Pregnant after IF

First trimester check in - w/o 22 October

Hi all,

Just come across this forum recently and would love to connect with others in their first trimester after infertility.

I figure better that we start this group even if it’s very late in the week.

Questions below!

How far along are you/ EDD?

How is everyone feeling?

Any upcoming appointments?

Any thoughts/questions/concerns?

GTKY: How/when are you telling people you’re pregnant? (Sorry if you’ve already done this one, I’m new here!)

Re: First trimester check in - w/o 22 October

  • So here are my answers to kick us off:

    How far along are you/ EDD:

    7w6d, EDD: 9 June

    How is everyone feeling?

    Feeling a bit nauseous, but mainly exhausted. And of course, the sore boobs!

    Any upcoming appointments?

    Going in for my final scan with my fertility specialist on Monday. I’ll be 8w1d.

    Any thoughts/questions/concerns?

    *TW* I’m still feeling a bit anxious/worried after a small bleed last weekend. Scan immediately afterwards at the ER showed the little embryo still in the right spot and right size with a heartbeat, but am desperate for the reassurance from a proper scan on Monday.

    GTKY: When/how are you telling people?

    We’ve been really open about the process and the early pregnancy. I go in circles about whether this has been the right approach. But for now I’m feeling good, even with the little scare along the way.
  • Loading the player...
  • How far along are you/ EDD?  11+ 4

    How is everyone feeling? Feeling okay- nauseous on and off- terrible headache from weaning of the progesterone

    Any upcoming appointments?  Tuesday- u/s to check on my SCH and glucose test

    Any thoughts/questions/concerns? Just hopeful everything is still good and that he is growing still.

    GTKY: How/when are you telling people you’re pregnant? We have told people from the beginning throughout our IF journey.
  • @Bababatty. Congratulations!!!!  So happy to see you posting on the other side!  Try not to worry, you'll have plenty of time.  We actually got our doula some time in 2nd Tri... only to have her back out. :/  We still found someone to work with us pretty last minute, and I really believe she was the support person meant to be there.  You'll be fine! :)

    @hildy11 Thank you for starting this! First, congratulations! I really admire your honesty - I feel like no one ever talks about IF and it’s been a lonely road which felt so much more supported by women willing to share their journey. So exciting that you got to see the little heartbeat! FX for Monday!

    @Bababatty hello, again! Love the updates - you must be so exciting for Wednesday <3

    @bpietronicco <3 home stretch to graduating 1st Tri! Hoping your appt on Tuesday goes well - it seems so early for a glucose test but it's better to be safe

    How far along are you/ EDD? 5w3d

    How is everyone feeling? Nervous

    Any upcoming appointments? First ultrasound on 11/1

    Any thoughts/questions/concerns? Anyone working out? I’ve been trying to alleviate some of this nervous energy with meditation and walks but am so dearly missing swimming.
    @Bababatty you’re so far ahead of me - I haven’t even thought past graduating from my RE. I may try to convince him to continue my care!

    GTKY: How/when are you telling people you’re pregnant? Not sure yet. Still kind of getting used to the news myself.
  • Nice to see some new faces over here :smile:
    @hildy11
    Was it some spotting or fresh red bleed? I'm guessing all looked well on the u/s but there's always the possibility of a SCH which caused the bleeding. Generally my RE is not phased by any bleeding if the sac looks good and intact so unless they were concerned at your ER scan, I think it's probably nothing to get worried about. Good luck at your next scan!
    @Bababatty
    Glad to see you posting on this side -- we're not -that- scary and we all understand the nerves that go along with this whole process. Exhaustion was one of my major first trimester symptoms as welll.....well, let's be honest, I was tired the whole pregnancy! Get your sleep!
    @bpietronicco
    Almost of the 1st trimester now! Exciting - and scary, I'm sure! Just keep at it one day at a time. Have you thought about a home doppler for peace of mind inbetween appointments? I know it helped me alot, but everyone is different. You're getting to the point where you should be able to find the HB fairly easily -- usually around 12 or 13 weeks. Good luck on your glucose test! Those things suck. I failed my 1 hr and had to do the 3 hr one at 28 weeks >.<
    @autumnlvs
    Welcome!  Good luck on your first u/s. Are you feeling well in general? Everyone's symptoms vary so much! I didn't start feeling sick until 6 to 7 weeks. Does your RE want you to avoid physical exertion like swimming? I used use my RE's advice to get out of doing household chores lol. I also wish we could stay with our RE's forever!!! It was so hard to transition to the regular OB's office, even though I know my OB very well.

    We didn't tell anyone other than my immediate family (parents and sister) prior to our official announcement at around 14 weeks. Even then I still felt nervous about sharing the news...we just get so used to disappointment.

    FX for everyone's upcoming appts and scans!!!

  • @mbradfo2 thank you for checking in :smiley: feeling a little fatigued, a little nauseated but I think the all the supplemental hormones make me feel that way in general. RE just replied back saying yoga, elliptical with HR < 120 in addition to walking were ok but to hold off on swimming (I'm guessing to prevent infection) although your Irma story makes walking sound pretty dangerous!

  • @BusinessWife!! First, I think some congratulations are in order!!  <3<3<3 Also thank you for calming me down. :-) This weekend I did almost nothing pregnancy planning related and I feel more relaxed. Can I ask how you found your doulas? I don’t even know where to start anyway, although i’ll definitely ask my OB. Also, I’m sorry your first doula put you through so much stress! But really glad your second was meant to be.

    @autumnlvs Yay!! I’m so glad you’re here now! I actually asked my nurse on Friday about exercise and she said my RE is very conservative, so nothing until we hear the heartbeat. I have started walking at my normal city pace, and yesterday I did have to power walk for a ferry, but I just make sure I’m not breathing too heavily and that I can still talk.

    And believe me, on Wednesday I plan to beg my RE to be my OB, even though I know he can’t.  :D

    @mbradfo2 Hello!! Haha, I am all about the sleep. I think I’m going to move my PIO time down because right now I’m falling asleep on the couch and then walking up 30 minutes later for the shot. Saturday I got 11 hours—no shame!

    @bpietronicco I’m so happy to hear you’re almost to 2nd tri! Good luck tomorrow—hope everything looks good!!
  • HI ladies... I was checking out this side last week and beginning to think there wasn't anyone in the 1st trimester. lol!

    How far along are you/ EDD? 6w2d

    How is everyone feeling? Nausea started in full swing this morning. I am going to be interested to see if this time around is different. With my son, my symptoms were really mild. I had a great pregnancy. We are having a girl this time and my mom's pregnancy with me was awful so I'm really hoping it's not quite the same. Sore boobs and being tired are just a staple these days.

    Any upcoming appointments? my last appointment with my RE is on Friday where we will hopefully see the heartbeat. I feel like he "graduates" us so early but he likes to tell me that it's his job to get me pregnant and my ob's job to keep me pregnant.

    Any thoughts/questions/concerns? For some reason this time around I am sooo nervous even though I don't really have any reason to be. I don't know if it's because I'm older or what but I really am.

    GTKY: How/when are you telling people you’re pregnant? we have always been really open with our infertility journey. This time around we didn't tell anyone that we had started the process. We ended up telling my MIL and SIL b/c we were with them the weekend after transfer and I couldn't get in the pool which was the whole reason we had rented the house we did. It was my MIL's bday so she was thrilled with the "present." We are going to tell my parents this week when they are in town. I don't think we will announce anything on FB until closer to end of first trimester.

  • @Bababatty  Thank you!!!  ❤❤❤  we certainly have our hands full, in the best possible way.  :smiley:

    I started off by doing the Google for my zip code, and searching dona.org as well.  While I did find a local person on the DONA site, I reached out first to someone I found who had a website and was close by.  (We met and she seemed very nice, would have been happy to work together, I'm sure, had she not had her family issues come up.)  I was hesitant to reach out to anyone else and figured we would make do.  But then it was my chiropractor who asked me again if we had one, and recommended the one we ended up using.  I'm not sure how I didn't find her website before, (SEO issues I guess), but I'm so glad the chiro made the recommendation.  Word of mouth means so much!  Do you have anyone you can ask, in addition to the internet searches?
  • Thank you @BusinessWife! I’ll start searching/using that site, and I have a few friends who I think used doulas, so i’ll ask them, too. I’m so happy to hear everything is going so well! Hooray!!
  • @Griffin5413 welcome! Is Friday your first ultrasound?

    @Bababatty thank you! Looking forward to some updates this week :smile:

    @hildy11 Congrats on the beautiful US and graduating your RE! So exciting!

    How is everyone else doing this week?

  • I do recommend switching to maternity jeans/slacks sooner rather than later though; it is a BIG difference in comfort. The jeans I got had an elastic section on each side and so they would adjust perfectly to your body's shape. Even when I wasn't showing yet, they were super comfortable. And they weren't obviously "maternity" clolthes since my tops hid the elastic sections so I wore them before we told anyone (which was around 14 weeks).
