Re: 2nd Trimester Check-in w/o Oct. 8th

  • Happy Monday!

How far along are you? 20w 3d

    Any appointments? Questions?

check up with OB on Thursday

    Rants/Raves?

My sister in law is due in 2 weeks with their first baby! I'm so excited to find out if baby is a boy or girl and to have a cousin so close in age for our little guy!

How are you feeling? Other than heartburn and aching hips/legs when sleeping I feel great!

GTKY: Has anyone made their pregnancy announcement? If so, what did you do and if not, what are you planning to do?

We told my family right away, H's family at 13 weeks. I sent a picture of a onesie to the family and said, guess what?! As for everyone else, it's become pretty obvious by looking at me. Some people will find out when they get my first shower invite next week though...lol surprise! We're having our shower with Ohio family over Thanksgiving (I'll be about 28 weeks) since we won't be able to travel there again until after baby is born.

I came on to post this like an hour ago, I’m glad I looked at the board first before making a dup!

How far along are you? 23 weeks!

Any appointments? Questions? OB appt Thursday.  I’m curious if they will do any additional monitoring due to the irregular heartbeat even though the echo went well.

Rants/Raves? I have so little patience/tolerance the last week that it’s becoming a problem.

How are you feeling? Ok except the sleeping discomfort.

GTKY: Has anyone made their pregnancy announcement? If so, what did you do and if not, what are you planning to do?  Our families knew right away since I had OHSS and then my whole misdiagnosed miscarriage.  Besides that we did a small gender reveal/pregnancy announcement at DH’s birthday party which was right around 13 weeks.  He posted a thank you on FB which was sort of out public announcement.  Nothing crazy.

  • How far along are you? 15w4d

Any appointments? Questions? Had a belly / heartbeat check last Friday. Was good, but was told they'd send the referral to the high risk doctor just to double check everything. Nothing seems to be wrong, just think it's b/c of age, ivf, etc.

Rants/Raves? Rant: Excited that my mom is moving and will be here in a few weeks. Just not looking forward to driving my grandma 16 hours...it'll prob be fun but dread having to pee all the time!

How are you feeling? Feeling good, but the heartburn / acid reflux was no joke this weekend! Anxiously awaiting amazon with my variety pack of relief lol

GTKY: Has anyone made their pregnancy announcement? If so, what did you do and if not, what are you planning to do?

We've only told family and close friends, no social media announcement yet. My plan is to put something together and make a xmas type announcement on Christmas cards and for social media. It's weird, before everything worked out, I use to dream of making a really cute announcement. Now I'm here dragging my feet like whatever lol

@mayflower513 FX they let you see a specialist. I don't see why they wouldn't refer you to one. Nothing else just as a precaution.

@halips That's super exciting having another baby around so close in age!!

  • I am here early only because 1st Tri is non-existent. Thanks for letting me join you :)

How far along are you? 12+3 (close enough, right?)

Any appointments? Questions? We have our NT scan next week. I am feeling anxious because this is the longest that it's been between appointments. I feel like every pinch, stretch and gas bubble is cause for concern. Last night I had dull pain and then itchiness around my belly button. I am sure it's normal, but again just overly cautious and sensitive.

    Rants/Raves? None right now!

How are you feeling? Depends on the day. Food aversions and nausea are still ruling the roost. My boobs are also killing me. I'm not small to begin with, but I went to Nordstrom last week to get fitted into something that actually fit and I have jumped 3 cup sizes. My goodness.

GTKY: Has anyone made their pregnancy announcement? If so, what did you do and if not, what are you planning to do?  I'm sure we'll include something in our Christmas card but nothing formal on social media. We aren't on facebook and aren't really share-y people. Most of our family and friends already know!

side note: I also went to FCI!
@madasm0530 welcome! My belly button has felt like it's stretching and itchy for the past 6 weeks. Lotion helps a little. I also get the same light pain and itchiness on my abdomen and breasts (which have went up 2 sizes). I was told it's totally normal because your skin is stretching to accommodate baby.

  • @halips How exciting to have a cousin so close in age! Glad you’re feeling great lately.

@mayflower513 So so glad the echo went well. What a relief! I hear you on the sleeping discomfort.

@kristimh80 I feel the same way about announcements. I was so excited to make one, but after going through IF, it’s lost some of the fun. At this point I’m undecided on posting to social media or not.

@JamieH2000 Yay for your little boy! I was also told I likely won’t need more scans. We shall see though! I really want to watch your video, but I’m proctoring an exam in a totally silent room, so it’ll have to wait until later. :)

@madasm0530 Glad to have you here, and you are getting super close to 2nd tri anyway! That’s quite the bra size increase! Wow!

    -----------------

How far along are you? 21+5

Any appointments? Questions? No appointments this week, but I was stressing last week because abdominal pain. Nothing crampy, but it felt like I had gas pains that lasted days. It's mostly (but not totally) gone now. I talked to the midwife, who said there were no red flags in what I described and to watch and wait. That was Saturday, and things seem to be improving since then. I'm not sure if I should make an appointment to go in or not. Thoughts are welcome!

Rants/Raves? I'm feeling overwhelmed by grading at work! I need to stop assigning so many things because then I actually have to read them. On the plus side, I went apple picking with friends this weekend, which was a lot of fun. I made tasty apple crisp last night. Yum!

How are you feeling? See above re: tummy pain. Today is definitely better, but I've really been feeling uncomfortable at night. My SI joints are still a bit weird, and I seem to have developed De Quervains tendonitis in my left hand (I'm right-handed, so it's a bit weird). My students were all concerned about why I'm wearing a wrist brace today! Also, I'm showing a LOT at this point. I'm a bit on the heavier side and have about zero ab strength, so that's probably why, but I feel like I look much more than 21 weeks!

GTKY: Has anyone made their pregnancy announcement? If so, what did you do and if not, what are you planning to do? Before we were diagnosed with IF I was excited about making a social media announcement, but now I'm hesitating and dragging my feet. Everyone close to us and that we see regularly already knows. I may just write an email announcement to send to friends we see less often. I'm not sure if I want to go more public than that or not.

  • I'm sorry I'm not responding to anyone right now but I just go the worst news.
My redraw bloodwork for Trisomy 18 and 21 came back positive...high risk. I'm beside myself. So now I need an amnio to make sure and then if the baby really does have that then we will be terminating. I'm so devastated and haven't been able to stop crying.
  • @drove2u I’m so sorry to hear this.  I don’t know what the odds are and how often false positives happen, but I know they do and I’m so hoping you’re one of them.  When is your amnio, do you know yet?  Hang in there and keep us posted if/when you’re up for it.

  • @mayflower513 thanks! Yeah it's not false positives really. apparently it's your probability but its not a guarantee that something is wrong. still going to drive me crazy until the amnio results. I need to speak with a genetic counselor first. nothing is scheduled yet.
  • @JamieH2000 I had to turn it off after the voicemail because I was going to lose it.  What a beautiful video.

@darkstar42 I had a couple of episodes where I had extreme pain that I thought could have been gas pain but it turns out baby was just sitting on a nerve.  Does your hip/back AND lower belly area hurt?

@halips @kristimh80 @JamieH2000 thank you.  I’m not sure what they’ll say since the MFM that reviewed my scan said he’s not concerned and that I didn’t need any additional monitoring.  I don’t know if he just meant from him or if my OB will say the same.  @jamieh2000 yes, I’m staying away from the Doppler.  Luckily I feel a ton of movement lately so I don’t NEED the doppler anymore lately.

  • @Drove2u I am so sorry to hear about your test results. Keeping my fingers crossed that the amnio looks much better. Sending lots of love your way. <3
@halips You're probably right! It's hard to overcome my natural aversion to doctors visits, but better safe than sorry! :)
@mayflower513 I hadn't thought of that as a possibility! I don't think this is nerve pain, but it's good to know that that can happen. My pain hasn't been intense, more just a diffuse discomfort. Nothing sharp or crampy. The midwife I talked to thought it could be intestinal issues or just uterus growing pains.
@kristimh80 Thank you! I may well do that. My schedule is hectic this week though, so trying to fit in another doctor is stressful!
  • @Drove2u so sorry to hear about the results. Sending positive thoughts and vibes and crossing my fingers you'll get a good result when you do the amnio. I can't imagine what you're going through right now.

How far along are you? 21+1

Any appointments? Questions? Repeat AS tomorrow

    Rants/Raves? Nope

How are you feeling? Okay. Not ym best but definitely not my worse. Just tired but that's a given when you have toddlers in the house.

GTKY: Has anyone made their pregnancy announcement? If so, what did you do and if not, what are you planning to do? We told our close family after the first ultrasound. I announced on FB once I was out of the first trimester because we have a lot of good friends overseas so it was easier. I put the picture of the positive HPT from 2014 I used when we announced our first pregnancy and under it a picture of a current positive HPT (I took just for the announcement) and wrote 2018 on it and posted "here we go again" with some basic details.

@madasm0530- welcome! good luck on your NT scan! It will be some good reassurance!

@halips- sorry I made you (and so many others) cry at work! I loved FCI. I emailed Dr. Rodgers and her nurse team today with the video since I wanted them to see how they have helped changed our life and they sent back the sweetest notes!

@decemberdoll27- aww thank you girl! Glad you liked it!

@mag1cbeli3ver- thank you for the kind words! We all have definitely gone through alot to get it, but it was getting to the point that my Low AMH board on IF couldn't even believe how much stuff went wrong or set us back. I am just feeling so blessed to FINALLY be on this side!

@kristimh80- we started filming duing IUIs 2.5 years ago- never expecting it to be this long of a journey!

@darkstar42- i have been having on and off abdominal pain too- likely gas. Its so scary! But hopefully its all ok... definitely scary though.

@drove2u- That is so scary.. that is terrifying! I hope they can get you in for an amnio right away! A girl on my BMB had hers come back higher risk, like 1 in 77 i think, but it turned out fine. I am sending all my prayers that you are on the favorable side of whatever statistical risk they gave you. Please keep us posted!

@mayflower513- i promise it got much happier after the voicemail! We tried to keep a balance between sad and happy, but wanted to keep it real so others would understand what going through this process is like. That is awesome you feel so much movement- gives me hope to feel more soon too!

@more14- good luck with the AS! what images couldn't they get the first time?

  • @darkstar42 I’ve also had a lot of round ligament pain which was more dull.  Kind of like a light low side stitch that didn’t go away for hours or even days (and sometimes on one side sometimes on both).  Sometimes (not during the same periods of the dull pain) it would also be sharper or hurt more when I would move my leg.. 2 different OBs said it was RLP even though I was sure it wasn’t.  Apparently sometimes it feels different than the sharp stabby pain when moving.

  • Holy cow...I need to get in on these check-ins quicker before they explode! Yesterday was Thanksgiving in Canada so I was off doing the turkey thing with family, hence why I am late to the check-in once again. Happy Thanksgiving to the few other Canadian mamas here (and those of you in lurkerdom)!

@halips Yay for cousins close in age! I never wanted kids close together (I'm just not cut out for that) but it's nice when there are cousins around that are the same age so they can grow up together and hopefully share some great memories.

@mayflower513 Last week my irritability/lack of patience was insane. I couldn't even stand myself, I don't know how anyone else did!

@kristimh80 Same. I have really been dragging my feet and just feel better keeping things on the DL right now. There have been so many FB announcements from friends due the same time/after me, but oh well.

@JamieH2000 Beautiful video! I hope one day I'm able to share our journey too. Not a lot of people even know that secondary infertility is a thing, so it would be nice to raise awareness that people struggle to build their families under many different circumstances. I definitely got teary-eyed watching - you did a great job at capturing the rawness of your journey but I felt like there was so much hope and perseverance that came through as well.

@madasm0530 Welcome! Three cup sizes is crazy! I was totally unaware that you could get stretch marks on your breasts but mine got crazy big fast with DD and I was left with a bunch of really deep ones. Hope you escape unscathed!

@darkstar42 Glad you are feeling better but I totally understand how anxiety-inducing any abdominal pain can be. I have had so much on/off pain and cramping this entire pregnancy and it's always a struggle to talk myself off the ledge. So far mine can be chalked up to gas, constipation, RLP, stretching, and a pulled muscle here and there, but until I can figure out what it is in hindsight, I'm a mess. Also, my pain seems to come and go in chunks of 3-ish days. I'll have pain, I'll feel better for a few days, and then some other kind of pain creeps in for another few days. As I get farther and farther along every twitch or pang is becoming less scary, so I hope it's the same for you too!

@drove2u I am so sorry for the all the stress and worry you are feeling right now. Was this the NIPT that came back positive or just the regular 1st tri screening? My general first tri screening came back positive as well (1/40 for Down Syndrome) so then I had a genetics consult and did the NIPT and that came back low risk (1/10,000) so we never proceeded with the amnio. Hopefully you are able to get in to genetics quickly. I got an appointment within a week (I was 13 weeks at the time) and then if I wanted the amnio the earliest they will do it is 15 weeks so I would have had to wait for that, but they told me amnio results are back next day so hopefully it's a quick turnaround for you and you will have answers soon. When the genetics counselor explained everything to me it became extremely apparent that this is all a numbers game and the slightest change in parameters can really make the numbers jump (like they screwed up on my ER date so my embryo was one month younger than they had accounted for and my risk went from 1/35 to 1/40....um, OK...), so FX the probability is still in your favour and babe is healthy and happy in there. Please keep us updated if you're feeling up to it.

@more14 Good luck with your A/S today!

  • Thank you all. I spoke with a genetic counselor on the phone and found out a few alarming, but good things from her.
    1. My fetal fraction was really low 1% so the results i received were based on an algorithm only which were based on my age (37--high risk), weight (I'm not really fat, but maybe I have a high BMI) and some other things. Basically my results were based on statistics. so, really inaccurate. the results were not based from my blood.
    2. they couldn't even tell gender because of low fetal fraction
    3. It showed I am high risk for Trisomy 18, 13 and triplioty (spelling, no idea) but good news is, Trisomy 21 did not show which is down syndrome which is the most common.
    4. My ratio of have these 3 abnormalities are 1/17--again simply based on an algorithm not my blood

So in about 20 minutes I'm talking with another GC from the Panorama lab so that will be interesting. Will he try to convince me that the results are 99% accurate?
There was a specimen error when I took this test the first time and it came back inconclusive. now, I'm getting these results.
My doctor yesterday really freaked out and kept saying "I'm sorry" to me and to think about termination. now, I have higher hopes for this turning out to be ok.
But still not out of the woods. I have an ultrasound tomorrow, then speak to genetic counselor in person. I have an amnio scheduled, but I think I will make a decision on doing that based on ultrasound findings.
This is seriously the most stressful thing I've gone through. I cry at the thought of terminating.
  • @Drove2u I'm glad you got to speak with the genetic counselor quickly and got some more information. My understanding was that they didn't report findings if fetal fraction was that low and just coded them as "inconclusive" so strange that they would actually give you a risk probability based on 1% of fetal DNA. And also, SHAME on your doctor for bringing up the termination conversation this early on. S/he should know better than that. My doctor reported the results to me, let me know that it was all based on statistics and not to worry too much yet until we had further testing done, and then referred me to genetics. Even the genetics counselor wouldn't really talk termination until my results were back from the additional testing. She answered any questions I had (mainly about the gestation cut-off for TFMR) but basically just said to wait for additional results and we could cross that bridge if we got to it. I am sorry that on top of the stress of the numbers, you have also had to deal with a very insensitive doctor who should have more sense. A 1/17 risk equates to 5.88%, which means 94.12% chance baby is healthy. The numbers are still on your side. Good luck with your ultrasound tomorrow. I will be thinking of you.

  • @tosh24 thanks so much. I just spoke with the GC from the lab and she basically told me what I knew already. They are re-running the algorithm because they based it on my current age and not the age I was when the embryos were frozen (35) she said it still puts me at high risk, but you're totally right. It's such a numbers game. Apparently nothing is a guarantee, everything is a screening, including ultrasound and an amnio will be the only yes/no we could receive. But with that comes risk of course. Just so crazy! I'm sorry that you had to go through something similar. Well, tomorrow, I hope to find out more.
  • How far along are you? 27+1 This is my last week posting in 2nd tri  :o

Any appointments? Questions? I have some blood work scheduled for Thursday that I have to do in preparation for my Rhogam injection appointment next week. I have had Rhogam 5 times in the last 12 years which the hospital has on file. You'd think they wouldn't have to check my blood type again for the millionth time before they give me another shot. It's not like your blood type changes.....

Rants/Raves? DH worked super hard this weekend and got the nursery cleaned out and most of the furniture set up. I love walking by and peeking in....seems so surreal! The dresser still needs to be moved upstairs, I need to find a rug that goes with the grey/cream colour palette, and I need to shorten some floor length grey curtains that we had on hand and are going to reuse, but then everything is pretty much done!

How are you feeling? Pretty good. My left SI joint is killing me and between the hip pain and insomnia I dread going to bed every night, but otherwise things are good. I showed up to Thanksgiving dinner yesterday with my big ol' belly so now my family finally knows I'm pregnant. Somewhat anxiety-inducing and somewhat of a relief. My mom asked if she can tell everyone now and I told her no. Other family members will just find out as I see them. Not into the big announcement this time around.

GTKY: Has anyone made their pregnancy announcement? If so, what did you do and if not, what are you planning to do? No announcement at all, especially no social media announcement. I will probably make a post once our newborn photos are done that captures the journey it took to get to that point, but that's about it.

  • @drove2u So happy you talked to the GC and she helped ease your mind! I'm with you, I wouldn't make any decisions until like you said, you get a better ultrasound. I can't believe they scared you over statistics and not actual facts / bloodwork. Hang in there girl! We are here for you...I can't imagine how nerve-wracking this all has you right now.

@tosh24 Boo! So bittersweet having you graduate 2nd tri! We will miss you!! Awe seeing the nursery is so much fun! We finally got our crib & dresser in there and I'm always peeking in there too! MH all the sudden thinks he has a clue about decorating though lol :# Glad you were able to see family and they all know now. Your littles will be here so soon! <3

@drove2u that is crazy.  Did they give a reason as to why the fetal fraction could be low again and at this point?  Do you have your AS scheduled yet?  Is the amnio something that can be done now or do you have to be a certain number of weeks?

  • @tosh24 are you looking for a light or dark rug?

We ordered this one one (we did see it in a store and it’s nicer and soft in person) and it said backordered til 1/16 but I figure whatever if there’s no rug at first since baby will be in my room.  We also only ended up paying like $197 all in for it for a 5x8.

I also had my eye on this one before we saw that one.

  • @Drove2u
I'm so sorry if you have to go through this mess! I was doing some reading and alot of journal articles indicated that positive trisomy 18 (in particular) is rarely associated with normal u/s. By 14 weeks, 92% of trisomy 18 can be detected from abnormalities in the u/s -- and by 18 weeks, it's basically 100%.  As my dad told me when I was freaking out that they couldn't get good spine pictures at the A/S, these things don't happen in a vacuum. If everything looks good in the scans, I would hold onto that and remain positive. (And we did get the pictures at the next visit, baby had just been very uncooperative at the A/S!)

I didn't get NIPT screening because of the vanishing twin but it's important to remember, as your GC probably told you, that it's a screening tool, not a diagnostic one. and if your fetal fraction is low, it's even less useful as a screening tool. It's like the 1 hr gestational diabetes test -- it casts a wide net so it can get as many cases as possible. The actual portion of people who fail the 1 hr who actually have GD is around 30-40 percent according to my doctor. The NIPT is a similar tool.

    @JamieH2000
I loooooved your video!! It captures the whole journey so well and even though I didn't go through nearly as much as you have, I was tearing up by the end. My baby girl was on my lap when I was watching it and she was smiles throughout -- I guess she liked your faces! It was super cute since  she's also a miracle baby!

"When all is lost then all is found."

  • mayflower513  low fetal fraction could come up if:
    1. if test was done too early in the pregnancy, which it was not
    2. You're overweight--which I'm not and this was confirmed. I would have to be over 200lbs which I'm not even close.
    3. Small placenta: which would be very worrying
    4. Just random and because everyone is different
    Tomorrow at 9:30am I:
    1. Get an ultrasound
    2. Talk with a genetic counselor
    3. Amnio Scheduled

I guess after an ultrasound and speaking with a genetic counselor we will determine an amnio. An amnio is the only diagnostic. Blood work and Ultrasound are screening and never 100% accurate.

mbradfo2 thanks so much! I had an ultrasound done around 13-14 weeks and everything looked normal. Now I'm 16 weeks. and yes things could totally be normal still but I'm still freaking out. lol.
  • Thank you, everyone.
AS went well, baby girl was cooperative and I think the technician was more experienced and that makes a difference.
Just got the call from the office that everything looks good so I can relax for the next two weeks until my glucose test.

@Drove2u still keeping my fingers crossed for good test results. It's a crazy rollercoaster.
  • @tosh24 happy last week in 2nd tri! and yay for nurseries! We just painted, and put up the crib and curtains in ours. It's so encouraging to peek in and see it! I'm sorry you're still experiencing hip pain and insomnia. Hopefully you get some relief soon!
@Drove2u sending lots of good wishes for tomorrow!
    @more14 great news!!
