    Me: 33 (no known issues)
DH: 33 (lower motility; 0 morphology)

    IVF round 1 January 2016 (w/ ICSI)
    ER: February 17, 2016; 15 eggs retrieved, 14 mature, 11 fertilized
Day 5 Blastocysts: 8 sent for PGS - 5 Normal
    FET date: April 12, 2016 - DS born Dec 7, 2016
    IVF round 2: FET : Oct 4 - 1st Beta 188!

  • @bebesparrow Sorry you’re having the deal with the weight talk with your OB. Like previously mentioned don’t stress over it too much. Yes, definitely easier said than done but I seriously hate all medical professionals who uses weight as the main issue for any medical condition/problem. Like serious, yes weight can be a factor but it’s not the cause. Maybe the next time you see your ob you can even talk to him/her about not always addressing your weight gain; especially, if baby and you are doing well & healthy! Feel better, no one needs to feel like crap about weight gain especially while being pregnant!
  • @griffin5413 I don't have any experience with that, but considering your son was born 1 day shy of being full term, I'm not sure I'd be on board with the shots. The side effects alone wouldn't set well with me. If progesterone is an issue, I'd ask if could continue PIO or oral meds in lieu of that.
