Re: October Randoms

  • @sgrn18 don’t feel dumb! This is my third time around so I’ve hand a lot of practice and freaking out with my first one.

  •  I think my five year old might have hand, foot and mouth 😭 I hope my little buddy doesn’t have it.

  • Oh no!! I hope you get it cured quickly!
  • @maelily15 hope the cleaning/recovery is going as smoothly as possible (if it is even possible). Thinking of you as the remains of Michael moves through.
Hoping no one lives in the part of Florida that got hit.

Samantha just got over the mouth infection similar to HFM.  She had a fever for four days straight. She actually did pretty well, but then my two year old got it a week later.  My other two were spared. Fortunately, with Tylenol they acted fine.  I hope everyone else is spared in your house.  It’s yuckh with them sick for so long.
  • My home page has an article on food and one of the suggestions is sweet potato with cottage cheese and cinnamon on top. Is it just me or does that sound disgusting?

  • @megpeg that does sounds gross!
  • @megpeg Here's to hoping!! If I knew how to gif on TB I'd add one of me crossing my fingers and an excited face!

Seeing friends with new babies makes me want another! Lol which makes no sense because the 1st couple of months were a blur of stress, tears, and no sleep lol
  • @sgrn18 those parts get easier with the next one and you feel more at ease.

  • Dang!  So close, @megpeg.  Are you still nursing?  I know I could get my whole cycle going if I cut out a nursing session, but I am enjoying clear skin and not being a bitch right now!  Lol!  Hopefully, you get one little swimmer to meet an egg over the next month.
  • Um, is your DH really ready to be done with this chapter?  He basically challenged you to a sexathon with the end result of maybe making a baby?
  • I am still pumping. I am also enjoying clear skin. I have no idea what he’s thinking. I think he’s thinking the possibility is so low that he will risk it and be ok with the consequences. Also Declan is the best baby ever and makes him want another. He also has adjusted a few newborns the last week.

  • Yaaaas, @megpeg !  I am living proof that it can be done in one month lol.  Fingers crossed for you 1,000 times!!!
  • @shoretobe, thank you for thinking of us. Luckily we were spared this time around. Here’s hoping the families in Michael’s path all made it through!
  • Hey moms - when do you usually turn your heat on for the winter?  It's our first year as homeowners - we've just had landlords blasting our heat in the past.  Woke up to it 66 degrees inside this morning (high of 52 outside today), and while my husband and I would be more than fine with that, I keep worrying it's too cold for N.  Am I being paranoid?  I did just switch the heat on and I'm waiting for my husband to yell when he wakes up lol
  • @ashtuesday we keep ours at 67. I turned it on on Thursday night.

  • If this was real I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
  • We usually keep ours between 68 and 70, but to be honest I do lots of footie pjs during the winter.  It’s just easy and like an all over blanket.
  • I need to put this kid in a bubble. He has fallen and hit his head three times and has only been up an hour. I keep telling him this is why 7month olds shouldn’t be standing up.

  • Are you brushing your LOs teeth??
  • @knuttyplus2 I am!  N's pediatrician recommended we start literally as soon as she had 1/4 of her first tooth breaking through, which seemed weird to me, but whatever.  Nora thinks it's funny and gladly opens her mouth every time she sees the toothbrush!

In a possibly-tooth-related matter: N woke up this morning with bright red cheeks that felt warm to the touch.  No fever, no exposure to new foods/detergents/lotions that would give her an allergic reaction.  The internet says it could be related to new teeth coming in, but she never experienced it before.  Weird!
  • We brush LOs teeth! He has 4 almost 5 teeth now. I think he actually likes it, like @ashtuesday said, he opens his mouth the second he sees the brush lol

  • @ashtuesday Yay!! They still will definitely be their own people. I have friends that we 12 months apart and they couldn’t have been any different. The other one was a tomboy and the younger one was a glamor girl. They we so different but were each other’s best friend(most of the time.)

  • @ashtuesday that's awesome!!
  • Congratulations! Sisters that. Close together must be an amazing experience.
  • Yay for the gender reveal today!! So exciting!
  • Thank you all!  I am so damn excited, and I'm having SO much trouble not barraging my husband with name ideas every time there's a lull in the conversation lol

    @ashtuesday.  Congrats and so exciting!!

I hear each tooth may present differently, so good luck to us all!  Ok, off to find a toothbrush...I guess...two toothbrushes!
  • Question for working Moms.  I set up a meeting with HR today because our company prorates bonuses when women go on maternity leave.  I’m on par to hit my metrics performance wise and if the company has a good Holiday it could be big- but to punish a woman for having approved leave?  It seems completely unfair.  Anyone else’s company do this?  Trying to have all my points ready for the discussion.

I’m in corporate retail so we work 9 months out with buys and plans- for March-May I had done everything to prep last summer and when I returned my team basically did nothing while I was out- so I spent a lot of time fixing things and working extra hours.
  • @slr1229 No experience with that, but it sounds extremely prejudicial and not okay to me.  Do they do the same thing for people who take other leaves, like extended sick?
  • Yeah I agree, that sounds completely unfair.  And like @ashtuesday said if they arent doing the same to someone who had surgery, short term disability,  or sick leave that's definitely not right.
  • @slr1229 - especially unfair if you had to use your own time to be out (like your own sick and vacation). Furthermore that you prepped everything before you left and had to fix/catch up for your team when you got back. This gets under my skin. I hope they hear you when you have your sit down and explain all you did and see that you should not be punished for having a child. I really wish you luck.

@ashtuesday yay for sisters!!!! So excited for you and your family!! 💜

@knuttyplus2 good point about each tooth presenting different.
  • Totally off baby topic but can anyone think of any cool fundraisers? A 13 year old at my sons school has scoliosis that needs surgery and her insurance won’t cover it. They are doing a pancake breakfast, I have a group doing henna, I think we are doing a bubble tea stand at our church bazaar. Any other ideas?

  • When I taught at a charter the kids wore uniforms so we had a monthly dress down day which they paid to wear jeans and t-shirts (which only works if they wear uniforms and the school is good with it) a pajama day might work too though.
See if a local company would donate t-shirts or hoodies to sell and let students design the graphics to be featured. The theme could be friendship or community.
My cousin is selling pies for her gymnastics teams to be delivered before Thanksgiving with proceeds going to the team (pies can also be purchased and donated to the local food bank). Or try a local garden place and sell mums.
If you have an area/venue you could do like a fall fest or winter fest and set up games like ring toss and cornhole and buy little prizes from like oriental trading or amazon and charge a dollar a play or something like that
Sorry, a lot of these ideas require help from the Community, but I find local businesses are usually willing to participate to get their names out in a positive light.
I don’t know if you have “paint and sip” places by you but I know a lot of groups do fundraisers through them as it’s a nice night out for adults
    theres always car washes too.
Oh and maybe if there’s trunk or treat you could set up a can for donations?
  • Someone around here is doing a fundraiser where people bring in used shoes.  The company repairs them and sends them off to third world countries...I believe.  You get paid by the pound and it’s something people don’t have to give money to.  The response was enormous and they earned a lot.  Maybe look into something like that near you if it exists.

That is is so awesome you guys are rallying behind her to get her help.  Scoliosis can cause some pretty serious complications later in life.
  • @DDRRT1982 they just found out in August and it’s progresses terribly since then. It’s very severe and within the next few months if nothing is done her spine is going to go Into her heart and lungs.

That’s exactly what I was talking about.  Her lung capacity could be compromised and lead to many lung complications.  I hope she gets the surgery. Poor girl!
  • @megpeg, do y'all have chic-fil-a?
