Re: Week 1 Check-In w/o 12/18

  • Due date: 4.2

Any appointments? Questions? Tomorrow woohoo! Does anyone else have acne on their stomach? Also, when the STMs rave about the nose frieda, are they talking about the one that has a filter and you suck on the other end?

Rants/Raves? My baby is feeling heavier and the length I can comfortably walk is getting shorter and shorter. I can hardly believe the third trimester is so close!

How are you feeling? Achey but refusing to buy more supportive bras. I bought bras for $5 each in the first trimester and I'm feeling that value now. But I want to hold out because I think once my milk comes in, my size will change again, and I for sure plan on getting several nursing bras. I just don't want to spend the money right now.

GTKY: What is the best book you read in 2018?

"A Woman's Wisdom" by Lydia Brownback

  • @mighty_montgomery yes the nose freida is exactly what you describe. It is probably one of the best baby products out there, definitely get/register for it. Buy extra filters. That books looks good, I'll have to add it to my list.

    Due date: 4/5

Any appointments? Questions? Glucose test scheduled in two weeks.

Rants/Raves? I'm ready for next week after Christmas so I can just relax for a minute. I love Christmas but I don't really like being pregnant during Christmas.

How are you feeling? I'm definitely tired/achey/heavy in my stomach. Sleeping or being comfortable is not much of thing for me anymore.

GTKY: What is the best book you read and/or tv show you watched in 2018? Two books that stood out this year was The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison and Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. I feel like I haven't watched much TV, I need to catch up with This Is Us.

  • Due date: 4/28

Any appointments? Tomorrow for formal results from anatomy scan and prenatal.

Rants/Raves? Finally have some amount of energy and able to get stuff done!!!

Wish I had gotten more exercise in last week and not off to the best start this week... try again tomorrow....

How are you feeling? Good, can’t complain, a bit achy but it resolves with stretching/foam rolling and rest.

GTKY: What is the best book you read and/or tv show you watched in 2018? Haven’t read anything new have re-read the demon cycle by Peter V Brett. It’s a really good fantasy series!

    Any appointments? Questions? More shots.

Rants/Raves? I hate that the progesterone shot always makes me feel nauseous. I can’t even figure out why - there’s no reason I can discern that any shot into my butt would affect me 10 min later. Yet every week, I sit in my car battling the desire to throw up.

Also grumpy that my OB office is closed Sat/Sun/Tue/Wed for Christmas (open Mom/Christmas Eve when any normal person would be traveling), since it totally messes up my shot schedule. Current plan is to have my MIL, a former RN, administer the shot.

Rave: DH and I let DD stay up tonight and we had a dance party in the living room to pop music from the 1990s/2000s.

How are you feeling? Exhausted. Is it acceptable to nap with DD every afternoon? Also, heartburn is making a daily appearance and I can’t figure out what snacks are triggers and what will help. Christmas cookies are probably not helpful.

GTKY: What is the best book you read and/or tv show you watched in 2018? I’ve been working my way through Call the Midwife on Netflix and it’s excellent. My book reading has taken a big hit this year...I’m catching up on my stack of magazines though. Yankee has a lot of quality content.

@mighty_montgomery I feel you on the bra front. I’ve got one that fits well right now and I need to invest in some nursing bras. I’ve  avoided doing so for, um, 19 months so far because my insurance sent some (ill-fitting) ones along with my pump for DD but they was horribly unsupportive and I got rashes from underboob resting on chest with a layer of milk-soaked bra between. Thank goodness DD only nurses in bed now, and my boobs are not exploding. Pretty sure bras that fit well will be $50-70 each, though, and I’m going to have to plan the outing at a time when DD can hang with DH for a few hours.

  • @lyse01 yes, yes it is acceptable to nap anytime your kid naps. While you’re pregnant for sure, but I wouldn’t judge you for it if you weren’t. Haha.
  • @mighty_montgomery I have what looks like small acne at the top of my bump...it's weird lol

    Due date: 4/7

Any appointments? Questions? Had one yesterday, everything is for the most part great. 28 week/glucose test in January  :#

Rants/Raves? I'm scared I'm gaining too much weight...especially with the holidays coming up really quick, I'm trying to control my sugar intake and it's getting harder

How are you feeling? Somewhat stressed out. There's this requirement for my program that I have to fulfill that my professors are pressuring me to do in early January after the break, meaning I'll have to work when I'm supposed to be enjoying my holiday :(

GTKY: What is the best book you read and/or tv show you watched in 2018? I really got into Black Mirror. For book, I started reading The Why Axis, which is a nerdy book for experimental economists

  • @aggie0812 I hear ya. I'm up 20lbs since I became pregnant. 😦 Currently waiting to get my blood drawn after glucose test (1hr). 🤞🤞
  • Due date: April 2

Any appointments? Questions? Have my glucose test appt this afternoon! Fingers crossed...

Rants/Raves? Rant: I am doing less travel than usual this holiday season, and thought I would feel like I had so much time, but instead I am finding the extra time is getting filled in with a lot more time spent thinking about and doing christmas shopping... not as relaxing as I had hoped!

Rave: had a lot of fun decorating our house, v glad to be done with work for two weeks starting on Friday! Also, I found my long lost fit bit this week... it was in a small pocket in a bag for the past 5 months! As a result I have been very goal oriented around hitting my steps goal... actually choosing to walk the dog instead of letting my husband do it, and choosing to walk places instead of drive.

How are you feeling? Pretty good... started waking up again in the middle of the night to pee and then staying awake, so pretty tired as a result. Having difficulty focusing at work... just looking forward to having a break!

GTKY: What is the best book you read and/or tv show you watched in 2018? I'm in the middle of "The Spirit Catches you and You Fall Down" by Anne Fadiman, which is apparently a classic non fiction book about cultural differences and medicine and am so fascinated.... I really enjoyed the Call the Midwife series too! @lyse01 Read the book trilogy this year and found it a good way to squeeze in reading since they are mostly short vignettes.

  • @laurainoakland I don't know why I didn't realize Call the Midwife was a book when it literally says on every opening credit it's from Jennifer Worth's memoirs.  I think I'll add that to my 2019 reading list!
  • Update: everything looks good with my daughter. Her growth is good, she measured in the 18th percentile for head circumference (they were concerned about it last month), and the doctor said her weight percentile is in the 20s at 1lb 10oz. My husband and I are small, we're both 5'2", and our mothers are also shorter than us; we would not be disappointed with a small baby! Fingers crossed... lol My doctor also said that they will let the pregnancy continue until 42 weeks. She said they will want to induce in the 41st week. While it's nice to have a no-later-than date (April 16th), I hope my daughter comes before then!

Story time: I remember being single and shopping for someone else's baby shower. I had seen the nose frieda in store and thought to myself how disgusting it is and that I would never get one. And now it's on my baby registry! If it works, I'll try it. I hate being congested and don't want that for my child. It's nice to have STMs knowledge on what works and what's worthwhile having.
