I thought we could have this since several of us have sweet babies requiring some extra help. It's going to be very informal and of course anyone can participate. I figured this would be a great place where we can support each other, celebrate, and even cry about setbacks.
Use this place to vent about the highs and lows of NICU life.
let me start this off on a high note by saying that extra restrictions have finally been lifted here, and dh and i are holding our girls right now with no gowns or gloves! i can’t stop stroking their heads; they are so soft.

So, today was the best day ever! We got NICU this morning and the first thing they said was they drop his peep down to 3, then they said they were coming off it!! Matthew is on a high flow cannula at 23% oxygen on 3 liters. But, the good news didn't end there. They said I could hold him! Y'all, today, at 5 days old, I got to hold my baby for the first time. Today is also the fist day I've been able to see his face clearly. Seriously, BEST. DAY. EVER!
@marfi236 - I hope the circ goes/went well and you get to take your sweet boy home today! @highsteaks - that's great! @wildrainbow - I am so, so glad you finally get to hold your sweet boy. Beautiful pictures! And way to go buddy for coming off the CPAP!

about to head back to the nicu; girls are getting EEGs and head ultrasounds in the next 24 hours to try to pinpoint why their hr and oxygen levels keep dropping periodically. should know results tomorrow night.
we finally got to bring in dd1 to meet them yesterday. she was way more excited and affectionate than i thought she’d be. when we first walked in, she told us to leave, led us out the door by hand, and said, “i’ve got this. i’m going to watch my baby sisters,” and sits down in the armchair between their isolettes. oh, my heart
@highsteaks - that is wonderful DD meeting the girls went so well! I hope the NICU team can figure out why the girls keep dropping their numbers. How are they eating?

@mockingjay1 they’re actually eating (fortified bm from a bottle mostly) pretty well. not quite 80% of the feedings, but very close most days. elise better than emilia. both above birthweight (on night 8, today is day 10). they still get tube feedings sometimes if they seem particularly exhausted. i’m definitely ok with that.
I meant to post this yesterday, but forgot. Matthew is taking bottles now! He only gets two bottles in a 24 period, but he's doing it! He gets pretty exhausted after and they have to turn up his oxygen after, but that is getting better. Today after his bottle, they didn't need to turn it up. It could also be because H and I both got to hold him today. Pic is from yesterday.
@marfi236 Any update on Tristan? Did you all make it home? @wildrainbow Those pictures are the sweetest! You both look so happy and peaceful. You've got a strong little guy on your hands and I can't wait to see more updates. @highsteaks That is just the sweetest about your oldest already wanting to handle everything on her own.
I don't really have an update but figured I'd post here. It's just really weird having a baby in the NICU. I have to stay in bed until at least 2pm today, and I just want to go see her. DD1's birth was so easy so I just didn't expect for anything to go wrong (I mean, no one expects it) so it all feels surreal and like a dream. Like did I really have a baby just 6 hours ago?! It can't be real!
Thinking of all you lovely ladies today and your sweet babies. Hope everyone has a perfect day.
So, I walked into the NICU today already on a high because Matthew got his OG tube out and moved to an NG tube. Laymen's terms: OG=tube down the mouth to the stomach, NG= Tube down the nose to the stomach. The NG tube means that I got to practice BF today! However, when I walked in, I saw his nurse moving his empty isolette and I about had a heart attack right there. BUT, baby Matthew graduated to an open crib!! I about started crying, his nurse was trying to surprise me, lol. Y'all, he gets to wear clothes! Granted, they are a not big, but no more isolette, I can put my hands on him. Our trial BF session was a huge success and he latched perfectly! It was the best thing ever!
@wildrainbow oh what a wonderful day good job Matthew!!!!! He is so precious

afm— both the EEGs and the head ultrasounds came back all clear! the docs and the np are a little more confident that the hr and oxygen dipping is probably because of... acid reflux girls, i feel ya.
and elise is also movin on up to a crib tonight! i had to leave before she got set up, but she should be in it when i go back tomorrow! i am bringing clothes for her too!
@highsteaks Yay for the all clear!thatis awesome! Seeing her clothes will be like looking at a whole new baby. Can't wait until her sister can join the open crib club!
the nicu halls were all decorated for halloween overnight! loving the festivity. i was also surprised to find that BOTH my girlies were given cribs today! and the night nurse raided the donated nicu clothes for halloween stuff. adore her.
@offtoneverland Tristan did make it home on Saturday! It has been so wonderful having him here and not needing to spend an hour and a half driving every day to go be with him!
