How are things going?: Okay. Moody and hungry af. I’ve gained so much weight during this. Like 15 lbs. I really cannot wait until I can work out.

AF is due in about a week. CD1 I'll be calling the RE to schedule blood work and US for IUI #1 this next cycle.

How are things going?:
Fine. I have a work trip later this week so hopefully AF is here before I know it. A BFP on our last natural cycle would be cool too though.

Any questions?:
I'm wondering if and when I should let my boss know I'm going to be having all these appointments. He'll be on the trip with me so maybe I'll bring it up then that I'm going through some testing and monitoring. I'd rather not mention fertility so what's a good script to use?

@inthewoods23 I think you could say a version of "I'm going through some diagnostic testing with potential for treatment and may have a few more medical appointments than normal, but it is nothing life-threatening" - this is my plan, but I work in Privacy and the moment I say this everyone will default to SAY NO MORE!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI #1 with oral meds only, with saline sono as well

How are things going?: good so far - no real side effects from letrozole, but I'm on day 3 of 5. I have my saline sono and I am a little nervous as I don't do well with things being stuck in my cervix

I legit passed out from my IUD insertion.

@inthewoods23 I agree with chichiphin on this one. Say as little as you need to, but still let them know you are doing testing. It is a personal matter and there should not be any questions that come from that.
@chichiphin Sorry that you are feeling anxiety about the sono. Hoping that everything goes smoothly for you.

How are things going?: Not great. I ended up testing at home because I go for my beta tomorrow and did not want to get bad news from a stranger over the phone while sitting at work. Turns out I made the right call. I am feeling very broken and angry that not only did this fail, but none of our others made it to freeze. We will see if we are able to get a follow up with our RE before the holidays, but unlikely that that will happen.
I spent a lot of time over the weekend crying and trying to make sense of it all. This IF deal just never gets any easier.

@suzycupcake FX! For cravings, I usually find a way to eat what I'm craving but in a small portion and then stick to healthy stuff aside from that. I think trying to hard to forget the craving makes me more likely to eat worse as I search for the thing that will satisfy me. So if you want a cookie, eat one. But don't eat seven!

@inthewoods23 I like chichiphin's idea of making it clear that there is a medical reason but that it isn't life threatening. No one should press you and if they do I'd say something like, "I'm not really sharing the details with anyone right now."

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): Today is FINALLY CD1!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Baseline stuff - scheduled my baseline BW, genetic screening BW and baseline US for Wednesday AM, HSG is Friday. Still need to get my infectious dz bw done and hubs needs bw and his SA. (Question on that below).

How are things going?: Well, after three cycles of 6-7d LP, this past one was 9 days. I admit that my hopes were up but I decided to look at it as a step in the right direction. So I'm a little sad we weren't the special snowflakes to conceive on our own right before official testing/treatment, but I've decided I'm moving on mentally. I'm excited to get the ball rolling and get some information.

Any questions?: OK, so for the semen analysis. I was going to schedule it at the same time as my HSG on Friday. Hubs' company party is the night before and he will be drinking a lot. Is this going to affect his SA or should I have him plan to submit a sample at another time?

@suzycupcake Congrats on being PUPO! I agree with other as far as moderation being the key with cravings. One thing I love to eat when I have a sweet tooth is vanilla greek yogurt with some peanut or almond butter and a few mini chocolate chips mixed in. It tastes like cookie dough but it less sugar and has protein.

@inthewoods23 Sounds like you got some good advice already so I really don't have much to add. GL with this TWW

@chichiphin GL with the sono. I would ask your RE if they have any suggestions to make it a little easier.

@nitnat007 I am so sorry doesn't seem like enough. Hopefully you can get an appointment with your RE soon. Take care of yourself.

@Swiftlet That's great you can get your testing started! I would ask your RE's office about the SA. They gave MH instructions about what to do and not to do but honestly it was a year ago and I don't remember.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI with Gonal, Ovidrel, prometrium

How are things going?: After 4 US in 8 days I finally have a date for my IUI! Yesterday's US showed my lining at 9.7 (a few mm thicker than it ever has been!) and one follicle at 17 and one at 14. I am triggering tonight and going for my IUI Wednesday morning!

Any questions?: For those who have had an IUI did you relax the rest of the day?

@suzycupcake Good luck! I found that having a low-calorie beverage (like Spindrift) makes me feel full for a while without turning to the sweets.

@inthewoods23 I would let your boss know ASAP. While we all wish for quick BFPs, this process drags on so long for many of us, so being upfront about it will let your boss know that you aren't just slacking. I would say that you are okay, but need some medical monitoring for the time being, which could require some flexibility with work. If you lead by saying you are okay, then people tend not to want to start prying.

@chichiphin I hope that your IUI goes smoothly. Sometimes I've had what my RE has called "extreme cervical resistance," but other times everything goes well. Maybe you can ask if they can give you something to soften your cervix, if it's needed.

@nitnat007 I'm so sorry. That's precisely the reason I've wanted to test at home before my betas first. I hope your RE is able to get your in for a WTF appointment before the end of the month.

@Swiftlet In general, your DH should chill with the drinking while you are doing fertility treatments. (Sometimes the Hs need the docs to say it to believe it, but it is a good rule to help improve sperm quality.) You can remind him that it's a team effort--both of you need to cut back. However, since this is just a general SA, the drinking is probably fine for now, since a lower baseline might give him the encouragement he needs to be as healthy as possible during this time.

How are things going?: The shots and meds are going well, although I forgot how much everything disrupts my sleep. I'm so excited that tomorrow is finally the day and then I can finally be DONE.

@suzycupcake Wishing you all the best with your FET. Be kind to yourself. This stuff is hard enough without the weight gain. Hoping so hard you have more weight to gain over the next 10 months.

@nitnat007 OH, old friend. I wish there were words. Please take care of yourself.

@celticknotfire After my first 2 IUIs, I rested as I had the day off & it was a 2+hr drive home. The next two, I went on with my day as usual (both Saturdays). though I didn’t work out that day. This next one will likely fall on a work day, so I’ll go back to work after the appointment. There’s no hard&fast rule. It was nice in the beginning to feel like I was doing something by tearing & veg out with good snacks & tv.

@inthewoods23 Everyone has given great advice on approaching it nonspecifically. However, I ended up telling my work bc they were jerks about it at first. My medical notes to excuse time off also gave away where I was going to the doctor. They have been far more accommodating once I spilled my guts about IF&RPL.

@swiftlet In General, what YH does the night before does not have a huge impact. His sperm are created +/- 3 months prior to when they are ejaculated. Agree with the cutting back on drinking, though.

AFM, I’m in the 5th injectable IUI cycle.
TW-loss

As RE is slightly more concerned with recurrent losses than IF right now, we are doing another IUI. Since I have been pregnant from 50% of IUIs (and lost 100% of those), we are adding in some meds to see if that changes anything.

We said we’d do 2 more IUIs (this one plus one more). However, I am so over this. I think this may be our last one before we take at least a 3 month break.

@suzycupcake I don't know what kinds of food you're craving, but I read once that if you're craving something sweet brushing your teeth can help. The sweetness/minty flavor of the toothpaste can sometimes trick your mind.
@inthewoods23 I agree with the other ladies, tell your boss your doing testing for medical reasons. He doesn't need to know more than that, and legally can't ask about it either.
@chichiphin my SIS was a bit difficult, took longer than anyone expected bc she had issues with getting through. I was doing deep breathing to try to relax myself. The longer it took the more tense I got. I think alohakumu gave great advice. GL with the IUI!
@nitnat007 there are no words, I'm so sorry. I'm glad you were able to protect yourself and test at home first. FX the RE can get you in soon.
@Swiftlet yay for moving forward! I agree with alohakumu (again) that alcohol can play a role in male fertility and moderation is key if he is going to continue to drink.
@celticknotfire my first IUI was on a Saturday so I just went home and chilled on the sofa. My 2nd and 3rd were in the middle of the work day and I went back to work after.

@inthewoods23 I mentioned it to my boss that I was going through a medical issue when we started testing since there were many appointments. Luckily my RE office opens early so I was able to do alot of the appointments before work but there were some I had to take work off. If they are a decent boss/person, they will understand.
@chichiphin Definitely take advil before.. Are they able to give you something as well to ease your nerves, maybe Valium or something similar?

@Swiftlet My RE told us that sperm take 3 months to make so the alcohol shouldn't affect what he will be giving as a sample but that might be a question for your doc. If he does drink, definitely hydrate the morning of the SA

How are things going?: Finally starting to feel "normal", but really, what is normal during IVF lol The bloat over the weekend from the ER and horrible *TMI* constipation was the worst ive felt since starting this journey. Just being patient and waiting for our 5 day report on how many survived.

Any questions?: Anyone else deal with constipation during this? It was getting pretty bad near the end of stim and with the ER, its gotten worst. Doctor recommended a stool softener, but ive taken the full dose for 3 days and nothing. ahhhh

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Natural cycle but if I get AF we'll be moving to the IUI. AF is due around Christmas Eve so that'll be an interesting start for sure. I've already checked hours with the RE to make sure it won't mess up timing of anything needed if that's the case.

How are things going?: Things are ok. I'm more focused on planning for when the IUI cycle starts. In a way it takes a lot of pressure off this cycle because my mind is already thinking about the IUI cycle if that make sense.

@AlohaKuma I don't drink at all (just personal preference - I think I drank enough for a lifetime in college, haha!) but hubs does enjoy his craft beer and fine whiskeys. My bad habit is Diet Pepsi which isn't much better, oops. We should try to cut back on our respective vices together, I think, which may help ease the pain. Thanks for the idea

@kobrien827 Probably TMI, but have you tried any additional fat to your diet? I know everyone always says fiber and water, but I find that certain healthy fats (avocado, for example) can help move things along...

@littleredm It's good to have something else to think about, I agree. I know my RE's office has everything worked out for weekend or holidays for those who need it. Hopefully yours is the same and things go smoothly.

@kobrien827 the post ER constipation is the worst!!! I don't know what worked because i drank prune juice, ate a bunch of fiber, drank a bunch of water and took stimulant laxatives and it still took 3 days. Hang in there! Fingers crossed for your day 5 report!

@littleredm I'm in the same boat - currently feeling a little more relaxed about this cycle since we're planning to move to IUI.

Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS, MFI

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO (CD14)

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): I had an HSG last week (results were normal) and H has his second SA scheduled for a few weeks. Part of me wishes he had scheduled it sooner, but we didn't want to risk having to abstain during FW so we scheduled it towards the end of my cycle.

How are things going?: Pretty good I guess. Depending on O, AF is due around Christmas and we will be traveling out of state with family for several days after Christmas. I'm worried about scheduling Day 3 BW and U/S if we happen to be away, and if I'm not able to fit it in, that would delay our first IUI cycle at least a month.

Any questions?: I had BW and an U/S done back in April (when they confirmed PCOS), but not on CD3. Is it possible to start treatment the same cycle as Day 3 testing? My RE suggested we would start Femara Days 3-7, so I didn't know whether I would start that the same day I go in for testing, or if I would need to wait for another whole cycle to start treatment. I know this is a question for my RE, but we're waiting on H's second SA results and for new insurance to start Jan 1 anyway so I was going to wait until our follow up appointment to ask more specifics.

So..... Should I still keep my notice of all the testing vague or do you think it would be okay to mention it's for infertility treatment?

@dogmomma096 there shouldn't be any reason you can't start the treatment right away. They'll probably do all the baseline testing then send the prescription to a pharmacy of your choice to start taking that day. I think... (fellow IUI noob)

@intothewoods23 The reason I ask is because our first and second clinic opened early like that too. Baselines and monitoring appointments were super quick and we could still get to work without having to take any time off. It sucked to get up super early, but it worked out. The only time we had to take 1-2 hours off was on IUI day because the sperm has to be put through a specific process that takes a bit. The procedure itself is like 5 minutes. Personally and this is just my opinion, it's more professional to bring something like this up at the office rather than on a work trip. But you're an Engineer and know your work culture wayyyy better than I do. Regardless, I hope you're able to find a treatment schedule that works out the best, is the least amount of stress possible, and that your boss will be very understanding. Chichiphin's what to say advice is really good!

@suzycupcake I'm in agreement with what you said. I was thinking of bringing up tomorrow that I'll be having a number of appointments for some testing and monitoring or treatment and that I'll keep him in the loop when I know appt dates. I would prefer earlier appt times too because traffic to go in the direction of the clinic is the worst in the evening. Plus with DH's work it may be very difficult for him to leave in the middle of the day for these appts (or at least the IUI procedure).

AFM - I am now feeling the side effects of the letrozole. dizzy, headaches, and O pain that I normally get when I O... except I'm only on CD6 at this point. Very interested to see where my follicles are at when I go in on CD9.

@suzycupcake lots of good advice so far. Since I'm off most carbs, of course all I crave is sweets these days. I'm with swiftlet, eat the cookie but not the whole box. Realistically the only way I can control myself is to not keep anything "bad" in the house. When you do eat, make sure you have enough protein as that should help satiate you so you're not too hungry between meals.
@inthewoods23 I'm fortunate enough to work in a family office so my dad is my boss, but I also don't want to tell him the entire story so I've kinda just left it vague, gave him enough information so he won't speculate but didn't spell it all out for him. @chichiphin I had my saline sono this morning. Just finished my last dose of the letrozole and so far it's been the kindest of all my meds so that's comforting.

@kobrien827 how are you feeling today? So sorry about the constipation, you can try mangoes. They're high in fibre and taste great. MF has really awful issues too and a mango slush usually helps (literally pureed frozen mangoes and mango juice, and plain, full fat greek yogurt or kefir).
@littleredm Rachel McAdams is for sure a WCW for me. FX you won't need that IUI but I totally know what you mean about finding some comfort in having a plan, even if you don't need it. I'm a planner, I have a backup plan for everything.
@dogmomma096 my RE didn't wait a full diagnostic cycle to prescribe the letrozole. You can start either day 3 or day 5. He didn't even wait to make sure my tubes were clear (they are, thankfully). He said based on my b/w and my irregular cycles, he's fairly confident I don't O on my own so he had no problem moving straight to a monitored, medicated cycle. I was fine with that too, otherwise my diagnostic (an-o) cycle could've been 45+ days long, only to confirm what we already know.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): started letrozole on Thursday, sonohysterogram this morning. (see my WTO updates for that... woof, that was a doozy). SA results should be in but we don't have an online portal so we're waiting for our next appt Friday to find out the results. He has a history of low count so we're not anticipating much different.

How are things going?: The metformin is upsetting my stomach, the antibiotics I'm on for the sono are making me nauseous, I flip flop between being optimistic and just bursting into tears at the most random triggers. But my tubes are clear and the doc said my ute looks great, no polyps, no fibroids, just a subserosal fibroid on the outside of my ute that won't impact fertility.

Any questions?: can mood swings be a symptom of the letrozole? I'm normally like that in my TWW but not during my FP.

@kiki047 noooooo your WTO update on the saline sono is my WORST FEAR. I basically had the same reaction to my IUD insertion and was couch-bound until later that night. UGH. And yes- I do think letrozole might cause mood swings bc I have been kinda nasty to MH yesterday and today. Are you on 2.5 or 5 mg a day? I'm on 5 and I feel like I am busting at the ovaries from it.

@chichiphin I'm sorry, I wanted to shelter you from that. one of my BFFs had hers done at the same clinic and said it really wasn't a big deal. Just one big cramp and that was it. They kept moving the catheter around on me and everytime they moved it I almost puked. It was a weird pain, I would imagine a lot like the IUD insertion (I've never had anyone fishing around my cervix before, other than a super quick pap) so that was ... uncomfortable. They told me to take 2 advil an hour before coming in to help relax the muscles. Experiencing some mild period-type cramping now but otherwise the discomfort was just localized to that specific moment.
I'm on 2.5mg of the letrozole, maybe that's why I have only experienced mild symptoms. Some hot flashes right after taking it and possibly the mood swings.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI

How are things going?: Not so good. We did the IUI today but the sample was 7.2mil with only 3% morphology

The doctor left me feeling very pessimistic about this cycle and that was even before the procedure..

Any questions?: If this one doesn't work, I'm torn between IUI #5 (we just got the protocol right on IUI#3) or IVF. We get no help from insurance so everything is OOP. It's terrible that IVF is so expensive.

AFM - my follies are growing, the biggest two measuring 12.8mm and 13.4mm this morning. My left ovary hides behind my fibroid so the tech has to dig around in there to get a clear scan. I had the same technician at the RE's office today that I had for the sono yesterday, I didn't know she worked in both offices. She was wonderful, and explained what she was doing, so that was hugely comforting. Friday we get the results of the SA and decide if we are doing a natural cycle or moving straight to IUI.

AFM- Received our 5 day report. Out of 14 fertilized, 5 made it to freeze. They are still watching two more and will update me again tomorrow. Very happy with that number. We plan to do a FET in January.
