Re: PAIF Graduates - New Mommies - October 2018

  • @hottietoddy it's more important to take care of your mental health than it is to breastfeed. It's really hard not to put pressure on yourself to make up for dumping the milk, but at the end of the day, adding the session in doesn't sound like it's in your best interest. Are you talking to a therapist too? I know it's hard to go to sessions with a newborn. Just know your not alone and we're here for you!

@sarzee2 thought of you and your issues with your in-laws last night. We hadn't talked to my in-laws in a while, so DH called to see about getting together for breakfast soon. Turns out I hurt their feelings recently, so they'd been avoiding us for the past 3 weeks. Ugh.

According to them, I'm constantly attacking my mother-in-law for everything and make her feel terrible. What caused all of this? I corrected her when she referred to chicken as chickie, as in she told Mackenzie to eat her chickie. We don't use "baby talk" with Mackenzie, so I correct certain things with her. Like when she referred to nursing as getting "milky moo". Luckily DH supports me on this. So when we see them, I'm supposed to help clear the air by explaining my parenting choices. Considering they made me feel like a surrogate during pregnancy, there's no way I'm going to apologize.
  • @persnickity omg the baby talk! My mother in law even responds in baby talk in text messages “how is widdle (little) Abigail doing, wook at her!” It makes me want to gag.

  • @wildrainbow oh hugs mama, I hope by the time you’re reading those that you are snuggling that sweet baby! Keep us posted!
  • @wildrainbow welcome! Sending you lots of hugs - I can't imagine what you are going through right now.

@persnickity - so funny you said that because DH's aunt told him that I hurt MILs feelings at Parker's birthday party because she felt ignored/didnt get to spend time with Parker. There were 30 people there, my child was a little overwhelmed with his own father smothering him at one point that the kid just wanted his mom. Then at the end she came to say bye and said "give grandma a kiss" and Parker resisted so she went to half hug him/half pull him in and I said "no, if he doesn't want a kiss or hug from you, please don't force it". I won't be making my child hug or kiss anyone he doesn't want to - DH supports me with this but then never does it with them...just remains silent. I guess if I have to be the bad guys then...oh well.

@wildrainbow  Congratulations!!!  I'm so sorry for the scary arrival.  Fx LO gets out of the NICU today!  (((Hugs)))  You did great, mama
  • @persnickity, @mtpbadger the baby talk kills me! DH and I have cats so admittedly we do "speak" for them and do it with Carter as well, but it's not like this high pitched whiny nails on a chalkboard sound!

The surrogate feelings happened for me too...my ILs were both born in our neighborhood and have lived in our brownstone for 40 years so they know literally everyone...there were SO many times when I was pregnant if I ran into MIL on the street talking to someone she would introduce me as "the mother of her future grandchild". It would boil my blood but DH would always say she didn't mean anything by it, she's just excited to be a grandma. But why should those feelings of excitement make me feel sad or uncomfortable?

Sigh...I could honestly rant about this forever, I need to put on my big girl panties and finally say something to express my feelings to them.

I’d totally be will to connect on Facebook - I have a couple of the girls on there already. Mines on lockdown having an HR job but if I know who you are I can accept lol.
We’re on Instagram too under jen.and.parker - the IF community on there has also been awesome!!

  • @2MomsHoping haha, it's kind of why I'm not in a hurry to resolve things. It's been nice!
  • Hey all,
I'm still here. Thanks for the nudge @2MomsHoping. Tbh what's happening is this baby is taking all my time, and when I come on here to read and catch up, I'm so behind, and by the time I start reading, the baby is screaming, etc etc, you all know how it goes. But I've been mostly following along. Also. I've been trying to connect with other new moms locally BC I was feeling so isolated, so I'm on a bunch of fb groups and that's taking my social media time.  But I'm down to be in a closed fb group. Also, I'm learning a lot from the stuff you guys are talking about, but I often don't have much contribute, since I'm not at that stage yet-like the work stuff, etc.
Anyway, @2MomsHoping I'm gald you guys are on the same page about the ear. I think minimizing elective surgery seems prudent. Also she's beautiful.
Ugh, I'm laughing and horrified about the MIL stuff. Mine is mostly fine with me but tries to get me involved in conflicts between her and DH and I just try to stay out of it. They were making me nuts when they were here but since they live in NY I don't interact with them much. We're supposed to move next year, but we'll see.
AFM, getting the hang of this, sorta. I've been going to a bf support group twice a week and on walks with other moms on other days. Will start mom and baby yoga next week. The isolation feeling is getting a little better, mostly I'm so tired and he's so much work that I'm not sure I have time to think about it.
DH and I are still at each others throats, but overall things are mostly OK. I'm thinking of extending my leave by 2 months BC I'm realizing that this is such precious time and if I'm entitled to it, why wouldn't I take it. I'll need to deal with my work, but I'm entitled to it, so there's kind of nothing they can do. It'll be at about half pay, but why not take 2 months of half pay for not working you know? We may have to pull from our savings, but we're talking about a few thousand dollars, its not that big of a deal. So anyway, that's been my realization in the past 24 hours. Feels good. But lots to figure out for sure.

Love all the Halloween stuff. I need to work on Josey's costume asap. Ahh. I need to be realistic that I'm probably not going to sew it myself.

@wildrainbow I got teary looking at your picture of the first feeding. I'm so happy for you that you got to be there today and can't wait for you to get cuddle time. Ibhope he's out of the nicu soon, but like others have said, I'm sure the nurses will be awesome. We had to be separated from our baby just for an hour or so after my c section and that was awful. I totally get it.

I will be back on another day to discuss co-sleeping vs the snoo(which we just bit the bullet and bought off cl BC I was losing my mind, but it hasn't been the panacea I was hoping for) BC I never would have thought I would do any co-sleeping, but now I kind of get the appeal--its easier, he sleeps better, less work for me. But of course, there's some risk with it, plus I feel like it might not be great long term. Ahh, its so hard to know what to do in everything. Parenting is essentially a million decisions every day and you have no idea if what you are doing is right. Do I wake him from a 2 hr nap or let him sleep? Try the rock and play again and risk him freaking out? Put him to bed earlier or feed him more times before he goes down? I feel like I'm just blindly groping in the dark!

@hottietoddy I also have to take Ativan here and there and it really is helpful. I did take it more often after baby came too. As everyone else said you gotta take care of yourself too. :) baby boy has only had formula as I didn’t create any milk and he is doing great but I get feeling guilty. It’s hard.
@wildrainbow welcome and congrats. So glad you got to see the baby today and do a feed. Hopefully everyone will be home soon.
@halfanewt welcome as well! Congrats on baby Zane!

AFM Bryson is still waking up frequently coughing so missing those 6 nights he sleep through the night haha. It was good while it lasted. Hoping his cough goes away soon. Feel so bad for him.

@wildrainbow - hormones and pride lol. I remember when the first time I pumped at 4oz bag, took me a day and half but man was I proud...the picture came up on my TimeHop recently.

Edit to say I’ll still come on here even if a group would be started. I’d just love to ditch some of the other random ones I’m on for one with you gals - this place is far more respectful, thoughtful group which I really appreciate

  • And adding now to finish my thought. Accidentally hit post before. Sleep deprivation is real!

A little background just in case. After trying all the things and seeing multiple REs who tried to treat us using the factory model, we ended up with an unexplained diagnosis and IVF. Feeling very fortunate that we got our little guy and a few embryos in storage, and DH is already talking about TFAS, lol.

In rhe meantime, I’ve been lurking this thread at the late night feedings. I like my BMB, but I miss the perspective and community of this one, too. It’s great to see some familiar faces and I look forward to getting to know the rest of you!

@wildrainbow so happy to hear you were reunited with your little guy!

@Hopeful_mom we started Bryson on cereal and some baby foods at 4 months. He liked it at first but I think with the cold he became less interested. Sorry baby girl still isn’t sleeping much. :( poor mama!
Im taking a couple days off of work because honestly I have just had it with this pain, no sleeping etc. so I’m going to lay on the couch today and do nothing. The naturopath also told me I have histamine overload and I didn’t read much into that until last night at 2am when I was still up and geez no wonder I feel horrible all the time adding with the pain. • @Holls214
What do you like to watch?
There are some good crime dramas on Netflix, good historical dramas, etc. One of my favorites is Call the Midwife which is a british show about a group of midwives in the postwar era -- lots of interesting stories about the different families they meet, social issues, etc. Also touched on IF a bit with one of the characters unable to have a baby on her own and going through that emotional rollercoaster.  But not such a good show if you get queasy at the thought of alot of birth scenes!

Good crime drama is Seven Seconds -- about a lawyer trying to get justice for a boy killed during a hit and run involving a cop (who wanted to turn himself in but was talked out of it by some not-so-good cops).

There's Anne with an E if you like book adaptations, some good horror - The Witch, The Conjuring.... so much stuff! (You can tell I was on light activity for most of my preg. haha)

  • I'd like a fb group also.

@wildrainbow I've been in your shoes with the NICU, if you need someone to talk to you can pm me. Your Matthew is beautiful, I'm so glad that you got to be there for the feeding. I'm hoping he gets sprung from NICU soon.

@halfanewt Welcome! I'm hoping that you are getting settled into a good grove with Zane.

@hopeful_mom I didn't have much hand pain but I did end up with really painful tennis elbow. I did a lot of stretching with my arms. I freely admit to hating the advent bottles because of how awkward they were to hold with my hands. If you can get away, a manicure that has a good hand massage will feel amazing.

@Grgrump I don't know that clueless feelings get any better but I felt more confident as I got to know my babies. That takes longer than I though it would, the love for me was instant but knowing their cries, motions, etc took a bit longer. Now that they are mobile, talking up a storm, etc its a bit easier than that early stage. I always let the babies sleep, always.
  • I'd be happy to start the group unless @2MomsHoping or someone else wants to start it! We'll just need a few interested folks as mods (just in case!).

    @stella_700
I bet you'll be a great resource for @wildrainbow

    @gfgrump
I'm gradually feeling more and more competent but there are always times that I get frustrated or feel overwhelmed. I think that's normal -- as is the wanting to be the best possible mom for your little one! Like @stella_700 , the bonding for me was instantaneous and very powerful (I never thought I could love anyone or anything so much...I'm a very independent person). And you do get to know what to expect from baby but there are always wild and crazy times.

I always worry that I'm doing something wrong or not doing something enough and my mom always reminds me that the most important thing is that my baby is loved -- everything else (doing enough tummy time, play sessions, keeping to sleep schedules, etc) is just extra. I always hold onto that when I'm having a bad day. I'm sure I screw up a ton but my little girl always seems to forgive me! My mom says she's sure she made plenty of mistakes with us as kiddos and I'm always, 'but you are an awesome mom!!!' --- so perspective is important. I bet our kids will look back one day and say, 'I always thought you were doing perfectly!'.

  • @2MomsHoping LOL "not having it" That pretty much sums up some days.

Last night was as double struggle night from about 12:30 to almost 3:30. I'm a zombie at work and my head is killing me. I looked at my son this morning as he was giggling and crawling toward me as fast as possible and said, "Its a good thing you're so stinkin' cute." Why do babies wake up at the same time even when they've not slept well?
  • @stella_700 seriously? Bryson was up coughing all night and wanted to be fed at 4am then was still up at 6:30. Yawn.
Thanks for the suggestions! I love crime shows!
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.
  • @Holls214 Poor Bryson, is he sick or just coughing? I think with many parts of the country switching to the heaters, running the humidifier in their rooms has helped the twins with that adjustment.

If we could trade off the sleep deprivation wouldn't be so bad, but there are TWO of them *sob/laugh*, which means DH (his crankiness in dealing with this isn't helpful in MOTN) is up with us. Its really getting to us right now, neither baby is sleeping through the night at this point. We've got a good bedtime routine down I think. Last feeding at seven followed by offering bottle, then changing, turning off the lights and the TV and snuggling for 5-10 for a quiet time break, then to the cribs with a book. I don't know what else to do. We've tried CIO and it works for Victoria but it just angers Chase and he screams till he's gasping for air. I know part of it is that they are in the middle of a leap AND teething but, holy night crimes against parents batman, we've got to get three or four good nights of sleep in a row for our sanity. If it doesn't improve we might be separating them into their own rooms sooner than I'd prefer.

We could all go as zombie Moms and babies (beets, not pickled, mixed with anything else also creates the zombie baby look) to Halloween, it wouldn't be to far from the truth at least for us parents.

  • @stella_700 This is why parents of twins should all be nominated for sainthood. Mackenzie is going through a leap, teething, and I think she even threw in a growth spurt for fun. I'm barely handling one kid with all of this. No way would I be able to handle two! The Sleeping through the night book talks about other methods than CIO. Not sure if anything might work for your son, but it was things like coming back to check on them after a few minutes and slowly increase the time between checks or sitting next to the crib and slowly getting further away.

@wildrainbow you did win the lottery getting to do the feeding!! So glad he's making progress.

I'm not really on Facebook, so as much as I'd like to, I'm not able to join the group.
  • @wildrainbow that is a great update! Sounds like Matthew can’t wait to get home with you and is doing great! And great job on they pumping, it’s not easy and you’re doing awesome!
