  • GL at all the appointments this week!

@katy0990 Congrats on passing the test!
@scaredunprepared My weight has gone up a lot too - like 4 pounds in a week! I'm thinking baby bean had another growth spurt, but now that puts me over what our initial total weight gain goal was, so... I'm expecting to hear something on Thursday at my appt. FX neither one of our OB's is concerned!
@lexidawg How has the swelling in your leg been lately? Hopefully it's been better since you've been working from home more often.

  • 32-week appointment was uneventful this afternoon!
But I got a surprise when she said, "see you in two weeks... then every week after that!" GD, GD!
  • @hoosiermama-2 is that because of gd? My Dr told me today we'd start weekly appts at 35or 36 weeks and im not gd...
  • Now that I think of it, it is just one extra appointment. She did say because of GD when I asked if that was normal - but must've been referring to just that extra one.
  • @mag1cbeli3ver good luck to you!  Like you, I hope both our OBs aren't concerned!  Baby girl definitely has had a growth spurt, but that doesn't explain ALL the weight.
  • @katy0990 @Katzalia My OB prefers TDAP immediately after birth instead of third tri. Normally I think I’d be okay with that small delay, but my SMIL is an anti-vaxxer now and I want kid to be covered as best possible if she disregards our distance requests. (Pretty unlikely she’ll show up unannounced though, she never comes to see DH and I (because she's "allergic" to our dogs - not her dog, just ours))

  • @echo-charlietango  I wonder if your OB  is following outdated regulations, because in 2016, when my son was born, receiving the vaccine postpartum, was the norm. Apparently, they only changed the recommendation recently because of the increase in whooping cough cases, due to the non-vaxxers. I would ask if you can just get it at your next appointment. If not, your PCP should be able to Give it to you.
  • @maureenmce I am sorry to hear that you are anemic. I hope you are able to change it with diet. Idk much about high iron foods to recommend, but you may want to start taking a still softener, as a precaution.
  • @katy0990 He might be following an outdated reg - since this is my firstie, I have been totally unaware of prior TDAP recommendations.

@maureenmce I'm certain that he'd understand if I tell him about the anti-vaxxers! Guess what I'm bringing up tomorrow

    Re:Iron
I was also *barely* anemic too, from the blood taken with my GTT. We also agreed that dietary changes are all I need, so more red meat for that good heme-iron, and more nuts and beans for non-heme. Cashews and prunes are my jam now. In addition to cheeseburgers because I heart cheeseburgers. Oh, and I cook in cast iron as much as possible, so we're eating a little more chili than usual :yum:

  • @maureenmce My go-to recommendation is to get a bottle of Floradix from Amazon. It's just a little shot of sweet iron-rich juice you take once a day, and I haven't noticed that it's constipating at all. It does turn my pee yellow though! (Don't know if it's also B-vitamin rich or what.) I haven't gotten my iron results back yet, so we'll see if what I'm preaching actually makes a difference!

    Other than that. Beeeeeef.

@maureenmce This is totally an Eastern European thing and can gross some people out but liver is a great source of iron. Liver + onions + mashed potatoes are a comfort food for me ;)

Edit: and now I want some..

  • @PensiveCrayon I have heard recommendations for Floradix more and more, wouldn’t hurt to try it eh?

@ab_canada Mmm, I actually love liver & onions, but this part of the USA fries the hell out of most meats and it’s sad really. Maybe I just need to get serious about making it myself. Any recipe recommendations?

  • @echo-charlietango my 10w blood work showed I was a little anemic. Dr actually prescribed me Floradix twice a day.  I have been bad and haven't taken it in a while. But because I am having my blood work next week I am definitely taking it now!
  • @PensiveCrayon Thanks for the Floradix rec - I'd never heard of that before! I'll have to look into it!

Btw, did you guys know that a serving of pumpkin seeds have as much iron as a 1/4 burger??? 15% of your daily needs! The more you know (after googling iron rich food all day.)

@ab_canada My mom actually loves liver and onions but I've never tried it. I suppose now is a good time to give it a whirl, though not sure about the onions and my reflux - but they're cooked, so maybe it'll be ok!
  • @maureenmce I’ve been borderkine anemic too but they said still “pretty good for a pregnant lady” so I am just supposed to keep working on dietary sources. It’s a good excuse for extra steak or burgers. I also have been doing tons of spinach — either in salads, steamed or sauteed with butter & lemon, or cooked with pasta, basil, & cheese. Other high iron foods I eat a lot are eggs, black beans, and yes, pumpkin seeds (I put them on salads or in oatmeal).

@echo-charlietango My understanding is the reason to do the Tdap during pregnancy is to confer some immunity to babe in utero.  Current ACOG recs suggest best timing is the earlier the better within the range of 27-36 weeks gestation:

  • @echo-charlietango I also cannot wait on my back without feeling lightheaded, did your babies I also cannot wait on my back without feeling lightheaded, due to baby’s position. I’m glad you will be getting TDAP during pregnancy!
