one of our dearly beloved posters,
@haphazardlymadeupscreenname, is having a surprise baby shower and everyone’s invited! but hey, we’re all having babies and we’re on a tight budget; naturally, we don’t want to spend too much money.
so, each poster has a set budget of about $25 total for their gift/gifts. what do you bring to the shower for the mom-to-be?
***this is just for fun and
not a real event. but i thought this could be helpful for a couple reasons. one, s+tms can talk about some nifty incidentals they’ve used that they like. two, this could put together a list of the lesser “after-thought” stuff that we need as we’re getting ready for our own babies.
or, take the opportunity to pip hilarious, beautiful, and/or really cool baby stuff you’ve come across for everyone’s enjoyment.
anything goes as long as you stick to the budget and it’s mom/baby related!

disney princess lullaby album by fred mollin ~ $9: gentle instrumental music inspired by classic disney songs.
+
neat cheeks ~ $3: sweet-flavored and non-sticky wet wipes safe to use on little faces and hands that doesn’t leave a yucky chemical taste behind.
Nipple cream $9
Breast pads $8
(Went a little over! I always do!!)

Also, some kind of CJ’s BUTTer from me, also! $9

I've never heard of CJ's BUTTer and I'm excited to try it! Getting diaper rash cream on your finger is the worst.
If the person had something like it on their registry, I would get them:
A 10-pack of the Munchkin bowls--$12.99
Munchkin infant spoons--$5.50
Then probably a board book with the remaining money.
ETA: I changed my mind and instead of a book, I would get a set of Bumpkins bibs to use for feeding time. Best bibs ever! Pack of 3 for $10
At my baby shower, someone got me all the eating/feeding supplies we would need and it was such a great gift! Even though we didn't need it for a long time, it was great to have it all on hand and we still use them every day! Plus, at baby showers you usually get tons of baby stuff but not much toddler stuff, so it's nice to have some toddler stuff on hand for the future.

I’m fascinated by the Therapearl thing. I remember filling diapers with scalding hot water and wrapping my poor boobs in those (didn’t work great) and the Epsom salt boob baths. But these are to be used as you’re pumping to help release the clogs?
I’d go with the Munchkin Light My Way nursery light $9.99. Helps with middle of the night diapers and feedings when you don’t want to turn on a bright light.
MyBaby by Homedics on the go sound machine $9.99.
Zoli teething sticks $10. Sorry I went over!!
Also a pack of Muslin Burp Cloths $11. They are more expensive than regular, but they are bigger and way more absorbent. They worked a lot better for ds' reflux, and they are super soft, so less skin irritation.
I would go over a bit and get a board book like Goodnight Moon, or Guess How Much I Love You.
I've never heard of CJ'S Butter, I will have to look into it.
@offtoneverland I love your gift idea of toddler stuff! I did that for my sister when she had baby in March. I was the only one that thought ahead and she loved it. As an aside, the Munchin 360 cups are the best things since sliced bread.
For the rest I always like to include infant Tylenol, infant gas drops, and maybe a nose frida. Things new moms don’t think of, but in the middle of the night you’ll wish you had lol.
- Icy Bite Teether (there are lots of options but you can stick in the fridge so they get nice and cool!) $4
- first years stacking cups $4
- bright stars sit and see floor mirror $7
- indestructibles book (you can wash it and they can chew it and they can’t rip it!) $5
- bright stars lots of links. Oh my heavens these are so useful for everything. You can clip them to all manner of toys and then onto a stroller or playmat or car seat or wherever for baby to have a toy on the go that he can’t get rid of! They also just like To hook/unhook the links and of course chew em $5
@MouseMama817 ...making everyone else look bad with her $$$ gift
@wildrainbow munchkin 360s are the best!
@firsttimespartanmom book instead of card is definitely my preference, too! especially since a lot of cards are just as, if not more, expensive than a board book! that’s one baby shower trend that i actually really like.
@emjohn517 medicine: yea so thoughtful, and you don’t want to have to leave your kid to go to the store when they’re sick either, no matter what time of day.
@lifesabeach85 your toy list is spot on. everyone should have each of those. i should have added plastic stacking blocks to my shower gift list because that’s how my daughter’s pediatrician would gauge some of her development milestones—how many blocks she could stack.
