Normal NIPT/NT/genetics results thread *TW*

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd start this thread as results start to trickle in... Fingers crossed for everyone.

  • So is this for normal only? The baby is great but I have blood resistance problem I'd like to ask questions about. I have an appt next week but kind of spinning now.
  • @jhems776 blood resistance? What test? Maybe @eleven_ and I might be able to weigh in depending on the test.
  • So I really debated posting because I feel dumb for not remembering what she said. For the life of me I just do not remember what she said after problem and this puts me a higher risk for pre-eclampsia. She seemed not very serious about it though and just said to take baby aspirin daily till 37 weeks. I do remember she made a point of how my number on both the left and right side were high, but which numbers? How high are they really? Is it the artery or placenta. It hurt a bit when they took those pictures. Ah, spiraling. My next appt isn't until next week and I have so many questions and my regular doc is out for two weeks.
  • @jhems776 oh, sounds like a result from your ultrasound when the monitor cord blood flow. That unfortunately we can’t help with. Could you call the office and ask to speak with a nurse about it more? I know I personally sometimes walk out of an appointment and kick myself for not asking things. I keep a running list on my phone for my next appointment.
  • @jhems776 are you saying that there was something abnormal in the uterine artery doppler?
  • Honestly, it was so blurry what she said but she showed me the video and numbers of both blood flows of what I think were arteries. I have not been able to find the normal ranges of pulsed doppler? That what I think the numbers are from.  I found this site, https://perinatology.com/calculators/umbilicalartery.htm, but my numbers are way higher than the 95th. I feel so stupid not writing it all down. I asked what else they were going to monitor later and she said nothing extra as this rate can only predict pre-e now and is not reliable later.

  • @jhems776 I would think it can’t be anything tooooo serious or your doc would have spent some more time going over what it means and what you should/shouldn’t do, but I know what you mean about immediately forgetting what was said in the appointment. Hopefully you’ll be able to speak to someone and they can reassure you.

@chrssyms I seriously appreciate your ability to break down the science in layperson terms. Its very cool.
  • Thanks everyone. Very interesting read @chrssyms, will have to read the review paper they reference. I was trying to play it cool with it all as the doc wasn't rushing me to my doc or a specialist and then some bad Dr. Google this morning caused a bit of a freak out, even found a small sample study linking the high restricted blood flow to anxiety and was like I did this. I'm a lot more calm now. Nothing really more to do right now. I'm starting my question bomb for the doc. I'd like to wait till my appt but will probably call tomorrow.
  • @TJtheGoat no problem! it's a hobby of mine  but my mom, for the majority of her career focused on placental pathology research. She's always my go-to resource for this stuff and I talk to her about it alot. It's really interesting stuff

@jhems776 hope it was a little helpful, at least an example that seemed probably legit that wasn't scary. I agree with what everyone said that if they aren't rushing you to other stuff, then you don't need to worry yet because your docs aren't worried. And I've also seen the stuff about anxiety (which I just don't think is helpful), but the psychiatrist I talked with about my panic from flying specifically talked to me about how I didn't need to worry about a panic attack or anxiety hurting my baby. She said everyone still feels nervous and your baby can't tell whether you are exercising or just freaking out. She was the most helpful resource I have had to deal with my panic, so I trust her. I know it's easy to say "so don't worry," but I think if you do it's okay.
  • Got low risk for everything too. However, the heart seems a little odd. They told us tricuspid regurgitation. The doctor said it is most likely due to baby being too immature (I am 11 weeks and the heard could be just not fully done forming) and that it could be just transitory. They recommended NIPT which they dont do regularly here in Peru, and insurance doesnt cover so we will have a second ultrasound in a couple of weeks to see if it is gone or not. If not we will have to do NIPT and have the testing done in USA.
I am feeling a bit anxious. It was so so amazing seeing the baby jumping around and moving so much though. Our last scan was at week 6 so not a whole lot to see then. Hoping this is nothing, sorry for the vent.
  • Our NIPT is low risk for everything! I’m starting to get excited!
Lurking from May...  I am so so freakin excited for you!!!  Yay!!!
  •  I just logged into my online portal and it only says "neg" does that mean I am in the clear? I was expecting a little bit more information.
  • @amaren-2 I had the materniT test done, the nurse called and told me the results and she used the words “normal”, they posted the results online the next day and they had the word “negative” so I would assume that yours would mean something similar but I’m not sure with all the different tests out there
  • @nmbrcrnchr1 that makes sense, my OB doesn't call unless something is wrong and I didn't do the test where you find out the gender.
  • @amaren-2 I think it gives a positive or negative result and negative would mean nothing showed up on the test.  That's my understanding.

NT scan and NIPT both looked great, I would have hugged the MA thru the phone if I could have. Got the gender but pretty sure I have a family member or two lurking on here so I’ll share after Christmas 😜

    Edited because words 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • Waited nearly two weeks just to learn that something was wrong with the NIPT blood sample and there were no results. The clinic RN said she had “never seen that lab note before”. Neither Harmony nor the clinic will explain more to me, so I have no idea if there was just insufficient fetal DNA or if someone screwed up the test somehow. I’m not feeling pregnant to begin with (very few symptoms in T1), and I don’t have a Dr. appt until next week, so now of course I’m worried about what this weird glitch could mean.  😕 Did a redraw this week so hopefully will see some results before my next visit.
  • @laura_pdx ugh I am sorry! That is so beyond frustrating! I’m the type that would push for a rush or something like that if it’s possible. And I’m sure mistakes like this happen all the time, no way it was the first time she ever saw this happen

Thanks @cricket1688 I think I may call back and be a little more “pushy”. Appreciate the reassurance, too!
  • That’s super cute to wait until Christmas @ncm1919 I admire your self-restraint too! I would’ve torn that envelope open long ago haha

Haha. It’s mostly an effort to prove to my husband that I can. I feel like when you’re an adult there are far too few good surprises.  The main surprises I seem to get these days include opening the bills from all these doctor visits and seeing what my insurance doesn’t cover.

I’m doing something cute for my daughter and wanted us all to get to enjoy the surprise. We are doing very minimal presents for the adults this year. I know my husband got me a record but that’s it. So this will be our big gift.
  • Results came back negative! Trying to refrain from opening the gender envelope at least until SO gets home.

@laura_pdx I had an issue with one of my blood draws with DD. I was too dehydrated when they drew the blood and it clotted before they could test it. I hope it was just something simple yet inconvenient and annoying like that for you.
