Congratulations! He's such a great size for 29 weeks! I'm a mom of a former 30 weeker. The NICU can be quite the emotional roller coaster. I will pray for an uneventful NICU stay. I'm in a facebook group called Preemie Moms. If you're on FB, it's a great support group if you want to join!

Congratulations on your little boy! Wow, 4lbs at 29 weeks - I'm sure he is absolutely tiny but that does seem like a good size for his gestation. He was trying to fatten up in there so he could come out early I hope he has a very uneventful NICU stay. Don't forget to take care of yourself, mama! Will keep you and baby boy Bloom in my thoughts!

I had my daughter at 29w4d because she stopped growing. She was 1lb14oz and is now almost 4! Happy healthy girl. Prayers and hugs for you mama. NICU stays are tough but you are a good length along and it gets better every single day! Good luck. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I just made my appearance in the announcement thread, but thought I'd come back to update the nicu thread. My little guy has had a couple good days in a row. He's down to 3.3 lbs (loses initially just like term babies but then starts to gain again) but yesterday he was up 20 grams. He's getting more of his feeds from my milk, not just donor milk. He tolerates his feeds well, poops his diapers (only mothering a newborn in the early days makes one so happy to get pooped on while changing a diaper!), he has a little issue with his kidneys but his dr is hopeful he'll grow out of it. Also a small issue with his brain being a bit too smooth for his gestational age, but again, wait and see if he grows out of it. His breathing has been great. He's completely off any oxygen or help. We're hopeful to see that. Again while he had a lot of scary tests in the first days, every time we get a "wait and see" response, we take that as a win. Not bad news, he just needs time to grow. I will try and update as I can, but hopefully we are just in a waiting for the grass to grow period. My new full time job of pumping has me pretty occupied. I get impatient with waiting for a full milk supply but I try try to remind myself to take it easy, take care of myself, too, which includes rest. Thanks for listening ladies.
@Lbloom It's incredible that he needs no oxygen support as a 29 weeker! My 34 weeker was on CPAP for 5 days. The waiting game must be really tough. I've also found in my own experience that neonatologists tend to talk a lot about the worst case scenario, which can be super stressful.
Hoping you can rest and take care of yourself. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Thinking of you guys often!

Update** So we found a cause for my excessively high fluid. Our preliminary genetics test came back showing that I have a rare gene mutation that causes a kidney disorder. It's called Bartter's Syndrome and I have passed it onto my son. This is all news to me but now I know that (having probably gotten it from one of my parents) as a carrier, I had a 50% chance of it being passed to each of my kids. DS has it and I suspect DD2 may have it as well. I had high fluid with her as well but not nearly as bad. Turns out when it presents itself in utero, one of the symptoms is high fluid and with male children it presents itself worse than with girls. Symptoms of this disorder are excessive urination and "salt wasting" where your kidneys just gets rid of more salt/magnesium/calcium than its supposed to. It's an electrolyte imbalance. I have been pretty asymptomatic my whole life, and when present in utero, it usually resolves itself within the first 6 weeks of life to where most people wouldn't know they have it. Except now that I know I'm a carrier and some of my kids are, they can pass it on to their kids. It's a 50/50 chance of passing it on. The main trouble is when my kids want to start families of their own, they need to be aware of the problems it can cause in pregnancy (high fluid, preterm birth) if it is passed down. It can be very dangerous in pregnancy, obviously if I had not been in the hospital when my water broke, who knows what kind of horrible outcomes we could have had. This was my worst pregnancy and I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone, and knowing this, I feel a bit sad that my kids or their future spouse could go through this. However, who knows what sort of advances in obstetrics and genetics will be around 20 some years in the future. So while it's not great, it's also not the worst and I am relieved to at least have some answers.
I dislike being such a "special snowflake". Earlier in the year (before I was pregnant) I had recurring UTI'S which I've only had a few in my life to that point. After a CT scan it was discovered I also have a "horse shoe" shaped kidney. I've had it since about week 7 of life in the womb. Instead of two separate ones, I have two that are fused together in the middle around my spine. It's weird to find out all these unique things about your physiology 36 years down the road.
On a side note, my little super man is doing really well. He is almost back up to his birth weight (today he is 3lbs 11oz, just 2 more oz to go!), he is back on oxygen but that's only because he was just having to work so hard to breathe on his own. The Dr's want to give him a break so he can concentrate on growing. He wasnt able to fill his lungs fully anyway. He's still so little so this doesn't concern us. He will be 31 weeks on Friday. All of his feeds are mama's milk. Our handsome little man with his head full of hair is such a strong little fighter!
@Lbloom that’s interesting that they were able to figure all that out! And while it’s sad to think you might be passing down a potentially difficult pregnancy, at least they will have the knowledge of your experience to go with it. I’m glad to hear that Sean is doing so well and good for you, that’s gotta be a lot of pumping!

Like Meggyme said, while it’s hard knowing your children could have similarly difficult pregnancies, at least they’ll know in advance what issues they may face and hopefully medicine will have advanced enough to help offset some of the potential complications. Keeping you guys in my prayers!
@meggyme you said it! 2-3 hours around the clock. It's a full time job and add in trying to manage it all around his care schedule, finding time to eat, driving to and from home every day to be with my other kids. I'm barely keeping up!
@Lbloom It’s nice that you have some answers to your pregnancy challenges. And you’re right, who knows how far OB will come along years from now. So happy to hear your LO is doing so well.
I found this on Etsy a few weeks back and it made me laugh. No, he's not ready to bust free of this place yet, but he does weigh a whooping 5lbs 12 oz today. Growing is not his problem!
