How far along? EDD? 32 weeks today!  Due Feb 4th.
How is everyone feeling this week? Feeling ok.  My parents came over to make cookies and have dinner last night so I was standing for probably 5 hours straight and I am paying for it.  So sore.  Also just overall uncomfortable at night.  If I wake up at all I'm up for 2 hours.
Any upcoming appointments? Weekly BPP/NST/Doppler appt tomorrow.
GTKY: Where are you on name decisions?  We are doing Logan Anthony.  We had a list and our 3 year old has been calling the baby Logan ever since we read the list to him so he kind of decided for us.

    • How far along? 30+1, C-section scheduled for 1/31
    • How is everyone feeling this week?  Sick. I've been battling a cold since Wednesday and I just want it to be over.
    • Any upcoming appointments? Biweekly OB on Wednesday and yearly Endo on Thursday. I'm expecting both to be boring with nothing to report.
    • GTKY: Where are you on name decisions?  We have a list but probably won't choose before the actual day. That's what happened with the boys so history will most likely repeat itself.
    • Don't forget about HDBD or PIP your nursery!

  • How far along? EDD? 36+0 | 1/7

How is everyone feeling this week? Tired, swollen, sore, tired, can't breathe through my nose. Did I say tired?

Any upcoming appointments? Acupuncture today and GP, OB, chiro, and massage all on Thursday. Wednesday is my last day of work (YEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!). At my last appointment I found out my OB wants to induce on December 28th but I'm not sure I fully understand why and I didn't get a chance to ask at my last appointment, so I will talk to him about that on Thursday (I think it's a combo of my low PlGF and low platelets).

    GTKY:
Where are you on name decisions? Team Green here so it's been a battle. Girl name we just agreed on last week which is Josephine. Boy names we have a list with the top 3 being Michael, Maxwell, and Charles which we'll likely end up going to the hospital with and deciding once baby is born if he's a boy.

  • @mayflower513- I love Logan Anthony! And take it easy girl. No more standing so long!

@more14- sorry about your cold! I had a brutish one this weekend and not being able to take meds sucks!

@tosh24- sorry you are feeling so rough! Hoping for a smoother 3 more weeks before inductions!

forgive my formatting here- it’s ao hard on my phone.

i am 29+5 and currently in labor and delivery. Blood pressure was not good this morning, so got sent here. Still had high blood pressure, so they moved forward with the steroid shot in case baby has to come early. They are keeping me
over night since we are doing 12 hours of magnesium in case the pre-e develops worse. The first high dose was super rough but now I’m feeling some better. Sounds like the MFM will keep me here a few days and I will only get to go home if we can my blood reallt stable. Not looking foreword to potentially weeks in the hospital but I will take it oVer delivering this baby anytime soon!

Thinking of you! I can't imagine been in your shoes at 29 weeks and change; it was bad enough at 35! Hope they can stabilize your blood pressure and just keep monitoring you for another few weeks at least.

Good luck on the mag drip; I remember it being pretty crappy but I was also dealing with the induction meds too so I don't know how much to attribute to either.

  • @JamieH2000
Labetalol or something like that was the medicine that worked for my bp finally -- in the hospital of course. But the MFM said the bp meds just mask the symptoms and don't cure things, so he still wanted a bunch of other tests and monitoring. But at least your bp is down so that's something!!! I was so happy when they finally got my bp to stabilize and be normal.  And no, the mag is NO FUN!!! I hope you were able to get some rest.

I found the monitoring of baby to be comforting though; at least I was there and everything would be handled if something were to happen. It's funny how the first thing we think about when we're going through this stuff is not how we'll feel but how baby is! That was always the first thing the nurses assured me of -- the baby is doing great and absolutely fine. It also showed my husband how active the little one was! He could now hear the kicks and movements on the monitors rather than just hearing me talk about them. He was surprised at the strength of them!

I hope your husband has brought you all sorts of books and things to keep you occupied; I also dragged out the old ipad for some games while I was stuck in the hospital. I know the time can sometimes seem to drag.  Kindle was amazing and of course, there's daytime tv >. >  Can you get netflix or anything like that? I know my hospital didn't allow the streaming >.<

  • @mayflower513 good luck with your appts this week! Logan Anthony is such a cute name!
@tosh24 acupuncture, chiro and massage all sound wonderful! Hopefully some of that helps with the soreness! and YAY for tomorrow being your last day of work!!
@more14 i hope your cold passes quickly! Good luck with your appts this week!
@JamieH2000 oh no, I'm so sorry you are experiencing this! I hope the meds help and you get to go home, even bed rest at home is better than the hospital for so long! You seem to be handling it all really well, and liek you said if you can go through IF for so long, a few weeks of rough now is nothing! Sending you lots of love and luck!
Were you able to be at your shower on Sunday? I hope you were and had a great time!
    • How far along? EDD? 29w4d, Feb 22, but inducing somewhere btwn Feb 3-10
    • How is everyone feeling this week? Good! This may sound silly, but my hips aching and acid reflux are so minor in the issues I've had before that I don't put as much weight in their annoyance. And because of all the issues we've had in the past 5+ years, I'm still in awe that this has been a near perfect pregnancy so far. It's like I'm sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop. I wish I could just move past that and enjoy it 100%...
    • Any upcoming appointments? Had my 30wk MFM appt yesterday. Baby is in the 86th percentile for growth, so big but not too big Dr. says. He's still measuring 1.5 weeks ahead. He was super active, has huge feet (it's a family trait on my side lol) and has a lot of hair apparently!
    • GTKY: Where are you on name decisions?  We know Jeffrey will be part of his name somehow (it's my husband, dad, and brother's name) DH wants it to be his first name, but I'm not sold on that. I like the name Everett, which DH is ok with for a middle name but not first name. We were also considering using my grandpa's name, John, somehow. So really we have nothing yet!
    • Don't forget about HDBD or PIP your nursery!

  • @mbradfo- that is the same drug they put me on! They only gave me one pill and have been holding off to see if stays lower naturally. They want me to be more up and walking to see if it rises and i need more meds before I can go.  Baby was moving allll night, so I think he was sleeping today. I didn't feel him for a few hours so they hooked up the monitors again. The HB looked good and i felt a few small movements, so i think its fine, but its so nice when the movement is strong and consistent. My husband did pick up some books and my ipad, I have also been keeping up on work so I don't have to take leave right now. So just hoping things stay good and I can go home tomorrow.

@halips- My shower was very nice on Sunday. I am SO glad I didn't get admitted on Friday and that held off until Monday. It was a great day with family and friends and having my sister be pregnant with me. I got a few nicer pics in my white lacy dress with the cold frosty weather, so at least i have some unofficial maternity pics if I go soon. So happy your pregnancy is going smooth and he is growing SO good. I wish I was measuring more ahead (it was only 2 days on friday). But maybe with the steroids he will get a little boost :)

@mayflower513- swelling has been better and I actually lost some weight since the inital rapid gain and swelling. Thats why I was so surprised to see the high BP numbers on Monday. They are STILL waiting for my 24 hour urine test, but they said the protein level won't change the plan at this point. Lots of monitoring and doing what we can to get baby ready and keep BP under control. They won't let me go back 37 weeks (1/30) so I will likely be pretty close to you!

Hoping you can go home today and just take it easy until it's time for the little one to arrive! That would have been the plan for me as well, but I was so close that the doctor just didn't feel comfortable risking that things would get worse between monitoring sessions so close to term. I had started to have some abnormal lab values too, but I had been dealing with higher BP than normal since 32 weeks (I think? I can't remember. My doctor put me on a medicine around 32 weeks to try to keep it stable.).I was 35 weeks and some days when I admitted with suspected pre-E -- I had no protein in urine or swelling prior to that week, actually, so I lucked out. Whatever happens, your doctors are doing what's best for you and your little guy!

  • @jamieh2000 I'm so sorry to read about what you're going through! It sounds like you have a great team monitoring you and making sure both you and your little one are safe. I delivered at 32 weeks and some change and Abigail had no complications (except being small) so hopefully they'll be able to keep your little boy cooking a few more weeks at least!!

  • @mayflower513 Love the name choice! I'm glad all of the tests went well this week. Hopefully they can reduce the frequency. That's a big chunk of your time each week!
@more14 Sorry you're dealing with a cold! That's no fun.
@tosh24 That's a marathon of appointments tomorrow! Hope your last day of work is wrapping up well and you get some time to relax and maybe feel a bit less tired!
@JamieH2000 Wow, sorry that you're going through all of that! I'm glad that they were able to get your BP down, so here's hoping your LO gets to stay inside a bit longer!
@halips I hear you on the awe that things are going well! I've felt the same way. Dealing with IF can make it hard to believe good news.
@Ilky @DecemberDoll27 Congratulations! What beautiful babies!
    -----------

How far along? EDD? 31 weeks today! EDD is 2/13

How is everyone feeling this week? I have a mild cold this week, which is annoying but not a big deal. Baby has been moving around a LOT lately, which I'm loving. I find it so reassuring! Sleep is definitely getting less comfortable. I'm now getting some hip and rib pain if I lay on one side for too long. Off to Target to get a body pillow after work today, I think.

Any upcoming appointments? Midwife appointment on Friday, and next week we'll have a prenatal appointment with our doula.

GTKY: Where are you on name decisions? We have a short list of about five names, but I don't think we'll pick one until he arrives. Right now our challenge is figuring out middle names!
  • @ilky- congrats!! Baby is so beautiful! Glad you are home and hope things keep going good!

@mbradfo2- Unfortunately my 24 hour urine test had some higher protein in it, so not sure how long we will make it here, but really really hoping for at least 2019, which would be 33 weeks. The longest will be 37 weeks, but they said probably earlier and to keep my bags packed :( Just hoping for as little NICU time as possible!

@mtpbadger- I had forgotten you went so early! Was it just pre-term labor? The good outcome stories are so encouraging so thank you for sharing! How long was she in the NICU?

@halips- thank you girl, I did get home this afternoon!

@decemberdoll27- Congrats to you as well!! Sorry your induction failed. I have heard that can happen and it makes me nervous! Part of me just wants to go straight to a CS if we have to go earlier, since I know my body wont be ready early. Hope your recovery is going good and you can get home on Friday!!

@darkstar42- movement is the best! Hoping for smooth appointments on Friday!

AFM- well I am home now since my BP was stable yesterday and today. It did get back up to the 130s/80s this morning, so I am on meds 3 times per day. I am supposed to monitor my BP at home twice per day. I know go in every monday for a biophysical profile scan and meet with the OB and on THursdays I will have an NST scan. Glad we are watching it all closely, but hard to go to each appointment not sure if I am going home if things look good. I really want to make it through Christmas in 2 weeks and then next make it to 2019 (33 weeks). Each week on top of that is just gravy. I won't go past 37 weeks (1/30), so will officially be done with work on 1/16 or earlier. Talking to HR tomorrow about what happens if I go early or need to be on bedrest. Thanks for all the love and support ladies- reading all the messages in the hospital was very uplifting!

    @JamieH2000
Good to hear that you made it home! I think if they felt comfortable enough to discharge you under monitoring, you should make it at least another few weeks! Just take it easy, try not to stress about it -- baby is doing well now and everything will be based on what's best for the two of you. If you can make it to 35 weeks, you might not even need NICU time! But as @mtpbadger pointed out, NICU not the end of the world, just another step in the journey. Pre-35 weeks, they will likely have some mandatory NICU time but every hospital is a little different. As you say, focus on little goals -- getting through Christmas, then 2019! I'm guessing they pumped you up with the steroid shots already?

Personally, I was pretty sure I was going to end up with a c-section when they said she was going to come early and they were going to induce labor, but I gave it a shot just to keep everyone happy and to not look like a total pushover >. >  Honestly, my c section recovery was a breeze and a million times easier than my failed induction but I was also on the mag drip while they were trying to induce soooooo  (fun as you might imagine).

And do pack a bag. You have no idea the ugly mismatched stuff my husband brought for me to wear in the hospital and wear home. (Somehow my UV top from scuba made it into the bag?!!)

  • @jamieh2000 she was in the nicu for 18 days and home a month before her due date. I won’t lie, it was tough leaving the hospital without her, and hope you make it far enough that your little one won’t need any nicu time, but it’s survivable. Yup, my water just broke early and my body went into labor. I tested positive for group strep b so they think i May have had an infection in my uterus and my body knew the baby would be safer outside (at least it did something right!). If you go early, you’ll automatically get antibiotics for it if you haven’t been tested yet and so will baby

Glad you are home and taking it easy! I agree with @mbradfo2 pack a bag!! DH forgot pants and shoes and I ended up wearing his (mine had amniotic fluid all over them...ewww)
  • @JamieH2000 I'm glad you're home and they are monitoring you closely. I hope you can make it a few more weeks. I had two high risk pregnancies. My first was due to ICP and Pre-E. Baby was born at 35 weeks and we did not need NICU time. My second was due to ICP and baby was born at 36 weeks. He needed NICU time, but that was due to major birth trauma.
Like the other ladies said, keep a bag packed. I kept everything I needed packed in my car and put in what I used daily (I.e. phone charger, pillow, etc.). It seems daunting with all the monitoring, but it becomes commonplace and you will come to appreciate it. It is a little scary not knowing when baby will be born. With my first he was almost taken at 27 weeks, I had preterm labor at 31 weeks, and he was born at 35 weeks. With my second, I had a few episodes of preterm labor, and he was born at 36 weeks. He spent time in the NICU due to birth trauma. I had steroid shots with both.
  • @JamieH2000 So glad you're home! Keeping my fingers crossed that things remain stable and baby can keep on cooking. <3
  • @mbradfo2- Yup- got my 2 steroid shots this week! And also had the pleasure of the magnesium! The first super high dose was miserable for an hour, but then I tolerated the lower dose drip pretty good for the next 12 hours. That is funny about your husband packing you stuff! My husband had to run home and get me stuff, but i was pretty specific and it was ok this time. Defintiely packing a bag this weekend tho!

@mtpbadger- I know if we have to do the NICU, it will be ok, but not fun of course. More worried about long term complications, but Abigail is right on track right?! Good to know about the strep B test too!

@wildrainbow- thanks for sharing! What a rough 3rd tri for both of yours, but it sounds like it turned out ok! Just kinda bummed I can't enjoy these last 7-10 weeks just nesting and enjoying it. But in the big picture, its just more important to keep us both healthy. If our baby has to come early, part of me just wants a C section to get him out with the least trauma as possible. • @Jamieh2000 she is right on track with all her milestones and even ahead from what we expected! She's just still small for her age, but she might jsut be a petite little girl. Her ped said that they go by their adjusted age vs actual age for milestones and brain development. So even though Abigail is 7 months, she can be up to 2 months behind for all her development (those of a 5 month old) with no concern. All the dr's have said that by 2 years of age most preemies catch up.

Let me know if you have any other questions or things you want to know about NICU life/preemie. One thing that I was probably most thrown by was pumping/breastfeeding. I'm not sure if you were planning on breastfeeding, but it can look a little different with a preemie, depending on how early they are. I ended up having to exclusively pump for the first 3 months b/c she was too little to have a good latch. Most hospitals will let you rent a hospital grade pump if that's the case, definitely take advantage!
  • While you all are mentioning packing hospital bags... what do you pack for baby? I have gotten a ton of feedback on what to pack for mom/dad but nothing on what to bring with for the little one.

  • @JamieH2000 piggybacking on @mtpbadger bfing/pumping for a preemie is a lot different. Even late preterm babes have a hard time. Ds2 spent 21 days in the NICU, let go just one week before his due date. Having a preemie is different, but it's not awful. I hope you get some time to prepare. Mostly, I hope your sweet babe gets to bake a little longer.
  • @halips
For baby, all you really need to bring is a going-home outfit (and maybe one or two of the swaddles you want to try). They'll give you everything else you need - blankets, bottles with formula if formula feeding, baby care supplies. Also, take home anything they give you permission to - for yourself and baby!!! You'll likely get a bassinet with a cabinet underneath it stocked with diapers, wipes, lotions, suction bulbs, thermometer, etc. At my hospital, we were free to take anything we wanted home. We used hospital blankets at home on and off for swaddling and took home the thermometer and other little baby items  like the suction bulb-- we still use that thermometer. For yourself, the little mesh undies they give you are great for those first few days so I took some extras home.

  • @halips You'll want to check with your hospital. My hospital only gives you the first diaper for baby and the first "diaper" for you (lol) and you are responsible for providing everything else. They do give blankets to swaddle and a hat, but that's it. We didn't get to take anything home but the peri bottle.

  • @mtpbadger- so glad she is doing well and right on track! I am planning to breastfeed but realize it will be mostly pumping for a while if he comes early :( I was planning to get the spectra since I have heard such good things about it!

@wildrainbow- good to know! I’m trying to reset my expectations on everything right now. I know it will be ok in the long run, just preparing myself that we are likely looking at least some NICU time and baby likely won’t be coming home with us right away :(

@halips- good questikn. I have been focusing on my bag since I know our baby likely won’t be coming home with us right away. But from what I have heard most hospitals really do provide a lot. I have to find a good first outfit but waiting until I know better what size he may be.

  • @jamieh2000 how are you feeling? Keep that little man cooking!! I have the spectra and love it! In the hospital and for the first month I used the Medela symphony and had no complaints. Helped my milk come in and I was able to start a freezer stash almost right away. Plus that’s what the hospital used and the nicu had some there so I didn’t have to lug a pump back and forth. I also kept an extra set of parts in the nicu. It really helped!

  • @Ilky and @DecemberDoll27 congratulations to you both on your adorable baby boys!!! So happy for both of you and your families!
