Ultrasound at 6 weeks??

What did you see at your 6 week ultrasound? I did not have a LMP, because I had a miscarriage, so my doctor is unsure of my due date. Based off my miscarriage, when I would have ovulated, and when I think I had implantation bleeding, I will be 6 weeks Thursday, which is when I am having a vaginal US. What did you see at yours? 2 prior miscarriages since June, but i have a 1.5 YO daughter.

Re: Ultrasound at 6 weeks??

  • I have never actually gotten on US that early. I have one at 7 weeks (Nov. 19th) to check viability and location. I had one at 8 weeks (sadly that was a loss) and was able to hear the heartbeat, see a solid baby outline.

  • I'm so sorry to hear that. I keep telling myself everything will be fine as long as there is a heartbeat, but unfortunately that's not the reality.

@nagrom9319 No sadly it is not, and I don't bring it up to be a downer. For me, I can't look at those "risk decreases blah blah blah" charts that "ease your mind" because they do not ease my mind. I have had at least 2 losses that start within days of appointments where we saw/heard the heartbeat. Things were fine at the appointment, but something went wrong later, and most times I did not find that out for another 3-4 weeks.

ETS: For MOST women, like 75-80% or better those charts are accurate, and once you see/hear the heartbeat you are GOOD. That just didn't happen for me.
  • We have similar situations, I also had a miscarriage last cycle and am getting an ultrasound soon. Two losses since June.
  • Lurking from May:  I had an ultrasound this time at 6 weeks exactly and they were able to see/hear a heartbeat, yolk sac, and fetal pole. With my last pregnancy, I had an ultrasound at 5w4d where they were able to see the yolk sacs and fetal poles but had me come back the next week (6w4d) where we heard both twins’ heartbeats.

These were at high-tech MFM offices so they may have had more sophisticated ultrasound technology, so I wouldn’t worry if they won’t even try to hear a heartbeat.
  • I have an appointment on Friday but I don't think I'll get an ultrasound.

@indulgentgypsy @nagrom9319  PGAL sucks and totally takes the innocence out of pregnancy. I also had a loss at 12 weeks and saw/heard the heartbeat at 8 weeks. Those charts and stats may be comforting for some, but they mean absolutely nothing to me now.
  • I had an ultrasound today at 6w1d and the heartrate was 121.  Tech said that was great.
  • I had my ultrasound today and saw the heart beat! I measured at 5weeks6days.  Because of compilations in the past with previous pregnancy's I will see my dr. twice a week for ultrasounds my first trimester.  Very thankful to see the heart beat but go back on Monday and hopefully we will hear it.
  • I also had an ultrasound today at 5w6d and we were able to see the heart beat at 117, so I think you are totally fine @nagrom9319.  I have another u/s on Wednesday.
  • @nagrom9319, I feel like saying "that is a bit low, I would like see you back", is not at all comforting (if that was her intent).  I would read that as "that is fairly normal, but I can make an extra $500 on that second u/s"....

  • Having ultrasound 11/19 I’ll be 6 weeks 2 days. Hoping to see a little heat beat 🤞🏼
  • With my first pregnancy they didn’t know if I was 6 weeks or 10 weeks, so I had the US right away. Turns out I was about 6 weeks along. Got to see the yolk sac and hear the heartbeat. It’s amazing when you see/hear it. That’s my favorite part. I work at an imaging facility and I wish my US tech and I had a better relationship: I would ask her to scan the baby all the time!
  • @nagrom9319 a FHR of 120 at 6 weeks is absolutely normal, and I would actually argue it's on the high range of normal.  Typically at that stage it's between 90-110 BPM.  I'm really side-eyeing your doctor, and I probably wouldn't continue to see that person as I don't think I could trust their medical advice. That may sound harsh but I wouldn't want a doctor who didn't know what a normal FHR should be and that gave you unnecessary anxiety. There are plenty of ways to get insurance to cover extra ultrasounds without lying to you.

  • Had my US today at 6w3d and the FHR was 120, which the doc said was great. My DD's FHR was 125 at this time. Odd that your doctor thought it was low! I was just hoping for anything over 100.

  • We had our first US today! Saw and heard the heartbeat at 114bpm (6w1d) and they said it was perfect. It looked like a grainy diamond ring lol
