Never Say Never

*Stolen from M19*

Ok, this one is just for fun! What is something that you swore you’d never do and then it happened, or you were appalled when you realized you’d done it? Can be parenting-related or not. For example: “I swore I’d never pick up a dirty pacifier and suck it ‘clean’ and give it back to baby, but once I became a parent that went out the window.” or “I swore I’d never be unnatural in any way but when my first forehead wrinkles showed up I tried Botox. Never say never!”

  • I swore I'd never like iced tea, but now it's my beverage of choice. The stronger the better!
  • I would never co-sleep. HA!

I swore I’d never want to live in the suburbs. Oops.
  • My sister would often start conversations with “Elias pooped today!” So I swore I’d never talk about my own kids bowel movements. Definitely broke that rule.
  • I never thought I would let my kid watch so much TV but dang sometimes I’m so exhausted and it’s the only break I get.
  • A lot of mine have been taken! LOL!

I swore I’d never use the phrase “because I said so...” Took 2 days into my 4yo DD getting to the why phase of life to start using it. Lol
  • I swore I’d never give my kids a phone or tablet in a store to keep the quite....didn’t take vary long for that to go out the window
  • I never thought I would wipe snot off another human's face with my bare hand, and well...
  • Basically everything parenting related.

Right? I was a PERFECT parent before I had children.
I babysat/nannied a lot and know a lot about kids between that and my psych degree - that said, it's entirely different with your own children.

  • Not kid related.. I swore I'd never have a desk job. The vast majority of my job, and my favorite part of it, is sitting on my ass reviewing medical records. I love it! I also swore I'd never wear leggings as pants, a few pregnancies later I said F it, at least I have a nice booty.
  • I swore I'd never have an artificial Christmas tree, but am really mulling it over this year. Grabby toddler, grabby dog, needles everywhere, and fighting with my husband over whether the trunk is cut properly and the tree is standing straight just don't seem appealing.
  • Oh that's a good one @izzfrancisco! I said I'd never be the casual one in the office and totally looked down on those who didn't respect the dress code. HA! Leggings are life right now. I don't have the time or inclination to go shopping for pants and legging are comfy so....
  • @bleucheeznwine that’s one that I literally will NEVER do unless all of the real Christmas trees suddenly disappear from the planet or God forbid I birth a child who is allergic.

May just make the kid go stay with grandma and grandpa for the month so I can enjoy my tree  :D
  • I’m totally getting an artificial one this year @bleucheeznwine
  • I swore I would never give my kid a tablet or phone out to dinner. But how do parents get through dinner without doing that?!
  • Swore i I would never use the nose Frieda but that thing seriously works

I laughed so hard when I saw that at Buy Buy Baby. DH and I couldn’t wrap our minds around it. I’m sure we will one day though, especially if it works!
  • Yup. Nosefrida is the shit. Beats a moldy bulb and it is really efficient.
  • Nosefrida 4 life. That thing is amazing.

  • excellent - nosefrida is on the registry!

I swore I'd never.. I don't even know, after this kiddo is born I'm sure I'll have plenty though!
  • Ive never used the nose freida, and I could never figure out the bulb. We used saline spray quite often, though.
  • Has anyone used the baby-vac? The nose Frida seems pretty tame in comparison!  :D
  • I swore I'd never stop moving around and living overseas from time to time, putting down roots sounded boring. Then in my 30s I met my homebody husband, and well, life changes

  • I swore I’d only feed my dd homemade baby food from organic produce, and never feed her anything storebought.

....she ended up never wanting to eat anything so I got sick of making purées and her rejecting them so I broke down and bought her gerbers. She still didn’t eat most food but at least my feelings weren’t hurt over it.
Along these lines... I made all organic, homemade food for my first.

My second got squeeze pouches of whatever was on a Cartwheel deal at Target.  :D

This same exact thing happened to me. I got tired of going through the effort of making homemade stuff just for it to be rejected so we switched to store bought. She was still super picky (and still is) but at least I hadn’t put so much work into it.

@hnbergeron Not weird at all! I don’t think I ever said I never wanted kids, but for years I didn’t even think of having kids as a thing that was in my future. It was a non-issue, not on my radar at all. Then yeah, something just clicked and pretty much overnight I was baby crazy.
I wouldn't say baby crazy, lol. Still avoid kids. They freak me out, no idea why. Once they hit 4 or 5, I am ok but before that.....I'm sure it will be different with my own(I hope!)
  • We did 90% homemade food for both kids because it's easy and cheap. But always pouches for out and about because I'm all about making things easy when out.

I swore we'd never be "that" Disney obsessed family, but somehow, we are. Our last two vacations were Disney and I'm sure the next 10+ will be as well.

  • @hnbergeron- Not crazy at all. I did not want to have a child/be a parent most of my life, until I was about 35, and then didn't start trying until I was 39.  People change :)
