Introduction and Antibody Question

Hi

I'm Kate, I'm due June 16 and this is my second. I live in Ontario, Canada.
I have a question for some mama's who have maybe experienced this. I got a call today from my doctor that some of my blood work came back unusual. I tested positive for cold antibodies. (I'm A- blood type) she said it was quite rare and while the amounts were small, she's sending me to a specialist at the hospital. She said it shouldn't seriously affect my pregnancy but it will interfere with me using a midwife. Has anybody ever tested positive for this before? Apparently in cold temperatures, my blood will attack itself and eat up my red blood cells giving me anemia. Everything I google its terrifying so I was hoping maybe somebody had a similar experience they could share.

TIA

Hello, the 1st Trimester board is pretty transient, so I'd recommend you join the June '19 birth month board to get involved with the community there.

As for your question, with the rarity of your situation you might not find anyone with the same specific experience, but I recommend that you write down any questions/fears that you have pop up and bring them to your next doctor's appointment. They will have the best answers regarding your specific situation and how they intend to mitigate risk and what actions they will take if needed. If you are concerned with having an OB vs the midwife you wanted to have, I suggest looking into finding a doula to help with the holistic approach to your pregnancy you might have wanted. Finally, Dr. Google has horrible bedside manner, so aside from getting basic information about your condition try to avoid it in lieu of a conversation with your actual doctor. People rarely write about when high risk situations go right. Good luck!

    Thank you!

Yes I have a list of concerns and questions for my doctor but my next appointment isn't for a while so I was hoping somebody could help.  I will check out June 19.  All the best to you and your little bub.

@kateraid give your doctor a call. If it has the potential for some pretty serious sounding complications then they might be willing to meet with you sooner, or at least answer some questions over the phone.
