Re: Appointments week of 12/3

  • I have 2 this week. Drs check in and blood work tomorrow. Hopefully we will schedule our 20wk scan then.

And then Wednesday an elective scan because our sex scan was horrible. H didnt get to see anything other than baby's privates for all of 2 seconds. He really wanted to see her move and the tech was awful so they are letting us come back in with a different tech and supervisor. First tech was a bitch and left a bruise on my belly...

  • @bumbly_b a bruise?!? What the hell! That’s ridiculous! My anatomy scan, which is also the sex scan, is 90 minutes long! That’s just the ultrasound!

  • @bumbly_b how the hell did she manage to do that? Is she a newbie?

  • We have our anatomy scan on Friday!!
  • @bumbly_b also wondering how she managed to leave a bruise! My goodness! @mrskoz428 that's a long scan! I think mine was about 45 minutes. Twas a blessed moment when she finally let me pee halfway through.

  • Im scheduled to see MFM on Thursday this week along with level II U/S. We're going to check to see if, God forbid, baby has a cleft palate or lip, which is one of the side effects of taking prednisone during pregnancy.  Im so nervous.

  • @expandcontract ❤️❤️❤️ will be thinking of you

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I doubt it will last that long but that’s how long the schedule it for.

@expandcontract thinking of you! Hope the week moves quickly!

  • @DuchessOfCambridge they made me pee right when I got to mine 🤔 they never made me hold my bladder. Ugh our tech last time was a B though. She was irritated I had to pee, then she was irritated we wanted her to write the sex on a piece of paper, she was impatient the whole time. Ugh.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds...wut. Does she understand how anatomy scans work because that's basically it - women needing to pee and parents being really excited 😂 my office makes you have a full bladder until third tri so she did the first have that way and then had me empty and finished up

  • @DuchessOfCambridge it was a military hospital. Aside from my midwives, most of the professionals there are rude. I've tried to figure it out from a nursing perspective, and I think they're overworked, underpaid and military spouses can be really difficult to deal with (can be, not always).
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I get it, I'm just always surprised when people in those jobs have an attitude. I understand they've done it tons of times and it's not special to them, but it's special to the family and I feel like that should be understood 🤷 I feel the same way about nurses who work in prenatal care, just because you're used to hearing about the same symptoms that end up being NBD doesn't mean that mom is. I'm sure if I get to be a postpartum nurse like I want, I'll have to prepare myself for the same questions over and over again because going from an inside baby to an outside one while recovering from a train wreck is hard and confusing.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge i was talking to a contractor as we were walking through my house and he was inspecting it and he was telling me there was mold or other things and he was like "you have to understand, I see this every day, and I see very frequently that it's not an issue. I know this is your first time experiencing this, but I assure you, it's not a big deal." And I think every profession can get into that where someone with little knowledge on the subject is certain it's bad, and the person with knowledge is unphased. I just hope that later in my career, I can still be assuring in those situations... Because I KNOW it's nothing. Versus getting annoyed for the same reason. I think nurses can truly get burnt out, and it's hard for patients when that happens. My fil is a nurse, and I got a whole big lecture about how ever nurse is on a ticking clock before something happens and they just can't do it anymore. Super reassuring to a new graduate 😂
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I think your contractor handled that perfectly! I'm sure it takes a lot of patience and practice...and I'm not a very patient person so I know I'll need to work on it!

  • To be fair i do bruise kinda easy on my midsection. Baby wasnt cooperating...I paid for an hour and she had us out in under 7 minutes. She kept taking the wand thing and jamming it into me and the wiggling it around. But I ended up with a bruise the shape of the wand on my right side.

I'm not a little girl so having my extra shake around was a bit embarrassing. Finally H looks at me and sees me in tears and tells her to knock it off. Then she says oh 3 lines you know what that means. And walks out. Nope didnt know what that meant. Had to ask another tech in the hall way.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I swear finding a kind nurse or doctor at a military hospital is like winning the damn lottery.
  • @bumbly_b PLEASE complain to the office manager about this tech,  if you haven't already! This B either has never been pregnant herself before or has never had an U/S done on her.  She should've noticed you were crying,  not your husband.  And it doesn't matter how big you are,  this is a non invasive test.  It should not be causing you any pain.

  • @bumbly_b and anyone else with a bad A/S experience, I am so sorry that such an important milestone in the pregnancy was tarnished in that way.

To anyone who hasn't had theirs done yet, if you start to feel uncomfortable or warm, ask if you can lean on one side. I didn't realize it was because I was lying on my back but with DD I was getting so uncomfortable that the tech noticed and asked if I was okay and she was the one who figured out I needed to lean on my side, gave me a rolled up towel to put under the other side, etc. The rest of the 45 min or so procedure was much better.

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday and all went well. I know it bothers some people but I love the quick in and out of the checkups, especially after having long appointments due to issues with bleeding earlier in the pregnancy. I got there early, they took me back 10 mins before my appointment, doctor came in, checked the HB, answered my questions and we were out of there 5 mins after my scheduled appointment started. Then I went across the street and got my 2nd tri blood draw.

I looked it up and it said we do the GD test between 24 and 28 weeks and now I'm curious - does anyone remember from last time or have in front of them when they'll get their's? We're switching insurances so once DH finalizes it in his open enrollment that ends Friday, I need to figure out what lab is in network.

  • @Kvh22 its been a long time so I could be remembering wrong, but I'm thinking I have usually had GD testing right around 26 weeks.
  • @bumbly_b seriously. We had one amazing nurse when I was recovering after having DS, but she was his nurse. I had no idea because my nurse didn't come in the entire shift (which as a nurse now, I'm like how TF did she do that? Sooo bad). The amazing nurse though was helping out from the PICU, and when DS got super sick, she was our nurse in the PICU, too ♥️ but I mean, I think I had maybe 5 nurses (for myself) during my stay, 4 said outright horrible things to me, and one I never even saw. I'm delivering at a civilian hospital this time, I can't do that crap again.
  • Had my appt today - I will be 17 weeks tomorrow.  Heard a strong heartbeat- will have level 2 u/s with a MFM within next 3-5 weeks- waiting on referral.  @eatinwatermelonseeds I am so glad the military hospital by us refers us out- I have heard nightmares about delivering in a military hospital.
@kvh22 I was tested at around 16 weeks and the again 26 weeks with my first pregnancy - second time ended up with GD.  I think it will just depend on which week your appt falls within that window.
  • @bpietronicco I'll have a 24 and 28 week appointment  :D I should just look back at my calendar or take the time to find the website that lists this info from my provider. Thanks!

We are in a great situation with DH's insurance right now but so overwhelmed with all the options (we will have no premiums, even for a cadillac plan). We're just worried we're going to find out my OB or DD's ped isn't in network so I'm trying to make sure we have time to confirm the lab (that the insurance person said was in network over the phone to DH) I plan to go to will actually be in-network. I ended up in tears last pregnancy trying to find an ultrasound place that was considered in network. It was a total disaster and they were not helpful. *end rant*

  • @bpietronicco I have such mixed feelings still though lol. My son was in the PICU there and I believe they saved his life. There was one doctor who sat outside his door all night the night before he was intubated and monitored him. For hours. But the ER turned us away 3 times and told me he was fine. I had to go to a civilian hospital for them to take me seriously and he was finally admitted and that night transferred to ICU. His ped was military, and she was amazing after that. We had just met her and frankly I hated her the day I met her, but she followed him while he was in the hospital and was amazing with him. I don't know. Not my first choice, but I have had some life changing experiences in military hospitals. I've had more crappy experiences, but it's really hard to discount the good experiences considering how good they were.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds aww yea that would definitely give me mixed emotions. <3

I just found the sheet online that says GD "challenge" (why do they make it sound like a competition?) is between 25 and 29 weeks and was able to go back in my work calendar to see I took it at exactly 26 weeks. I think I just made it for the time when I could get an 8:15am appointment since you have to fast before. None of my blood work or ultrasounds (NT and A/S at least) are done at the same appointment as my regular OB check ups so they're scheduled separately.
