Maternity Clothes!

Re: Maternity Clothes!

  • Side-note about belly bands: Even when not pregnant I have definitely been using mine as "modesty panels" around my boobs under low-cut shirts and dresses, so for me, they have had a purposeful use beyond pregnancy.

  • @brie_and_almonds I used mine post-partum to cover my belly while breastfeeding if I wasn't wearing a "nursing shirt"
  • This is definitely an unpopular opinion but the belly bands did not really work for me. I felt like it looked frumpy because my shirts did not really work with them. I switched to maternity pants already because it actually works better with my style and what is work appropriate for me.
  • Appreciate all the recommendations! @DuchessOfCambridge, @optbaby2017. Probably going to check out Target this weekend. I like their clothes in general so that bodes well.

@brie_and_almonds one of my friends has been wearing hers basically since she had her second baby three years ago. So hopefully I can get lots of use out of mine if I find ones that work!

Trying to hold off on buying too many new things just yet.
  • I never bought a belly band per say, but I got a pack of those "as seen on TV" shirt extender things.. They went over a bit of my belly and covered my pants and looked like the bottom of a tank top.
  • I just bit the bullet to try a subscription to Le Tote. I have some major meetings/events with some $5 million + potential donors coming up and I just can't get away with leggings and tunics all the time, I need a few key pieces that are dressier. I've never done a subscription, so FX I don't hate the stuff!

  • @bluesky24 RTR also has an "unlimited" choice, where you can switch up to 4 items out as much as you want in one month. I did this for my wedding so I could try different sizes and styles. At the time I joined, it was $100 for the month (no cost for each item-just the flat fee). I started it about 2.5 weeks before the event to make sure I had time to try things, switch them out, and have enough time to return stuff after the wedding.
  • Being a plus size woman with REALLY unique tastes in fashion has been ... interesting in the maternity department. I've basically just gone out and gotten several sweater dressed 2 sizes too big and some leggings. Maternity leggings are hard to find when you're already big though so ... we'll see how that goes as I get further along. Mostly I'm just suffering from the bloat-bump still.

  • @brie_and_almonds that’s genius!!!!! I’ll be pulling out my belly bands for that trick from now on!
  • I am almost too embarrassed to post this due to the cost, but I bought a pair of Ingrid & Isabel leggings from Gap when they were having a sale and they are REALLY good.  Not at all see-through, they’re workout leggings as opposed to leggings you need to layer and can’t wear as pants, flattering compression, etc etc etc.  The problem is they’re $85.  Posting this bc Gap has constant deals (I got them half off + a random $ amount off + I used ebates which had 6% cash back at the time) and I know Black Friday is coming.

I got decent leggings for under $25 at Target my last pregnancy, but had to try on a million pairs of varying quality before I found the right ones.  This time I’m too busy/lazy to drag myself to a real store, so here we are.
  • Has anyone bought maternity jeans from old navy? Any comments about them?

  • @missy052819 no, but I've bought them from Gap. They're okay but I kind of prefer the one's I've gotten from Macy's (Indigo Blue brand). The Gap family of brands can get down to great prices, though, so I have some. They're alright, but not my go-tos from last pregnancy (or so far this pregnancy). I don't think I have any of theirs that are the side panel, either, all full panel.

  • I was looking online to OldNavy and they have some very cute pieces and there is a 20% off on orders too. Saw a very cute winter coat for $36!! unfortunatley they run out of my size but hoping they will restock or have something similar soon.
