Trying to Get Pregnant

WTO Wednesday 11/14

**This is a thread that welcomes all regardless of where they are at in their TTC journeys. Please be mindful of topics that are discussed that could be hurtful to those going through tough times. Mention of children or pregnancies of others should have a TW and be in a spoiler if possible, and only be mentioned if it is extremely pertinent to the conversation. Thanks for keeping this a safe place for us all to engage!**

  • Month/Cycle: 22/4 after bench

    CD: 14

    WAYDTGKU:  hio, pnv, temping

R/R:  this has been a ridiculously busy week for work, then on top of it, I had to call out on Monday, and I am only working a half day today.  I feel like I am never going to catch up!

CS/Q:  I am thinking I may have O’ed yesterday, which is frustrating because timing was not great due to issues out of our control.

    CD: 5

WAYDTGKU: temping, OPKs, U/S and blood work for the RE

R/R: excited for the end of the month when we have the "what's next" appointment with the RE but I'm sad it's the week after Thanksgiving so I still have to make it through that before we have a treatment plan in place.

CS/Q: nothing special going on there. I should have some time in the evening to get all or most of my temps from the year entered in FF so I can compare it to what Flo has been telling me. I wonder if O dates will be the same

    CD: 8

WAYDTGKU: The usuals, plus SMEP starting tonight! (DH said "SMEP ya tomorrow!" last night lol)

R/R: After a terrible start to the week, it's actually turned out alright. I only have four work days left til Thanksgiving break, so that helps too!! Although I've been good about avoiding caffeine, I did relax a bit yesterday and ate a donut. That was nice too 🍩
  • My participation in the dailies has slacked.

@holly321 I hope you didn't O yet - but that is one steady lookin chart!
@jennifer_louise lol SMEP ya tomorrow. Also you deserve a donut after having a terrible start to the week.

R/R: I can't believe we are traveling for thanksgiving in a week. this year has flown by... my new position has kept me super busy but I don't mind - I think it is helping with my TTC brain. I've also chilled out about this month because I'm pretty sure it won't work out naturally regardless of what I do.

  • @chichiphin Ahhh that's so soon!! If you don't mind me asking, are you over 35? Just wondering if you got a referral to an RE because of that or another reason. I'm nearing the 6 month mark (if it doesn't happen this time) so it's on my mind.

@inthewoods23 Excited for your appt too! We'll all be here to help get you through Thanksgiving.
  • @jennifer_louise I am 28. We got in with the RE bc my husband did a SA when I did all of my bloodwork for my short LP, and it turns out we are dealing with male factor infertility.

  • @chichiphin Thanks! I am 31 but I am hoping my OB might recommend testing soon (I have a short LP too and my hubby wants a SA). Good luck to you two! I am less educated on the treatment options for male factor so I'm gonna be stalking your updates (:
  • @holly321 Sorry for the busy week. Hopefully, you didn't O yet. FX!
@inthewoods23 GL with your upcoming RE appointment! I know it's hard to wait, but the time will go by so quickly.
@jennifer_louise I'm glad that your week is turning around. That doughnut sounds soooo good!
@chichiphin GL at your RE appointment! It's so close! And I know what you mean about feeling like the odds of things happening naturally are not ideal. Once I found out I was having a 7 day LP I was like, "So... is this practice?" Hang in there!

Where's the admin?? Oh. Wait. This is Facebook. Carry on." :D
Rave: This is ridiculous, but I'm going to Target later today. I don't know why, but that makes me so freaking happy! Plus, I have a gift card, so it's extra exciting to me.

@chichiphin Hope your holiday travels are stress free! SO close to your appointment!

@elle-0409 I think its crazy people already have trees up! Maybe it's because I get a live tree and places don't open until after Thanksgiving. Enjoy the target run! Hope you find lots of good things! Are you shopping for yourself or Christmas shopping?

TTGP November 2018 Siggy Challenge - Thanksgiving Dinner Fails

  • @jennifer_louise Your H could request a SA to his PCP. That's what mine did during his physical. The doc gave him a sterile cup and a paper whit instructions. He did it before the 6 month mark (we are both over 35). Turns out he has low count (3.3 millions/ml when the low normal is 15 millions). He made an appointment last month with a urologist specializing in male infertility but it isn't before the end of January. I am doing tests on my side to try to save some time as I am turning 37 next year. I just did the CD3 blood draw. My OBGYN was totally fine with ordering all theses tests (CD 3 blood tests, CD 7-10 ultrasound and HSG) and told me to make an appointment with a RE clinic in the next couple months if still no BFP.
As for male infertility, a urologist will try to determine a cause. It can be physical or hereditary. In some cases, it can be fixed. If low count is caused by a varicocele vein, surgery will fix it. Also, getting the right vitamins and changing your lifestyle can improve the results of your SA like no caffeine, reduce alcohol, loose underwear, keeping your testicules cool (no hot showers, no heated seats, no laptop..). My H has been doing all this plus taking the FertilAid pills (FertilAid, count boost, motility boost). His motility and morphology results were good so we're hoping the pills will help with his count.
The sad part is that if my tests turn up to be excellent and his count is still low, it will still suck for me as I will be the one who will have to take all the drugs and undergo all the procedures. His younger brother (25) doesn't produce any sperm and only has 1 testicule. I believe they were still able to harvest a few spermatozoon but they have to do IVF. My SIL, who is 23 and healthy has to take all the drugs for the IVF to be successful. All he had to do was ejaculate in a cup and boom, he's done!

@inthewoods23 That will definitely be an interesting thing to find out. And I'm sorry about your appointment being after the holidays.

@jennifer_louise Yummy! Glad you could de-stress a bit.

@chichiphin Glad that it was able to take your mind off of the TTC journey (even if just for a little). And you never know, good things happen when you least expect it!  ;)

@elle-0409 YES! I love Target, especially when I have money to spend there. I'm so tempted to go and check out holiday stuff but that will lead me down a spending rabbit hole.

@rikiteacup GL to you and DH. Hoping for good news!!

  • @jennifer_louise I second @rikiteacup

my new OB was totally cool with ordering labs and SHE prescribed MH’s SA because she said “this all could be on him and your BW is secondary”. After we got the results (2% morphology with head defects) she said he could go to a urologist for a second opinion, but we skipped straight to RE once we knew our insurance allows for this with his diagnosis.

  • Awesome info @rikiteacup and @chichiphin!! You ladies are truly awesome. I think it's true what @rikiteacup said that even if it is a male problem, we ladies still take it all on! I'm a bit doubtful he would be willing to reduce caffeine or alcohol but I might be wrong. Plus, we haven't even done the test yet to know if it's a problem.

One more Q. Our FW approaches, would it be best to wait until after the FW for him to take the test? I don't wanna waste the goods....

@jennifer_louise our clinic advises 3 days without ejaculating before the test ETA: but not going more than 7 days without ejaculating

@jennifer_louise I agree with @chichiphin, we got the same recommendations. Wait after your FW to do the test. That's what we did.
Delaying by a week didn't change much for us because we got the results before the end of my LP anyways. From the results, I kind of knew it was very unlikely I would get a BFP.
ETA: I forgot to add that drugs (hard or soft) can affect fertility as well as BMI. Both for male and females. Even though society is changing, males still believe that they are fertile to the max and their lifestyle has no impact on it. Which is wrong. According to the latest studies, males from western countries are becoming more and more interfile.

Can't wait to tell them thanks for the skincare compliment because I added the Pixie Glow toner to my routine a little while ago so it is clearly doing my skin wonders ha!
