Pregnant after IF

First trimester check-in: week of 29 October

It was so nice to hear from others who are edging hopefully forward in the first trimester last week, so I thought I’d push on into Halloween week for an update. Questions below:

How far along are you/ EDD?

How is everyone feeling?

Any upcoming appointments?

Any thoughts/questions/concerns?

GTKY: Are you planning on finding out the baby’s sex? If so, what next? Will you share or have a little secret between you and your partner ahead of bubs being born?

Re: First trimester check-in: week of 29 October

  • And here are my answers to kick us off:

How far along are you/ EDD?

I’m 8w2d today. Due date of 9 June.

    How is everyone feeling?

I’ve been feeling pretty good, although the nausea has arrived and is hanging out with its best mate fatigue. Have rediscovered naps on the weekend and am taking advantage of working from home where I can.

    Any upcoming appointments?

Had our 8 week scan yesterday. Was so great to see the little lump in there. Great heartbeat and we saw its head wiggle! Incredible. We’re now graduated from my fertility specialist and it’ll be much more hands off. Feeling relieved and nervous. Seeing my primary care doctor on Friday where I’ll get referrals for the 12 week scan and NIPT.

    Any thoughts/questions/concerns?

Feeling pretty good. Am about to go on a three week trip for work, so am debating whether to get the NIPT blood draw whilst away or to wait until I’m back. It probably doesn’t matter much one way or another.

GTKY: Are you planning on finding out the baby’s sex? If so, what next? Will you share or have a little secret between you and your partner ahead of bubs being born?

We’re definitely finding out and I think we’ll share. I was certain we’d share before I got pregnant but now I’m wondering if it is a nice secret for us to have for a few months!?

Hope you are all doing really really well.

How far along are you/ EDD? 6+2, 6/23

How is everyone feeling? Famished or nauseous and sometimes both. My nausea seems to abate by early afternoon, but I’m having a really hard time working in the mornings.

Any upcoming appointments? U/s tomorrow to hear the heartbeat (hopefully)! I’m still so nervous that something will go wrong.

    Any thoughts/questions/concerns? Nope!

GTKY: Are you planning on finding out the baby’s sex? If so, what next? Will you share or have a little secret between you and your partner ahead of bubs being born?

Soooo it turns out DH and I are not on the same page. I adamantly do not want to know, but apparently he wanted to find out at an u/s—I said our RE could tell us because we did PGS testing, but he wants to be “like normal couples.” I think I’ll win this battle.

ETA @hildy11 Oh that is so wonderful about your u/s! I’m glad everything is going so well!!

How is everyone feeling? Nausea seemed to be starting this week but the last 2 days have actually been pretty good. Hoping that continues!

Any upcoming appointments? next U/S tomorrow which will be the last with our RE. Hopefully we will see the heartbeat.

Any thoughts/questions/concerns? - no concerns at this point.

GTKY: Are you planning on finding out the baby’s sex? If so, what next? Will you share or have a little secret between you and your partner ahead of bubs being born?
-we already know... we had our RE tell us last week after we knew it worked so we are having a girl. We bought these little gender reveal cards for family. They are scratchers that say "try again" under the boy & "it's a girl!" under the girl. In the middle of the card it says Baby Griffin arriving June 2019. We are going to give them to all of our family at Thanksgiving since we will all be together.

@hildy11 - it's always so interesting to me to see how long some RE's keep patients. I feel like mine passes us along so quickly. I'm glad your scan went well!

  • @Bababatty how’d your scan go?

@Griffin5413 what week does your RE discharge you? Mine keeps us through 9w.

***TW***Thankful since I did have a MMC at 8w3d; also I bought an IVF package that allowed me to do unlimited FET until viable 12w pg.

  • @Griffith5413, yes, I felt like we were really out the door pretty quickly, but I also understand why. I think with most people they’re out the door after the 6w scan that shows a heartbeat 😕. So we got a bit of special treatment with the 8w scan.  Also, that’s so cool you can find out so early in the US. In Australia (where I am), it’s illegal to tell us due to fears of sex selection. How exciting! A girl! How did the scan go?

@Bababatty I hope the u/s went well. Good luck with the battle on discovering the sex. I admire your resolve. I could never wait!

  • @Griffin5413
My RE discharged me at 10 weeks but he normally does 8 weeks. He just kept me to 10 w because of my prior MMC at 8 weeks (I got additional scans). He chose 10 weeks because he said 10 weeks w/ a viable fetus had 95+ percent chance of live birth so he didn't want to release me until he felt confident that everything would work out well. I think it really does depend on the RE. I always felt like I was his only patient when I was going through my cycles since it was a really intimate, small clinic where you got to know everyone.

  • @northbeach3 - we will be discharged today after the scan which is 6 weeks 6 days I would imagine as long as they see the heartbeat.  That's awesome that they have an option of unlimited until viable!

    @hildy11
     - we did genetic testing on the embryos and all of the contracts we signed said that they were using the best quality egg w/o knowing the gender. We could have picked if we had wanted but we didn't want to pick the gender. I think knowing going in, we would have had our hopes up even more and if it hadn't worked We just had them tell us once we knew it worked. My scan is this afternoon so hopefully all is well. My parents are in town so my mom is going come with us. She is really excited.

mbradfo2 - I think it's so nice that your clinic feels so intimate. It's such a hard thing for people to go through that it helps the process when your office gets that.

  • Thanks for checking in on me, all! My scan on Wednesday was great! We heard the heartbeat, which...wow. I can’t believe that someone so small can sound so strong. We are also at a small practice (actually it’s a satellite clinic), so my experience has been much like @mbradfo2’s. My RE will see me one more time at 8w4d, but his office will monitor my hormones until 12 weeks as I wean off the PIO and estrogen. I’ll start seeing my OB actually 2 days after my last u/s appointment with my RE, so there’s some overlap.

I had a very small amount of spotting today which has me nervous, although my nurse talked me off the ledge.

@Griffin5413 How did your scan go??

@Hildy11 I’ve known from a young age that I’d want to be surprised by the sex, so not too hard for me. :-) My biggest worry with PGS was that they would HAVE to tell us the sex, but the counselor assured me they only do if requested. We ended up with two normies, and my RE asked before this transfer if we had a sex preference, which makes me think we have one of each. Not that I know which one this one is. :-)

@northbeach3 It’s nice that you can stay with your clinic for the entire first trimester!

@mbradfo2 I’m glad you’re having such a good RE clinic experience and they’re so invested in your outcome!
  • *lurking* @Bababatty so great to see you here! I remember your story from TTTC. Congratulations!

  • Hey guys - can I join? A quick intro: I’m a 38 year old who has been pregnant more times than I remember. I have a 4 year old and a son who died when he was 2.5. After 2 rounds of IVF with no viable embryos, we went one month of NTNP while we thought about next steps. And here I am with decent betas. I’m super nervous and not sure I’ll be around long. But thought I might join anyway.

How far along are you/ EDD? 5w, 7/6

How is everyone feeling? Up and down. Symptoms but nothing awful yet.

Any upcoming appointments? I’ll have an u/s on Friday... and it’s gonna be an eternity getting there.

    Any thoughts/questions/concerns? Just the usual.

GTKY: Are you planning on finding out the baby’s sex? If so, what next? Will you share or have a little secret between you and your partner ahead of bubs being born? We will find out with MT21 testing and tell people eventually. Haven’t really thought that far ahead yet.

  • How far along are you/ EDD? 12 + 4./ 5/15

How is everyone feeling? Feeling okay- still nervous although last appt went well.

Any upcoming appointments?  Not for another 3 weeks.

Any thoughts/questions/concerns? It’s so hard to go from having an appt/ultrasound every week to an appt every 4 weeks.  I am going through withdrawal- and doesn’t help with my anxiety.

GTKY: Are you planning on finding out the baby’s sex? If so, what next? Will you share or have a little secret between you and your partner ahead of bubs being born?  We found out with PGS testing- we ended up with 2 normies and both were male.  We have shared.
  • @bpietronicco
How exciting to already know it's a little boy!

When was your last ultrasound? Last week? It is -really- rough going through those 4 weeks between appts, esp. when you've gotten used to seeing baby almost weekly at the RE's office. Maybe you could talk to your doctor and see if they could give you some extra ultrasounds until you can feel movement just for your peace of mind? I got the home doppler to keep me sane between appts after we went over to the regular OB, but I know that's not something that will work for everyone.

Hopefully this time of year will keep you busy and not overthinking things too much! I can't say your anxiety will ever really go away until you are holding your baby, but some days will be better than others. I tried to keep busy with work and hobbies so I didn't go crazy....but I was still saying 'well, we'll see what happens' in regard to the baby at 35 weeks!

  • @mbradfo2 my u/s was this past Tuesday at 11+6 and everything looked great.  My SCH was gone and he was measuring on track with heart rate of 149.  My insurance doesn’t cover a lot of ultrasounds unless medically necessary but my dr did say I could schedule an earlier appt to get checked with the Doppler if I got worried.  I am trying to stay positive that all is good, but definitely hard to go from weekly to monthly. I am sure I will be the same as you until the birth.
  • @Bababatty  - scan went really well on Friday. We didn't hear the heartbeat but we could definitely see it. he measured it at 130bpm. I just love seeing that little flicker on the screen! My parents were in town this week so we told them and let them come to the appointment with us. They live in another state and my mom missed so much of my first pregnancy that it was neat for them to get to go.
Happyin14  - welcome! So happy to have you here. Wishing you a healthy uneventful 9 months!

Had a bleeding scare this weekend. Saturday evening, I went to the bathroom and it was like I was starting my period. I pretty much freaked out. Called the on call nurse (bc of course any scare always happens during non office hours) and she talked me off the ledge as well. Said as long as I wasn't bleeding enough to fill a pad every hour than it was probably just irritation from the ultrasound and I didn't need to be seen. It has since almost completely stopped, just very minor spotting every so often. I didn't have any bleeding with my son so I'm still really nervous. But I know each pregnancy is different and I had a c-section last time so that might make things different this time around too.

  • @Griffin5413, that’s the scariest. I’m sorry. I did have spotting with DS2. Enough to assume a m/c before my OB confirmed it wasn’t that. There are so many reasons for it and most are fine. But the WORST to see.
