UTI

Last night I went to the ER because every time I would empty my bladder it would hurt so bad. They told me I have a UTI and gave me a prescription for it. Once I got home the pain got worst and I started noticing blood on my urine (sorry TMI) I just want to know has anyone experience this should a UTI be this painful? I’m so scare and tempted to run back to the ER to make sure everything is ok.

Re: UTI

  • @jwalters2019 no experience but could you call your OB's nurses line or something? I'd hate to have you rush back to the ER again.

I love mayo clinic (more than webMD or any of those) for legit advice. This website does say a UTI could cause blood in your urine. I'd take your medication as I'm sure they did a culture test and confirmed the UTI (right?). But still call your doctor's office and talk to someone ASAP to make sure they aren't concerned. They may want you to come in but going back to the ER when their diagnosis still lines up with your symptoms seems unnecessary. You'd be better off with advice from your OB, IMO.

  • Some UTIs can be very painful and can cause blood in your urine.  It's no fun.  I hope the meds help and you feel better soon.
  • UTIs can definitely be painful and cause blood in your urine. The bigger concern is if symptoms worsen and you start to get pain in your back (kidneys).  It may hurt, but make sure you are drinking plenty of water.  Water with lemon or cranberry juice are even better to help flush it out. Hopefully the meds work quickly.
  • I've had a severe UTI with blood in the urine, I would agree with calling the nurses' line.  I'm sorry you're dealing with that, it is so unbelievably uncomfortable.

  • I recommend Uricalm for the pain. I used to get UTIs frequently as a teen and it really helps. I think it’s pregnancy safe but ask your doctor first of course.
  • Thank you everyone. I have called my dr and I will be going in to my clinic today. Just want this gone. It’s so painful.
  • @jwalters2019 Sorry,  I'm just getting caught up. How are you feeling now? What did your doc say? Blood in the urine sounds very scary.  I hope you are doing better.

  • I've had a ton of UTIs and besides labour and gallstones I would definitely describe some of the ones I had as one of the most painful things I've experienced. I'm glad you went in and they caught it because they can definitely get worse. I hope you are feeling better soon! I found once I was on the antibiotics I started to feel better within a day or 2. Definitely lots of water and cranberry juice!
  • I started taking a cranberry supplement in general to help prevent them because I’ve never had a UTI and I’ve had two this pregnancy!

  • @expandcontract He basically told me it’ll start getting better after 3 days. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow. I feel so much better. 💕
  • @mrskoz428 oh no! They’re the worst! This is the second time for me the first time was just as painful but I wasn’t too worried about it because I wasn’t pregnant. I just worry about the baby since I’m already high risk for preterm labor.
  • **lurking** I have had several UTIs - if they give you pyridium, don’t freak out if you start peeing bright orange. I was taking it during a zumba instructor training and my white sports bra and underwear were stained orange from my sweat 😆 I drink water with a big splash of cranberry juice in it - make sure you get no sugar added pure cranberry juice, not cocktail - the extra sugar from cranberry juice cocktail can make it worse. I won’t lie, it’s not delicious but it helps. If you get one post-pregnancy check out AZO cranberry, I do not believe it is safe to take during pregnancy due to one of the herbal ingredients. Hope you feel better!
  • How have some of you ladies never had a UTI, before? That sounds awesome to me. Thankfully,  I'm not particularly prone to them,  but I have had a few thought my life.  The very 1st one I remember was when I was about 13.

  • @expandcontract I've never had one but my sister had one that went undiagnosed when she was a young toddler - they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her and she ended up having surgery at Children's in Boston when she was 2 because her urinary tract was so damaged before they figured out what was going on. I think I've been tested for them A BUNCH because my mom and then therefore me are crazy about the teeniest symptom that might indicate one. If it makes you feel better (I'm sure it doesn't :D ) I got my first yeast infection this pregnancy so that was fun!
