Bleach and pregnancy

I was washing my hands using some soap in the dispenser near our sink and I swore it smelled like bleach, so I pulled the plunger out of the container and took a couple big whiffs and yep, definitely bleach. Now I'm concerned that I washed my hands with it several times as well as took some big sniffs. Should I be worried? Baby is still moving around like crazy and I have an appointment tomorrow with my OB but paranoid mom has taken over.

Re: Bleach and pregnancy

  • I would not worry about it. Unless you were sticking your nose in it or in a non-ventilated area with lots of bleach for an extended period of time, you should be fine.

  • Thanks. My anxiety and OCD has been insane with this pregnancy and I question just about everything that I do. It's been a very stressful pregnancy from the beginning with severe morning sickness, then several bleeds from placenta previa so I've been terrified about all the things that could possibly go wrong and want to be sure I'm not doing anything that can harm my son.
  • @missilaneous82 :o how does bleach get into a soap dispenser?  :o
I think you should be fine (although definitely confirm with a doctor). Breathing in bleach isn't great, obviously, but I am fairly certain it can't make its way to baby. It's more likely to burn your lungs, but it sounds like you're fine..

  • @ab_canada I was questioning that myself, then realized that we have a hot tub and my husband pulled the plunger out, as the dispenser was almost empty, to wash his hands after putting chlorine in the hot tub.
