We used one of the many blankets and quilts we received on the floor and something like this (below). It was nice because we could use any toy we wanted, adjust the height with baby chain links for on the floor vs. in a bouncer.
We used a borrowed bouncer when DD was little and got a mamaroo (50% off, it was the display unit) when she was 2 months. She liked it, but I know they're hit or miss for some kids. She would probably have been just fine with any other bouncer, but it was nice to be able to turn it on/off with my phone without needing to get up. The incline is adjustable for newborn up until the infant can sit up, so about 5-6 months for us.
We got a hand-me-down exer-saucer/activity center from a friend which DD loved. I'll be on the lookout for one of those when DD2 is ready for it since I donated it. I can still hear the music playing...
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
We have the basic 4Moms Rockaroo that both DDs loved (hoping this DD is the same). I also toted a boppy lounger around the house with me to rest them in when I was in a different room. We also had a great, basic walker that both girls loved when they got a little bigger, but I heard the AAP is looking to ban them so who knows if new mamas will even be able to get them anymore!
I second the activity mat @mayoduck is referencing. My mom got it for DS on Black Friday when I was pregnant with him for $25. He still plays with the piano at 18 months old. We did lots of tummy time on it and he loved looking at the toys, kicking the piano, and when he was strong enough trying to grab the toys.
DS was never a big fan of the swing but we didn’t have a big fancy one but he loved the rock n’ play.
We used the skip hop activity center. It’s stationary, but DS loved it. I like it because it coverts into a table which he now uses in his playroom. We also had a simple mat we used for tummy time. It had stuff hanging and played music. I’ve heard good things about the piano one too, but we have no experience.
We also had the boppy lounger for when he was really small- maybe 3 months.
As as far as swings go, DS was not a fan. He did love bouncy chairs though and we got a cheap one off of amazon that he used all the time. I would recommend holding off on swings and bouncy chairs because every baby is different.
DD LOVED the Kick and Play Piano, even from a really young age. I was surprised at how much she was into it!
I also recommend any type of jumper for when they can start supporting themselves. Jumping babies are about as cute as it gets, and they seem to really enjoy it, too. I did not register for one, but ended up getting two on Facebook marketplace because she loved it so much and needed to bounce at grandma's house too.
Our daughter never liked her swing, but she loves to swing now, haha.
She enjoyed her bouncer and activity mat that had "jungle" themes.
She loved, loved, loved her jumper. She would go to town.
The boppy pillow was probably her favorite, especially when she began to want to sit on her own. I'd prop her up in the corner of the sectional and she'd just love to look outside.
