Second Time Difference?

I’m preparing for my second birth. Had a positive unmedicated labor and delivery with my daughter. I know they say the second is faster and easier,  but I want to hear from moms who have had two unmedicated births. Was the second faster and easier? Were the births similar overall?

Re: Second Time Difference?

  • That’s the usual buzz, but my first was very fast, just a few hours. My second was 24 hours. There were many environmental differences in my second labor, that were not present in my first, so I’m sure I was negatively impacted. But I think you should prepare for anything, and hopefully it won’t happen like that for you!

  • I know this is old but I'm currently in the same spot (great unmedicated 1st birth, curious what to expect with second.) @lifesabeach85 How did your second end up going?
  • Four pregnancies: I had an epidural with first and couldn't feel a thing. Birth part was great - recovery was HORRIBLE. 2nd baby came so fast I didn't have time for an epidural and recovery was a piece of cake. 3rd- opted not to get an epidural - birth and recovery were the easiest of the 4! 4th one- opted for nothing again. He ended up getting stuck because he was face up. We tried a million positions to turn him but didn't work. The Dr reached up and turned him.  I was begging for an epidural at that point but couldn't do it in case we had to go right into a c-section.  It was horrendous in the moment but he came right out after that.  I think each birth is different but recovery is so much easier if you do it unmedicated!
  • My second was way faster and felt more intense, but it was over so quick I didn’t have time to think about it!

  • Many moms do find the second unmedicated birth to be faster and more manageable since your body "remembers" the process. For me, my second labor was definitely quicker and more efficient, though every birth has its own rhythm. Overall, it felt more familiar and empowering!
  • They were similar in terms of how I labored, but I went into the second birth with more trust in my body, and that helped so much.
