Transverse baby?

At 27w4d my baby is between transverse and breech. Head is up by my right ribcage, butt is in right hip, and feet are in left hip.
The feet in my left hip are causing me major pain and cramping.
Baby is fine, cervix is closed, fluid is a good level, etc.
Has anyone dealt with this and was there any way to get relief?

Re: Transverse baby?

  • Pregnancy support belt, certified chiropractic care, stretching, and counter-pressure. Spend as much time in the pool or bathtub as possible; I found the weightlessness helpful.

My last pregnancy Baby A was breech and Baby B was transverse and literally gave me bruised and dislocated ribs, but I was able to carry full term. With just one baby, there is still lots of time for baby to move, so I hope you find relief in the meantime!

  • Transverse babies are painful! DS was transverse most of the time until he finally turned head down and I was in so much pain, same as you describe. Not pleasant. I second the chiropractic care and also suggest doing pregnancy pelvic exercises on a fitness ball to loosen and open your pelvis to allow baby the room it needs to turn. Also check out spinningbabies.com that has a bunch of info and exercises to get baby into a more comfortable position.

  • I’m similar to you but she is transverse with her head pointed more down, kinda diagonal. I have an appt with a prenatal chiropractor next week to start getting adjustments to make sure she has every possible chance to get in the right place. I’m only 27 weeks so it’s not a huge concern yet, but if I start getting closer to 34 weeks I’m gonna be nervous. Trying to be proactive now!

If you're not at 34 weeks yet, don't preoccupy yourself with making baby flip over or move. Baby is likely going to rotate several times between 27 and 34 weeks; his/her internal gyroscope is only just getting in tune, so give baby a chance.

Editing because I clearly didn't read the post correctly... For pain relief, definitely chiro, and talk to your medical care provider. They can do things to help move baby.
  • Baby is still small enough that it will change positions many times between now and late 3rd tri, but there isn't any harm in doing exercises to coax baby into a more comfortable position for your own pain relief now. Spinningbabies.com is not just about positioning baby for labour, it's about positioning baby for pregnancy comfort as well.

  • Thanks ladies!
I'm not as concerned about baby flipping/not flipping as I am about the pain. I'm better today that I was yesterday but I still feel like I've been struck by a Mack truck!
    Definitely calling the chiro today!!
