  • @wildrainbow that’s awesome news, he’s a champ! Breastfeeding can be so stressful so that’s great to hear he’s doing so well gaining weight! And way to go momma!!
  • @wildrainbow nice work mama! I haven't been posting much but I've been following along. So happy things are going well. I'm sure it's not easy.
@2MomsHoping sending you hugs. The work stress sucks and I hope you get to enjoy a fun weekend and not think about any of it.
@JWatt5 whoa. Walking is so exciting. I feel like all these stages are going to fly.
Sorry to those of you dealing with your own and baby sickness. That sounds so hard and I'm not looking forward to any of that.

AFM, can't remember when I last posted, but we just decided to go to family thanksgiving in Chicago. I pushed for or and finally DH gave in. But last night we went to a wedding and while not a total disaster it didn't go great. I stupidly went to mom and baby yoga in the morning. Which basically meabt he didn't nap all day.And then there was a fire up north, so our air quality is terrible and the wedding was outside anyway. And then we were running late (as always) and I was stressed about missing it, so I didn't feed him when we got there. Dh decided to keep him in the reception hall while i went down to the ceremony area. So I ended up chatting with people, when I could have been feeding him, then he went crazy and I had to run in and feed him, at exactly the moment the wedding happened. I managed to catch the end. Then he still wouldn't really sleep, so much going on, I finally put him in the Moby during cocktail hour. He slerps for a while. Just as dinner is starting he want s to eat. Of course. I manage to feed him as I eat. DH goes to change him. All hell breaks loose. We end up leaving just as the toasts start. Complete and utter meltdown in the car on the way home. Good times. I literally missed all the goid parts of the wedding. Clearly I should have gone by myself and left him home with DH. Ah parenthood.

  • Welcome home, Matthew! @wildrainbow
Welcome to the thread @lablover78 ❤

My mom passed away last week, suddenly and unexpectedly @"Polythene Pam" so that's what we've been up to.   :'(  BusinessBaby took her first road trip like a champ, and we have to go back again over Thanksgiving, too.  Will be nice to spend the holidays with family again like old times, but I can't say I'm looking forward to doing the trip all over again when it feels like we just got home.  We'll be pros before this is all said and done.

In other news, I have been online shopping for babys wardrobe like it's my job-ish.  :#  My mom went and spoiled her with clothes beforeshe passed, so having to exchange some sizes etc. Kind of got the ball rolling.  But anywho, it'll mostly get wrapped up for Christmas, some from her grandma she never met, and some from Santa, and she'll be a very well-dressed little girl, that's for sure!

Also, I appreciate the conversation above.  Thinking about going back full time in January, my heart just aches already. Especially more now, since this past week.  DH would be supportive if I decided to stay home, but I would sort of maybe rather do part time and keep our unicorn IF coverage, if there were a position available.  Would be much easier to arrange 20ish hours of family care than 40. :/  idk
  • @BusinessWife I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. I know how much it sucks. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. ((Hugs))
  • @BusinessWife
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom!! Especially around this time of year it must be so tough <3

    @wildrainbow
So glad to hear everything's going well at home! It'll be a nice thanksigving this year, I think :-)

    @JWatt5
Once they get started, they can't stop! I was just watching Anne on the monitor in her crib and tonight and last night, she has started to pull her legs under her to scoot/crawl a bit around the crib. O.O Only a few inches, hardly anything, but we all know where those first little steps lead...Babies just want their own freedom and independence so badly! Time to round off all the corners in your house   This time passes waaaay too fast.

  • @businesswife I’m sorry sorry about the loss of your mom. I’m glad the baby tolerated the trip well. I hope even with the hassle of traveling again being with family for thanksgiving will give you some comfort.

@gfgrump sounds like the wedding was a bit of a crazy show but that happens and it’s how we all learn.  We used to be in the go all the time and loved it but now I just crave the days where we can just stay home.

I had today off off from work for my transition and I’m so glad. Lucy has had diarrhea, a bit of congestion and generally fussy. I also woke up with a sore throat and runny nose. So we are home resting, poor little thing. It just kills me that she is uncomfortable.

I think fussiness must be catching today! Anne's still "napping" (she's really only sleeping very lightly because if I open the door of her room her head pops up!) and I'm just going to let her go until she wants to get up. If she does have some minor bug or something, she needs the rest anyway. She should be getting hungry in an hour or two though.

I've noticed that she's increasingly enjoying quiet time in her room to rest during the day. She generally goes down for naps easily now but doesn't fall asleep right away, just enjoys being quiet in her crib. It's a pleasant development!

  • Matthew is going through a growth spurt. Last night he cluster fed from 6pm to 10 p.m. It. Was. Hell. I had forgotten how awful cluster feeding really is and how draining it is on the body. On the plus side, I'm glad he's growing. Tomorrow he will be a month old. It's weird that he's going to be month old, but I've only had him home a week. He has started having pretty bad reflux, so I'm going to call his pedi to ask if it's to early for Zantac. Otherwise, he doesn't sleep well from being uncomfortable.

@BusinessWife my heart hurts for you. Grieve however you need to.

@2MomsHoping I've noticed a when the twins are congested their diapers are unhappy. I don't think snot makes their systems very happy.

I'm appealing to your wisdom ladies. We've got our bedroom routine down pat, its very rare that the twins cry when we put them to bed at night. Our daughter sleeps through the night regularly. Our son does not. I've tried everything I can think of to get him to go back to sleep in his crib at this point. Heck I've tried everything to just get him to go back to sleep and stay asleep. He isn't even staying asleep on me at this point. I've offered bottles, gas drops, tylenol/motrin (he's only got three teeth at this point, his sister has eight, it's hard for him). I think maybe he just isn't comfortable in his bed? Has anyone had success putting a blanket under the cribsheet to cushion it more. We finally got him to sleep in the playpen on a flat pillow. Very, very tired of only getting an hour and a half of sleep at a time.

  • @wildrainbow

Are you holding him upright for 20-30 min after eating? My pediatrician recommended we try that first when she had a bit of reflux. It helped a little. Luckily hers wasn't so bad but when it was still going on at around 3 months, my dad (pediatrician) recommended putting a little oatmeal cereal in her milk to thicken it a bit (1 tablespoon per 4 oz). That basically cured her of it! Matthew's probably a little young for that trick though. I'm so glad he's home with you guys!!

  • @stella_700 - Parker has been the same lately. It's been just brutal. Since begining of September he goes to bed fine but wakes up an hour or two later and then it's a fight. Last night he went to bed no problem in his crib and two hours later he was up and tired laying him down again, would scream so I put him in a pack n play in my room and he slept for a while but was up again and ended up in with me...but even then he's restless. No leap, maybe sleep regression - I don't know. He stayed at my moms a couple weeks ago and he did wake up for an hour at 11pm but went back down to bed in the pack n play. I have no suggestions but I can completely commiserate. I've even started leaving him when he wakes for atleast two mins to see if he'll go back down again, so like a light CIO out of desperation but it's not working anymore. The more upset he gets the less likely he goes right back to sleep.

  • @mbradfo2 Yeah, he stays upright on my chest after eating, and sleeps in the RNP. He projectile vomits and even upright he grunts and wiggles like he's uncomfortable. He's not a crier. He even wiggles when BF. He's so miserable. It kills me. Ds1 had reflux too, but not this early.
  • @Jwatt5 Maybe its a boy thing? Victoria sleeps like an angel (with light snoring).

They've just turned one. Anyone else seeing sleep regression problems with staying asleep at around this age, especially with boys? DH let me sleep last night in our bed all night and took the couch with our struggler. I cried in relief.
  • @stella_700 Mackenzie's has been really struggling lately too. She was a decent (once a night wake up) sleeper until this last leap and now she's up a ton still. We'll get one night of waking up once to nurse and then a bunch of nights where she's up every 1-1.5 hours. Hopefully this quickly passes!!

@BusinessWife so sorry for your loss. That must be so hard on top of being a brand new mom.  Sending you hugs.
@stella_700 I have no answers for you, but I'm so sorry.  That sounds incredibly hard.  I'm guessing at some point he will outgrow it?
@wildrainbow cluster feeding is the worst.  Hang in there mama.  Be sure to drink lots of water and have snacks on hand.
@mbradfo2 sounds like she's growing up and gaining independence. So great and a little teary at the same time.

Afm, just officially talked to my work and I'm now on leave until Feb 26.  Part of me is super happy and there's a part of me that's nervous. Like, probably a lot of the moms I've met will go back to work and maybe I'll be bored?  But, it will be nice to have the time.
We have Josey's 2 month appt today.  It was an emotional one bc DH has a lot of anxiety about the vaccinations and we ended up postponing them until Friday.  I may just take him myself.  I'm sure he'll be fine, but when you read the possible side effects, it is pretty terrifying. I've been pretty adamant that we will vaccinate our child so I'm hoping after we do it, it will be fine.  Anyway, I know this can be a hot button issue, so I'm not trying to start anything on here, it's just been extremely stressful and a point of a contention between DH and I essentially since we met 8.5 years ago.  I vacillate btw being understanding since he's generally pretty rational about it, he just grew up being indoctrinated by his dad who is a serious anti-vaxxer and who listens to an echo chamber, and being frustrated, bc now I need to go bring the baby back into the dr. office, and all that that entails. And I just wanted it over with so that I can move on.
On top of this mess, we're still dealing with terrible air from the fires and are basically stuck inside. I need to remember that a lot of people have lost everything and being a little inconvenienced by bad air pales in comparison to what others are dealing with. But, it is definitely pretty sucky and I'm getting pretty stir crazy. I feel bad about even quickly taking him outside to drive places.
Now I'm glad we're leaving on Monday for the week. Hopefully this will break soon.
@Hopeful_mom unfortunately, the wedding was such a shit show (for us, it was beautiful for others) that I didn't get a great pic, but here he is in his "tux".
Also, here's our 2 month pic. Just had to share.
One other question, did anyone else go through a phase around 9 weeks where they started taking really long afternoon naps. He's started doing like 3 hour naps in the afternoons. I'm grateful, and I brought it up to the doctor and she was all for it, just curious if this a phase or if I should be worried or anything.

Between feedings and comfort they’re shot.  She got up to feed at 4:30, didn’t get down till almost 6:45a and then bac up after 8a to feed again.  Getting ready to start cereal now that she’s finally feeling better yay!!!  I wonder if that will help her, fingers crossed!!

I'm reporting in on the sleep issue. Chase has now slept through the night for two nights in a row. I'm like a whole new human. This is the first time its happened with him. He's got kind of a wet cough going on, so I put some of the lavender baby rub on his feet and his chest (we tested a small area first). I don't know if that has helped but its the ONLY thing different I've done. He's so much happier in the morning now. I've got my smiley baby boy back! Suddenly my husband is no longer a jerkface also (I've been mean I think).  :s

Do babies have growing pains like teenagers do I wonder? He just acted so uncomfortable, even with the tylenol/motrin. He's really growing right now, those legs are getting longer.

Echoing our hope that everyone is safe with the snows and the fires. Hoping for some gentle rain showers for California to wash that smoke out of the air and renew the land.
  • @stella_700 I don't know if babies have growing pains, but do think they get fussier during growth spurts!

Add Abigail to the sleeping issues train! She is taking a lot longer to go down at night so I think we're going to start shifting her bedtime a little bit earlier. She just can't seem to get comfortable, fusses on her back and then ends up rolling over but then cries b/c she's on her stomach. She actually threw her pacifier out of the pack n play last night lol! We've been dealing with a cold so it was her waking up so stuffy (poor girl) several times, even with an elevated mattress but last night thankfully she slept through the night.

I enjoyed an additional telework day yesterday b/c of the snow. Abigail went to daycare for a few hours in the morning so i could actually get work done and it was SO weird being home without her! I don't think I liked it - although I did get a lot done, including laundry, cleaning, etc.!

Anyone have any fun plans this weekend? We are just going to bum around since the last two weekends were busy and she's still on the tail end of the cold. I think we are FINALLY going to finish getting her nursery situated and slowly start transitioning her into it and then do some fun crafts for Thanksgiving to give to grandparents. We're also going to delve into the world of baby food - eeek. I can't believe my little baby is ready to start purees!
  • @gfgrump What a cutie! He has the best skeptical face look I've ever seen on a baby, such expressive little eyebrows.

@persnickity I hope Mackenzie moves back to her good sleeping habits. Last week wasn't any fun at all.

@JWatt5 How's Parker doing? Any sleep relief?
  • Do we all have sleeping issues now? haha

Anne's been giving me super early wake-up calls no matter when she goes to bed (but it does get worse if she goes to bed earlier than 8 pm -- she conked out about 6-7 pm last night and woke up at 4 am). And only napping for bits and pieces at a time.

    @mtpbadger
The first baby food is so exciting! I had actually been sick the weekend she started solids and I woke up to my husband feeding her purees for the first time. A little disappointed not to be there at her first myself, but he misses alot of firsts with work. I've actually got addicted to the little puree pouches myself and got some for my own snacking. Healthier than cookies or crackers! I also recommend putting a smock or other large bib over her for the first couple feeds because it can get -super- messy until she learns how to manage her tongue with the solid foods. Makes clean up a bit easier.

  • @stella_700 that's so great to hear he's sleeping better!! Fingers crossed the trend continues!

Mackenzie started to do better with at least going to straight back down and only waking twice, then last night caught a bug and woke up vomiting. I think her issues are teeth related. I just saw that a bottom molar is now through! Those have been really hard on her sleep.
  • He slept the last two nights pretty well @stella_700 - he won’t sleep in his crib though. Last night I tried to hold out and nope. Haha. It’s been almost 3 months of co sleeping but I won’t CIO. He goes down in the crib fine but once he wakes...nope.

  • @aera11 we just tried baby cereal to start but also have sweet potato and peas on hand. She wasn’t too sure about it yesterday so we’ll keep trying and see how it’s goes! Her face was so funny!

  • We tried again this morning and it went a little bit better. I think she just like she chewing on the spoon! Not sure how much, if any, she actually swallowed but I know a thing this age it’s more practice than getting nutrients from it.
  • Yeah, she is learning how to use her tongue to eat -- probably pushing alot of food out of her mouth inadvertently. That's why we used smock bibs all the time -- now Anne's been eating solids regularly for almost 2 months and she's quite neat for a baby, only spills if there's too much on the spoon or she gets distracted by the dogs. I think my dad fed her without a bib last week and there was only minimal spillage onto her clothes. So, it improves with practice

We're actually going to start doing 2 meals of solids during the day soon since she does so well with it now! And my husband got her the first meat puree she'll be trying....the idea of meat puree grosses me out >.< but she's getting close to crawling and the crawling foods have some meat purees. He got one that's chicken pot pie -- so chicken and veggies. (My husband goes absolutely crazy in the baby food aisle....I never get to buy any baby food myself since he's always picking up tons when he goes to the store...)

our doctor recommended starting with some veggies first because they are going to like the sweetness of fruits easily, veggies are important to get them used to before you give them sweets -- we did some green beans, carrots, peas. Gerber sells little packages that have a variety of fruits or veggies (the fruit ones is called 'First Fruits' so I'm assuming the veggie one has a similar name). We also gave her bananas, apples, pears, squash and sweet potatoes. The major thing is making sure you're only introducing one food at a time in case there is a reaction. Once she gets more used to solids and starts sitting well, you can move onto the mixes. We had been doing cereal in her formula for awhile so I never actually tried out straight cereal on her! We did start using banana-flavored cereal in her morning bottle because who doesn't like bananas at breakfast?

A mom in our area found MOLD in her daughter's food pouches from Sprout, so I've mostly avoided that brand (mostly because the picture she shared was super gross and I can't unsee it now). We like gerber, Plum organics, earth's best. They're all about the same, I think. There are some refrigerated cold pressed foods like Once Upon a Farm, but those are mostly for more experienced eaters 6 mo +.

    And yes, all the poops....

It does a take a bit for them to get used to the solid foods too....I know it took Anne a week or so of having them regularly for her to really grasp 'these are yummy' and 'this is food too, not just milk'.  Now she wants to try everything!! We went out to a nice restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner today and she was getting a little grumbly (and I forgot to pack a pouch...) so I gave her some of my butternut squash soup (cooled). She loved it! The waiter got her a little bowl of her own; she didn't eat much of it but it seemed like a special moment sharing a meal with her. I figure at thanksgiving we can give her some jelled cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes to enjoy!

  • @mtpbadger haha same for us! I mix the cereal with breast milk & some sweet potato or pear; mixing seemed to go better for us. Their faces are hilarious! We need a photo thread  :) I'd leave the spoon in her mouth & then she'd swallow...it's still a slow process haha

@Hopeful_mom we're doing rice cereal & then I've made sweet potato, pear, apples & bananas.  So far we've only tried the first two. So glad baby is taking to the food! And I agree about the poop; I feel like she's working harder to get it out too
