  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? One, 5

How are your other kids doing this week? He's doing well. I was so so impressed with him last week at the hospital. He was a perfect angel the whole time and then fell asleep at midnight. He's just been doing so well.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Hmm, none really.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? I'm not even sure. I've bought stuff. But I have a tendency to order shit and then put it aside and forget it. I think I got him some Pokemon cards, a few games, a Nerf gun, a car thing that has tools so he can take it apart. I think that's enough and I want to get him something "big." We were talking about a trampoline or play set or something for the backyard but that would be a better spring gift.

How are your other kids doing this week? They're tired!  I took them to a hockey game on Saturday night (DH was coaching so we wanted to watch).  They had lots of fun and handled the late night well, went to bed when we got home and even slept in the next day but since then they're sleep has been horrible!!  Up crazy early yesterday and today, cranky throughout the day.  I hope they get back on schedule soon.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)?  I have a Lego Friends hospital and Barbie Camper for DD1.  Just ordered Christmas PJs, books and ornaments for both.  I still need to do stocking stuffers, but I have no clue what to get DD2 as her "big" gift from us and Santa.  She has asked Santa for a Belle doll but she already has one and never plays with her dolls anymore so I'd really like to find her something she'll actually like and get some use out of.  We just have far too many toys already and nothing I'm seeing is catching my eye.  If anyone has a great idea for a 3yo, I'm all ears.

  • @mcewen3 isn't it funny how kids are? "I'M TIRED SO I'M GOING TO BE AWAKE AND MAD ABOUT IT" Like, just sleep

How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 yo DS

How are your other kids doing this week? SO GOOD! He's pulling to stand and now he's starting to let go for a second or two to see how he balances. It's exciting and adorable to watch, he thinks it's hilarious when he lets go and cracks up.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Just willing this headache to go away. Nothing kid related, though.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? We don't celebrate any of the winter holidays but he just had his birthday so he got plenty! I haven't even given him all the toys he got yet, we put some away.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge right?  DD1 tried to tell DH that the reason she couldn't even fall back asleep the last two mornings (she's been up at 5:00) was because she could here him farting from her room and it kept waking her up 🤣🤣 I mean, the man can let 'em rip, but I don't think he farts in his sleep that much to wake a child in the next room, lol.  But she has been blaming him for her being tired for the past two days rather than, you know, just having a nap or something.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge That is so cute!! Good for him testing standing!

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD is almost 14 months

How are your other kids doing this week? Fine, she can walk if she wants, and has taken a few unassisted steps, but any time we let go of her hand while she's walking she sits down.  I think it's all in her head.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? This is such a stinkin cute age.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)?  I just ordered a few toys for her yesterday for Cyber Monday, a doll and a little ride-on giraffe thing.  Oh, and a stuffed Abby from Sesame Street, because that is her current jam.  When she gets a little older I want to do the pjs/book thing for Christmas Eve.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages?  1 son 2.5

How are your other kids doing this week? He's great! He handled the holiday madness really well including extra time with his dad and Black Friday shopping.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Not really.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? Our Santa gift is a balance bicycle. And our from mom and step dad gifts are little things, coloring books/supplies for his art table, a soccer goal to practice outside, a few stuffed animals, some movies for his stocking. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff. I'm struggling to keep the gifts straight with so many new nieces and nephews to shop for.

@eatinwatermelonseeds we were originally planning to do a trampoline as the big gift this year but thought it may make a better summer birthday gift. I always wanted one as a kid though so I really want to get my son one.

@mcewen3 a messed up sleep schedule is the worst! Hope it goes back to normal for you soon!

    @duchessofcambridge that's adorable!
  • @fuscok88 I always wanted one as a kid, too, but we always lived in apartments. Our new backyard is huge so I really want to deck it out with a trampoline, big playset thing, a pool. I feel like soon I'll complain there isn't enough room 😂

@mrsdee15 I feel like I've asked you this before so I apologize for repeating but if you had your daughter early and she's 14 months, did she have an August due date? I was in the Aug 17 BMB so just curious. I love hearing about kid's DD's age. It varies so greatly with what they're doing (DD's been walking for a couple months but is behind on some other things kids her age are doing more of).

How many kids do you already have? Ages? DD is 15 months

How are your other kids doing this week? Idk if molars are coming in or if this is a development thing but she is super fussy and throwing tantrums. It *seems* related to not being able to communicate but I want to see if she has any teeth poking through. She's at such a fun age developmentally at the same time, though, getting used to routines and saying more words (nigh-nigh at bedtime, waving when we say bye or even waving at the phone when I say bye to whoever I was talking to)

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Rant: DD woke up at 4:30 this morning. She slept through and for anyone following we got her in a bad habit during her last leap but are working on it so while this is progress, that sucked for DH and I (he tried to let me sleep but she gets milk first thing when she wakes up and see above about random tantrums so she was loud)

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? We are doing a book a day Dec 1-25 (great deals at costco on packs of books), plus family christmas PJs and I got a few toys. My coworker gave me her kid's old balance bike so I might wrap that as her big gift for photos (I've been holding on to it for a year already). She'll be a little young but the next gift occasion is her 2nd bday in August. Oh and MIL wanted to get her a doll to get ready to be a big sister (we have a little plush one but she wanted a more realistic one - I have issues with MIL but she is the perfect amount of giving without spoiling and always checks with us before buying bigger items). We discussed it and decided on an American Girl Bitty Baby which she got during their Black Friday sale and I'm so excited for her to have it :) MIL will give it to her at Christmas while we're visiting but also wants to pay for us to get her a little doll stroller here that we won't have to take on the plane ($20 at Costco).

ETA: @mcewen3 I selfishly asked this question because I don't know what to get DD so I am no help with your 3yo, unfortunately. If I didn't have the balance bike and all those books, I'd be kinda screwed. I just went too overboard for her birthday (and shopping on Prime Day for it).

@DuchessOfCambridge so cute! I loved the pulling up to stand phase <3

  • @kvh22 She was originally due at Halloween, and was born at the beginning of Oct.  I regret not being involved with my O17 BMB, though.  It's so interesting that there's such a range in abilities at this age, it's crazy how big the range is for walking.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages?  2 DDs, ages 5 (6 on Saturday  :'( ) and 2.5

How are your other kids doing this week? DD2 has been sick. Yesterday she just laid around snoozing on the couch all day... mostly not letting me move from her side, and refusing to eat anything. DD1 has been very sweet -- she was making little notes which said "I am thankful for my sister. I love you Rosie." etc. I think she's trying to be extra good for Santa, even though we have always told her that Santa is a pretend game we play.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? I feel bad that DD1's birthday is so close to Christmas -- I feel like she misses out on getting "outdoor" toys because we can't use them for like months. I'm looking forward to this baby having relatively nice weather on his/her birthday.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? Planning to get both girls a "Puppy Surprise" puppy for Christmas, because I remember my sister and I loving ours when we were little, and I love that they're making them again. I wish more of them had normal looking colors, though. I'm not really sure what else we will get -- really not sure what to get DD2, since we have tons of toys already.

  • @mrsdee15 can I call mom brain on that one? That would have worked if she was 16 months (one month OLDER than DD), not 14 months. *sigh* I'm hoping I haven't asked you that before, though, since I totally did the math wrong. One kid whose 5 weeks older than DD literally rolled over at 10 months, crawled at 11, and walked before 12. We were all like "wtf???"

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? One DS that is 2yo

How are your other kids doing this week? Good so far! Last week was crazy with Thanksgiving and he thrives on a schedule, so it’s good to be back to normal.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? We’ve started using a “clean up” bin to try to get him to start picking up at the end of the day and it’s actually working! He used to just have a meltdown over putting stuff away so it’s a big improvement

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? I got him a green toy train and a puzzle so far. I want to get him one “bigger” gift but can’t decide what yet. I’ve been thinking Lincoln logs since he’s into building and stacking things.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds  lol maybe but it'll be a fun yard!

@kvh22 that's exactly what my son did! He rolled once around 2-3months and then never did it again until 9-10 months and started crawling and then walking within a monthish. He was so lazy and then so mobile I got whiplash, lol.

@DressageDarling tell me more about this clean up bin. Is it exactly what it sounds like? Clean up time is a nightmare 90% of the time.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds we left our outdoor play centre at our other house (it was built on site and would have been near impossible to move) and the trampoline was written off in the same hail storm that totalled my suv.  So we have a bunch of outdoor stuff to restock on as well now that we actually have a house again.  Our yard is a good size but no longer massive (we previously had an acreage) so I’m undecided if we’ll actually get both again.  There are 2 parks within walking distance so I may just get the trampoline and then build a sweet sandbox in a corner of the yard, perhaps a baby swing attached to a tree.  We also have a Lifetime geometric climber from Costco, and it’s awesome so that needs a place too.  I love setting the yard up for the kids, it’s probably the thing I’m most excited to do this spring once we’re all settled in.

  • @fuscok88 It’s just a plastic bin we have him chuck all his toys in at the end of the day. It’s so simple but it has worked out so well. Some nights I’ll put the stuff in it’s proper space, but a lot of times I’ll just leave it in the bin for the next day. It’s helped make our living room feel like a living room and not a play room once he goes to bed.
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? One DD- almost 4

How are your other kids doing this week? She's having a good week so far

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Nopers!

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? I am not done shopping yet but her big gift is an Itty Bitty baby set that I got at Costco.
    DD1- Feb 2015
    DD2- EDD 5/12/2019
  • Hi everyone!! I've been out of the loop for a few weeks now with work travel and hosting 18 crazy family members for the holidays. Missed y'all though, hope everyone had a great holiday (if you celebrate)! Glad to be back and catch up.

How many kids do you already have? Ages? One DD- she's 2

How are your other kids doing this week? She's getting back in the swing of things after our family onslaught last week. We had some drama with health issues and family dynamics, so I was VERY happy when everyone left! DD loves being around her family, and it takes some adjusting once everyone leaves to get back in routine, but as she gleefully skipped into preschool this morning, I let out a big sigh of relief.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Just glad to be back!

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? We celebrate Hannukah, but relying on our families' gifts to get us through the eight nights. I've never been one to make it overly about gifts though, so if she doesn't get gifts for the whole time, so what....I'm trying to get more experience-focused gifts and discourage toys, she has so many already!

@mcewen3 my DD is younger than yours but have you thought about magnatiles? My daughter has been playing with them a lot lately, building towers and train tracks and all sorts of things. It helps that she plays with them at school, too, so she is inspired. But I've also seen my friends' 6 year olds play with them too so it's a good long use toy.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? One DS, almost 14 months. @mrsdee15 I'm an O17er and loved that BMB experience.  I need to be more active here because the bond with my first BMB is great; we still talk via FB everyday!

How are your other kids doing this week? He's been waking up multiple times at night lately -- not staying up, but he's clearly restless. He's drooling up a storm but I don't see the starts of any teeth.  We're in Leap 9, so that's probably the culprit.  This is such a fun age, though. He was an early walker (11 months) but now is delving into some talking. He only has a couple words and they mostly sound the same -- Jett is the babysitter's cat and he thinks all animals are Jett, haha.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Nothing here -- just looking forward to the holidays.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? DS is getting a play kitchen and a Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair.  The chair was planned for awhile, but the kitchen was a great Cyber Monday deal and I think he'll love it.  He's getting other small stocking stuffers, too.

  • @bluesky24 we love magnatiles!  The girls do have a pretty large set though.  My best girlfriend back home and I used to play with them all the time too, haha.  We’d be on the floor playing with the kids and then they’d get bored and move on to something else, we would still be building and playing with them for like 10 min before we realized it was just us 😂

  • @kvh22 I think pregnancy brain is always a valid claim (this morning I went to take something to storage... and accidentally took my English muffin instead).  DD has tended to be towards the end of the range for milestones, I'm not sure if that's from being early or she's just on that trajectory.  But all of the sudden she will just do something, without us knowing she could do it at all, so I guess it's just a waiting game at this point.

  • @mrsdee15 I think you'd know better than I would (DD was one day early so nothign to adjust) but I've heard for the leaps, at least, you go by their due date (adjust age), not when they were born. I've always just assumed that they get extra leeway if they're early on the milestones before there's any concern, etc. And DD has always been the opposite. Obviously rolling over is pretty straight forward but things like crawling and walking were over a few days to 2 weeks where DH and I disagree on what's the official "first" (he wants the earlier of it and I'm like, one step isn't "walking" - that was literally 2 weeks afterwards IMO).

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @kvh22 You're totally right about leaps, that goes by due date - our MD said DD would be totally caught up by 2 years, but she's not on the MD's preemie scale either because she was late preterm.  That's also a good point about what counts as the official first - DD has taken unassisted steps a few times, but she isn't doing it consistently, so I haven't considered her to really be walking yet.

  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1, 22 months

How are your other kids doing this week? Great, he loves having the tree up and is obsessed with wearing his Santa hat all the time too. He’s such a sweet boy.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Counting down to our anatomy scan in just over a week!

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? My parents are getting him a train set, my husband is building him a train table and we are also getting him some mega blocks, squigz toys and other miscellaneous things. His birthday comes up fast in January though so I think I need an idea for one more bigger thing for that! I thought about a balance bike but he won’t be able to use it until it’s nice out :/
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages?
    DD is 17 months

How are your other kids doing this week?
DD threw up at dinner last night and then spiked a 103 fever and was coughing all night. Today she woke up with no fever and is totally normal. Like what? I don’t get it, but I will take over a sick little girl.

    Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions?
I am so so sick. Luckily, my energy came back in time to fight this cold, but with DD sick and me battling this nasty cold for the last week with no end in sight, it’s been miserable at my house. Luckily DH can stay home with DD today because I think I only can take a total of 9 more days off to ensure fully paid leave and with ultrasounds and weekly appts in the 3rd trimester, combined with inevitable DDs sick days, we will be cutting it super close. I can’t complain, I took 18 weeks fully paid with DD and used most of the time I had banked then. I’m extremely fortunate and a day or 2 unpaid won’t bankrupt us or I can go back at 15 weeks (went back at 13 with DD), but at this point it’s more like a game to make it happen.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)?
DD is one of the lucky kids who gets to celebrate Haunnakah and Christmas. We have gotten her a bunch of little things- a stroller for her dolls, Elmo toys, Daniel tiger toys, a sled, snow pants, PJs, etc. I grew up with a Santa Claus that went nuts with presents and DH grew up getting small things for 8 days with Haunnakah, so it may be hard to get DH on board with splurging. This winter is financially tight for us and DH has no closings in the foreseeable future, we have a ton of home projects that have to get done before LO arrives, and we booked a Florida vacation. Eek. I try not to worry bc hes got some major listings that will hopefully sell when the market heats up again in the spring then will more than cover what we are putting on our cc right now, but there’s no way to know when, so now we are debating whether to use up our savings or do a 0% credit card transfer. I hate this time of year!
  • @aels12 My son loves his squigz! They are so fun. A "big" idea for around his birthday maybe an art table/art supplies? My son got real obsessed with crayons around his second birthday.
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? We have one, DD is 5.

How are your other kids doing this week? She's doing well. She's doing Upward Cheerleading at church and that's taking up our Monday nights now, on top of our regular church activities on Wednesday nights, so she's a little overtired this week. Super pumped about the Christmas season though! She got a part in her Christmas play at church, so she's been practicing her lines.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? Rant: I have debated over and over taking DD to our anatomy scan on 12/17, but I think I've made the decision not to. I think maybe we will do an elective u/s a little later on for her. I just get so nervous about each appointment. Rave: My cousin announced she's pregnant on Thanksgiving. We lost my brother when I was 8, so I am an only child. But she and I are just 5 weeks apart and grew up doing everything together; so she's really like my sister. And now out babies are due 5 weeks apart as well! It's very exciting! I think my DD may be a little overwhelmed now that two babies are coming into our lives. It's been just her in our family for the last 5 years.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? Santa is bringing her a Razor scooter, a Baby Alive (the only thing she actually asked him for was a "talking baby doll"), an "American Girl" doll school classroom set, and a stocking of things. We are giving her a small drone, board games, and books. MH got out of her the reason she wants a "talking baby doll" for Christmas. Apparenly she wants to practice how to talk with the new baby. *Heart melted*

    2 boys, 6 and 2.5
How are your other kids doing this week?
Ds2 has been a monster to put to sleep. I put him down at 7:45 and it is 9:05 and he is still not sleeping. I am so frustrated because I usually walk after they go to bed but hate walking after 9. I’m in serious go the F to sleep mode. he also had blood drawn yesterday so fingers crossed he comes back with normal iron levels. He has been on iron supplements since February, but we have yet to reach a normal threshold.

Ds1 has been a little off this week too and I am wondering if it is just the lingering effects of schedule change since thanksgiving.

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? My house is a disaster! I can’t get anything done because by time the boys go to bed (see above frustration) I am just too exhausted to get anything done. We still haven’t fully unpacked from our trip and I have at least 3 loads of laundry to do.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)?
we also celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah. The boys are lucking out this year because dh and I went to toys r us as it was closing over the course of several weeks and bought most of their gifts at 75% off. So we didn’t spend more money but they are getting bigger things than normal. For Hanukkah they are getting some craft stuff, ds1 is getting a microscope and a star wars ship. Ds2 is getting some reusable stickers and a playschool Star Wars ship, along with a couple other little things. We only do one Santa gift and one parent gift for Christmas (plus a stocking), the boys are getting a power wheels 12v lanspeeder from dh and I (thanks to it being 75% off at toys r us), and ds1 is getting a LEGO y wing from Santa, ds2 is getting a paw patrol boat. I usually do the want, need, wear, read for their stockings and have everything but the books (I am putting in a scholastic book order next week and will buy their books then).

For 3 year olds I recommend Melissa and Doug reusable stickers, or color wonder, magnatiles, and wood or foam blocks.
  • How many kids do you already have? Ages? 1 DS, he’ll be 2 on Sunday! I still can’t believe he’s been in our lives for this long ❤️

How are your other kids doing this week? DS is 2 on Sunday!! Yay! Family is in town so we’ll have a family party Sunday morning with breakfast and cupcakes midday with lunch. We might go to his first movie in theaters too!

Rants/Raves? Concerns/Questions? DS is potty training and was doing fabulously the first few days - like 1 pee accident on the first day and nothing since - until we took him to daycare. He is trying undies there and even though we send him with a timer so he knows when to go, daycare is being annoying. He’s had multiple accidents there and I’m pretty sure it’s because the girl who takes care of him is not responding to him quickly enough even with the timer. He has trouble pulling down his undies himself so he needs her help to be successful and she won’t let him use his potty there and she insists he needs to use the toilet with the seat reducer. I feel bad because he has such pride at home and has been doing great but he’s so sad when he doesn’t do well and has an accident.

GTKY: If you celebrate holidays, what are you getting for your LO(s)? Little man will be getting a toy train for Xmas this year from Santa and then from us we do the 4 gift Xmas - something for them to wear, to read, they need, and they want. So we have a ski helmet and googles, some Curious George books, some more training undies, and a little play camping kit. I’m excited to see how he likes the train set. 🚂
  • @Stormiewinter What microscope did you decide on? My 5 year old (6 in April) I think would REALLY enjoy one, but the Jr. version I found is just pictures on slides and I think she might get bored with it once she's gone through them all. She'll want to go out, pick up leaves and flowers and look at them, but I didn't want to get anything too advanced.

@MaggieG183 Potty training can be so challenging when day care isn't as committed. It took DD a week at daycare to get the hang of it without any accidents. She probably had one 3 of her 5 days there, but day care was supportive of changing clothes for us as many times as needed. Through that week, DD learned what it took to make it in time or to get someone to help her, so it was a good learning experience.
