Oh man, I don't know - I graduated high school in 2003, I don't think we had a theme song. But, the big songs when I started college that fall (GO GAUCHOS) were Hey Ya by Outkast and Yeah by Usher, they always remind me of that time.
DD born PPROM preemie at 36 weeks on 10/1/17 after over a year TI, then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.
Due with #2 5/2/19 after HIO once in my FW, because apparently that's how life works now. Team Blue!
@mrsdee15 I would also say Yeah by Usher for being a popular song that year (class of '04)
However, I am pretty proud to admit that my class was kind of an enigma in that we all bonded over classic rock. Like, 70s classic rock (Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Steve Miller Band, Skynyrd, etc.). Obsessed. Our whole prom playlist was this stuff.

@mrsdee15, oh my gosh, both of those were HUGELY popular for my class too (2004)! Those bring back so many memories. Our student council made the class of 2004 a mixed CD and we actually ended up having several 90s country songs and such on there (Fishin' in the Dark, Check Yes or No); we are in GA afterall lol. But both Hey Ya and Yeah are on it. Oh my gosh, I really want to find that now.
I was on student council senior year (2005) and I don’t even remember. I don’t think we had a prom theme song, though. TBH high school was not my favorite time of my life. I’d much rather reminisce about college. My BFF and I used to belt out The Reason by Hoobastank when we were driving in the car senior year, though!
@poshspice yes. I would NEVER refer to high school as the best years of my life. And a few years after were pretty rocky too. I believe I'm in the best years of my life. I've always wanted to be a wife and have kids, and now I'm going to be in a career I love. I wish I'd gotten here sooner (career wise) but it's here. High school sucked, this is why I stuck it out.
I totally cannot remember our theme for prom- it was probably something like oh what a night- 1997. I will have to see if I can pull out an old yearbook or something. Our senior song was Green Day’s good riddance.
@poshspice@eatinwatermelonseeds I 100% agree that high school was nowhere near the best years of my life... or even enjoyable most of the time. I was depressed for no reason and so uncomfortable in my own skin, and for half of it I was in a bad first-relationship where we sucked at communicating with each other and my friends mostly hated him... and then after years we just stopped talking at the end. Didn't really formally "break up" until a couple of months later when I wanted to date someone else.
Not even close to the best years of my life. I often tell my students that high school sucks pretty badly, but life gets better. I am much happier now than I ever was in high school.
As for prom... I didn't go to either of my proms (even though I was in above bad relationship for the first one) ... I think one of the themes was Night At the Roxbury though. No idea about songs.
I never made it to prom or senior year. But nothing screams i think it was 2009 more to me then MCR black parade.

@ibanezstarburst I agree that it was very overplayed at the time, but man, that song makes me cry every single time I hear it, even now. I think it make the perfect Father Daughter dance song. I wish there was a Mother Daughter dance at a wedding, bc that would be my song to my DD.
@poshspice Oh man, Hoobastank floods my HS memories too. It was my HS boyfriend's favorite band. We were so in love (lol) and I listened to them all the time.
1999/2000 Our theme was secret garden, so I think it was the same song, by Bruce Springsteen. Which is funny because the song was from 1995. Our graduation songs were Vitamin C and Pearl Jam (Elderly Woman behind the Counter in a small town).
Re: GTKY Prom Theme Song
DS1 is 7. DD is 1. DS2 is coming in late April.
I never even heard of Rusted Root. Going to look this up...
