Re: Which prenatals yall taking

  • I take one a day prenatal gunmies. I like them a lot. But they don't have iron.

  • When I remember to take them, it's some random one from the drug store. Tastes faintly minty, which I think is just put in there to mask the fishy taste.

You could switch to a variety that doesn't contain iron, but you'll want to be careful about that. My iron ended up veeeery low during my first pregnancy, enough that my doctor put me on iron supplements.

  • I take the Honest Company ones. I really like them but they are massive and a bit harder to choke down these days. I also take honest company DHA pills.
  • I took the Vitafusion gummies with my son, and had no problems, so I’m taking them again this time around too.
  • I'm taking a rx brand I think its called complete ob. It's one tiny soft gel that also has dha. I take it only at night. I was taking gummys but I dont like that sugar coating.
  • Maleleuca brand.  You have to order them online but they don't have the nasty fillers that others do.

  • I am taking ones called pearl but my insurance has stopped covering them so I have to find something else.

I believe they all make you constipated and pregnancy, in general,  makes you constipated.  Have you tried adding some fiber to your diet?

  • Most prenatals with iron will make you constipated.  Kind of sucks, but pregnancy also is just good at stuffing you up too, like @expandcontract mentioned.  I have been buying dried apricots and apples lately which have been helping quite a bit in that department, that and I try to eat a salad or a completely vegetarian meal once a day to help up the fiber content.
  • I am taking Nature made with dha. Snacking on dried prunes helps the constipation. Unfortunately, that is also just a fact of pregnancy.
  • I take a generic gummy vitamin. I'm also taking low dose iron since the gummies don't include it. Make sure you're eating a varied diet with fruits and vegetables. That'll keep things moving. Check the iron content on your vitamin. If it's a high dose (over 27 mg I think) that could be causing a back up. Unless you have anemia you probably don't need a dose higher than 25 mg.
  • I don't remember to take them often, but I have the Vitafusion gummies.

  • I've been taking New Chapter Perfect Prenatal vitamins for about 3 years, a few months before we started trying for baby #1. I really love them and they don't upset my stomach at all even if I haven't eaten. Only downside is that they're $$$.

  • Garden of Life organic prenatal multivitamin supplement with folate (one/day)

last time around my dr prescribed one for me, but the dye in it (red) immediately made me question the rest of the ingredients, so I researched more and came across these G of L ones...I've been taking them since for over two years
  • Dude @truth_trust seems to have done a drive-by. Not cool!

  • Nature Made Prenatal + DHA, taking it at night to avoid any nausea.
  • @expandcontract I've seen her around a little bit so I'll be surprised if it's a true drive-by. I'm always surprised that other people don't check in multiple times during the day though.

  • I really like the rainbow light prenatal vitamins. I was taking their prenatal one a day, but switched to their 35+ mom and baby. The one downside is they're huge, but they're food based vitamins which I like. I do have to take separate dha supplements, but I also take additional calcium/magnesium (helps withrestless leg), d3, and probiotics. With the added b6 for nausea, I feel like I robbed a pharmacy!
  • I take the Rainbow light prenatals as well. They don’t help in the constipation, but adding a salad or veggie-only meal once daily plus dried fruits helps me with that.
  • Kirkland prenatal. No issues at all.
  • So...I’m taking these Rx prenatals...it’s 2 pills (pain in the bum) one is a capsule and after taking them all day I burp up the taste of oranges...sorry to gross you all out but just wondered if anyone knows what this is all about?!?

  • I have never had any issues taking my prenatal vitamins with any of my pregnancies but holy cow this pregnancy has been the worst. I wasn’t taking them at all and recently got the gummies so much better!
  • I also do Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw prenatals and then take a DHA supplement.  The downside is there are 3 pills a day, but they're not huge horse pills and so I can swallow them.

  • I didn’t do a drive by!! I’m sorry. Life got a little crazy on my end!!! But I’m still taking the ones that constipate me. I’m gonna try the gummy route but i guess i will have to add a iron supplement.
  • I tried enfamil today because I got samples and I'm out of my gummies. They made me violently ill 😩 so I'm buying more gummies lol.
  • @truth_trust could you please read the instructions before you post anything? The Sex Announcements thread is ONLY for announcements. We don't want any other comments posted in there because otherwise the announcements will get lost.  Please read the instructions on the threads and refrain from posting in that thread unless you're ready to announce the sex of your baby.  Thank you.

  • I was taking the best prenatals that helped me with nausea (OB Petite) but after samples ran out and knowing how much they'll cost (even with insurance) I can't take them anymore. The increase in B6 the pill had vs over the counter prenatals helped ALOT. My question is, is it ok to take over the counter prenatals and add a Vitamin B Complex to go along with it? I've read online that certain B vitamins in excess are not good for baby. Anyone else taking a B complex? Or am I better off just doing B6 on the side?
  • @mamajojo1981 I would just do B6 on the side. If you really want to add a B complex, I'd check with your doctor first. Also, we have a B complex (DH takes but I don't while pregnant) and the B6 in it is minimal compared to the recommended 25mg (I think ours had 2-3mg).
