March 2019 Moms

Am I gaining too much weight, too fast?

I’ll be 18 weeks tomorrow and I have a good size bump already. I’m so excited to be a mommy and I know that I worry about everything because I want everything to be okay lol. I started at about 125 lbs and now I’m close to 140. I’m trying to eat healthy and being a vegetarian helps, I think. Is this okay?

    What does your doctor think?

  • The doctor didn’t say anything. I go back tomorrow
  • if it’s something you’re concerned about, I’d bring it up with your doctor. Weight gain in pregnancy is unique to each woman and pregnancy.
  • @nb1994 I'd recommend bringing this issue up with your doctor who has actual medical training and is familiar with your individual medical history. All women put on weight in pregnancy differently and how much weight you should be putting on depends largely on whether you were over/under weight to begin with and what your doctor considers to be a healthy weight gain rate.

Additionally please read the guidelines for our board and introduce yourself in our intro thread so we can get to know you. Both of those, as well as the questions thread, are pinned to the top of the board.

  • @nb1994 What the other ladies  said, You definitely should ask this question to your doctor to get a more specific answer As they have your whole health history and pregnancy information and we don’t. However, I will say that with my first baby I weighed as much as you in the beginning and was up to 140 by the end of the first trimester... As long as you’re eating healthy and trying to be active I don’t think you have anything to worry about :-)
  • I wouldn't worry too much. I am 21 weeks and have gained roughly 17 lbs. Doctor hasn't said anything about it. I'd assume if it were a problem, they would have said something by now.
  • Thank you guys! I had my appointment this morning and everything was fine 😊
  • Same starting weight and weight gain with my first pregnancy, you may gain differently each trimester. This time around I’ve only gained 10lbs at this point (19 weeks)😀
