Re: Weekly Randoms 10/29

  • @megsb615 we also had a wooden swing set and it got tons of use from toddler through middle school. My parents finally sold it when I (the youngest) was in high school

  • @aels12 I’ll have to look into getting one for him. Most I’ve seen are pretty expensive, but it does seem like it’d be a good investment for kids.
  • @megsb615 I see then all the time listed on marketplace/craigslist for good prices, they usually just need a new coat of stain and that’s it. Might be worth looking, although you’ll probably have better luck in the spring (unless it’s nice year round where you are!)
  • @aels12 Thats a good idea! I might have some luck finding one now since it hasn’t started to get cold yet. Thanks!
  • @megsb615 if your DH is handy at all, I would recommend researching building your own vs. buying a kit too.  We went back and forth and ended up building our own with the help of an Ana White plan that my dad heavily tweaked.  Most of the reviews we had read said it took the better part of two days for ppl to set up the prefab kits.  We had DH, my brother and my dad at our disposal and all are familiar with power tools and basic carpentry.  They all agreed they'd rather cut boards as needed rather than try to piece together a puzzle of pieces with likely a shotty instruction booklet.  It took them 2 days of hard work, but we ended up with an awesome play structure that was far sturdier than a prefab and cost about $500 (CDN) less than a comparable store model.

  • @chloe97 I would definitely apply!!  It will probably be tough in April but after the baby is born you will get to do an awesome new job.
  • @mcewen3 He’s handy and good at fixing things, but not necessarily crafty. He’s made a birdhouse before, but I think a swing set might be more than he’s bargaining for 😂 He’d probably not be extremely thrilled even having to put one together actually ha ha

@expandcontract What is bubble tea..? I’ve never heard of it.

@eatinwatermelonseeds I would definitely cry over the dog eating my sandwich. Food is everything these days.
  • @expandcontract Sounds refreshing!
  • And now I need some but the closest place for me is inside the mall and I'd have to do some walking.  Hmmmmmm. Decisions.

  • Seeing people post their boy/girl results has me so excited to find out what we’re having. People keep asking if I’m hoping for a girl, and I’m really not (though I somewhat have a feeling it might be). I’ll be happy with whichever we get. Cliche, but I just want a healthy baby. I’m not going to lie though, I’m really ready to know what baby #2 is so I can start buying cute personalized baby things 😂 It’s going to be a long month!
  • @megsb615 I will be so excited with either, but I'm thinking it's a girl over here too. My son really wants a brother though 😩
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds Aw, buddy! I’m sure he’ll be excited when he/she gets here regardless. DS being 2 doesn’t seem to really get it or care, so I’m hoping he’ll be more excited and not completely jealous once baby #2 gets here. 😬
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds Oh my heart! That’s  so sweet, and that sounds so fun to share that excitement with him. He sounds like he’s going to be such a good big brother!
  • Just did a genetic counseling class and waiting for the NIPT blood draw. The genetic counselor kept saying gender and not sex of the baby. It annoyed me. Thought a medical professional would use the correct term. Maybe she uses gender because most people tend to use that.

  • @mrskoz428 I’ve felt the same lately. Good luck and keep us posted!

@megsb615 oh, I will. Everything look perfect last week so I’m really not expecting it to be different, especially with genetic results coming back so low risk, but because it’s just a Doppler reading, I’m more nervous than usual.

ETA: @SpaceBurger I am so the same way! Someone said Arby’s about a month back and I immediately needed Arby’s!

  • @mrskoz428 Solidarity. My appt is in a little over an hour. I'm mostly thinking it will be standard and fine but then I panic. *TW* one of my schoolagers was in tears this morning and her friend said she was sad because "her brother died in her mommy's tummy" *end TW*. I didn't make it about me (she doesn't even know I'm pregnant) but it made me feel sick. I just really need to hear that little heartbeat.

  • Good luck everyone with appointments today!

  • @imrachellea my appointment check in is at 1:45 (so about 50 minutes). Praying healthy prayers for you (and that poor sweet child).

  • @imrachellea *TW* when we had our loss DD2 told a lot of people even strangers that the baby in her mommy’s tummy died. Even months later. Ugh it was heartbreaking. *End TW* I feel for your student. Poor girl!

  • @robyn2201 This is exactly why we haven't told our girls about the baby yet. If something were to happen it would be hard enough, I don't want to have to explain that to my girls.

  • Good luck to everyone at their appointments,  today!!

@SpaceBurger hmmm suddenly I realize I can have a lot of power of you,  internet stranger! Lol. J/K  Bubble tea FTW, though!

@imrachellea that poor girl! That's too much stress for someone that young! I agree,  if my daughter could understand,  I wouldn't tell her until I was well in the safe zone or until I couldn't hide it anymore.

  • @megsb615 waiting is the hardest, good luck! Everyone was asking us if we're hoping for a boy (because we already have a girl) and interestingly it was only non-parents asking us that, because I think everyone else knows that a healthy baby is the most important thing above all else.

And now that we know we're having another girl, people are now asking if we're going to try again for a boy. I can't with some people.

  • @peachy13 it never ends! That's got to be so annoying.
Anytime my mom, MIL, or any of the few people who know im pregnant talk about how I should have a boy,  I'm getting super pissed off. Especially, because of all the complications they know Im having.  I truly,  honestly,  do not care what the sex of this baby is.  I just want it to be healthy and stay put as long as possible. That is seriously,  the only thing on my mind.

  • @peachy13 it starts early doesn't it?! I wish I could say it gets better....

  • @nopegoat omg I'm sure you get it all the time! I've just started telling people that we're only have two kids and are thrilled that DD is going to have a little sister.

Unrelated but I know I've mentioned this a few times that my friend's baby shower is on Sunday and her family/friends suck at gift giving, based on what I saw from her wedding. I knew the registry was going to be left unfulfilled and sure enough I just checked, and it's horrible. It's like 20% complete with 2 days to go. I got her the boppy and all boppy accessories, plus a few other little essential things. The monitor is complete, thankfully, but the small amount of other things that have been purchased are things like blankets, stuffed animals, and nursery decor. My friend is due next month and also doesn't live around family/friends, so I just feel so bad that she is going to go home after this shower and basically have to fend for herself buying stuff like a carseat, stroller, bathtub, infant swing... stuff you kind of DO want to have all ready before you head out to give birth. I know the point of having a baby isn't to get all this stuff for free, but it just kind of sucks because I know her guests are going to be showing up with offregistry stuff, probably a bunch of blankets, bouquets of flowers, etc. Yeah it's nice but I'd rather have the stuff like a humidifier and butt thermometer.

  • Everyone keeps asking if we are wanting a boy this time around because we have two girls. It drives me crazy. I’m sure boys are wonderful but it’s been awesome being a girl mom and no we did not have another just to get a boy.

  • @peachy13 you are seriously such a good friend! She's lucky to have you.

  • @peachy13 So annoying. My coworker who has 2 boys herself has asked me if we would try for a girl if this one is another boy, and it’s like.. noo, I would expect you of all people understand that. 🤦🏼‍♀️
  • @megsb615 maybe this is a FFFC but we're planning on 3 kids, with one girl already. If DH was down for it, I'd be open to 4, especially if we have 3 girls first. I wouldn't mind 4 girls but would love to raise at least one of each. I've always been open to 4 though and can't really say how I'd feel unless I'm actually in this situation. Regardless, it's weird/rude for people to ask/make comments or assumptions about wanting one of each.

  • @peachy13 Maybe people are buying gift cards towards those items? We didn't have a shower (long story having to do with extreme superstition on the part of DH and his family and my depression) and we didn't get a lot of stuff off our registry, but we got a TON of gift cards that we were able to use towards the things we needed. We also got gifts for weeks and weeks after DD was born. A lot of the stuff, we really didn't need right away- crib bedding, the swing, etc. Plus, I feel like people prefer to buy baby clothes- ESPECIALLY if it's a girl- even though that is usually the things parents need the least since hand me downs are easy to come across.
