Re: Week 1 (Due 4/1-4/7) Check In w/o 10/1

  • Due date: 4/2

Any appointments? Questions?: I have to get blood redrawn for NIPT, set up an appointment with my primary care to authorize progesterone shots, and have something in my calendar labeled as “2nd tri” which could be anything.

Rants/Raves?: thought I maybe felt movement last night but then DD flopped on top of me and started biting while nursing so...mixed bag over here

Also, we never got to weekly appointments last time. They are seriously disruptive to one’s week.

How are you feeling?: tired- I keep waking up at 2 or 3 and not getting back to sleep. DD woke up with me last night and we stared at each other for 15 min before she fell into a restless sleep.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? Astronaut! And I flew for the Navy for a while, but am settling into hospitality/ Airbnb/ property management/ travel guide stuff now.

  • @lyse01 Movement?! Oh, that's so exciting. I'm a FTM and I have an anterior placenta, so I've accepted the fact that I might not feel movement for a couple more months. I hope your sleepless nights get better! Also, I think being an astronaut would be super cool! It's not too late!

    Due date: 4/1

Any appointments? Questions?: No appointments for another couple of weeks, but I'm feeling calm about the waiting between appointments now that I've seen the healthy little baby. No questions.

Rants/Raves?: Rave - Very comforted about my NIPT and 1st trimester screen results. It's a very medically boring pregnancy so far, and I'm grateful. Also, it was fun to go to Buy Buy Baby this past weekend to try out strollers, carriers, and cribs to see what felt right. Rant - My husband and I share a car, and that car broke down yesterday. Other than the inconvenience of not having a car right now while it's in the shop, I'm trusting this car less because it's breaking down all the time, which is not a good place to be with a baby on the way. :/ On top of that, I bike to work, and last week I was inches away from getting hit by car, which has really shaken my confidence. The car was turning right across a bike lane, and didn't notice me lawfully biking in the bike lane through the intersection.

How are you feeling?: YAY! TODAY IS MY FIRST DAY OF THE SECOND TRIMESTER! I really think I'm starting to feel better. Bouts of nausea are now constrained to small segments of the day, instead of an all-day struggle. However, I've been feeling *really* tired, almost like I'm Benadryl-sedated, between 3 pm and 7 pm most days and naps do nothing but make me feel worse. If I can force myself to exercise a little during the 'sedation', it can help, but it's a huge psychological struggle to make that happen.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? I don't remember what I wanted to be when I was very little, but when I was in middle school I wanted to go into the military and be an engineer. I decided to go the civilian route, but I'm still an engineer and also a scientist.

  • @loveanddatadriven it is in fact too late :) somewhere around the end of freshman year of college when I dropped engineering in favor of linguistics, I started getting the wrong degrees for NASA’s astronaut corps. My eyes disqualify me from being a pilot, my degrees from mission or payload specialist. My only hope is learning Russians and gaining exceptional wealth. On the other hand, I know a lot of people through naval aviation that are close friends with astronauts, so I occasionally interact with them on Facebook.

also, grrr to that car. Bad timing for it to break down!
  • @loveanddatadriven I'm a FTM as well, we have a car that has been broken down also, I'm glad you're okay from your near-bike-accident!
Also, our heat has been out for a year now and we have just saved up the money to replace the old unit with a new, bigger unit! But the guy can't come out for at least another couple of weeks. 2 postives: we live in the south and I'm pregnant so I'm generating more heat anyway.

    Due 4.2

    No appointments

Question: Has anyone started a registry yet or is planning a Reveal or Shower?

I am excitedly waiting on my Welcome Box from Amazon to arrive (yeah, I know it's early). A friend asked to plan both events for us so we will have a Reveal in a couple months and a Shower in Feb.

Raves: Consignment shops are the best right now!

I'm feeling great aside from the guilt from not eating 100% healthy 100% of the time. Keeping my little guy or girl healthy means so much to me, but Mom needs a meal for Mom now and then.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?

    First a horse 🐎 then a vet 🏥

Are you anything close to that now?

    No, I work with kids.

  • @loveanddatadriven you described my exact state. I spent all weekend in an exhausted slump. I am so frustrated because I want that second trimester energy soooo badly...my house could really use some love right now!

    Due date: 4/2/18 LAST DAY OF FIRST TRIMESTER ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Any appointments? Questions?: No appointments for a couple of weeks. I was going to ask if anyone else was experiencing extreme exhaustion, but am relieved to see that you are. Like others mentioned above, from about 4-7 each day I feel like a complete zombie.

Rants/Raves?: I am just excited that the worst part is over. I mentioned last week that we got NIPT results back and I'm baking a low risk, healthy baby girl. Life is good. We told his parents and they weren't rude- they weren't over the moon excited- but they weren't rude (!!!) I'll take it.

How are you feeling?: See above. :)

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? I wanted to be a dentist. I am not in research administration for a higher ed institute.

    Married: 11/2011

    DD-7/2015
Sweet Angel Boy born too soon 12/17/17
    EDD-4/2019

  • Due date: April 3

Any appointments? Questions?: Nah  Went to the clinic about this sinus cold on the weekend and was told I have to suffer through the old fashioned way.  We are not amused.  I have also somehow lost 1kg since my last appt. WTF, meandering appetite?

Rants/Raves?: Dicovered a new podcast called “Grownups Read Things They Wrote As Kids” and it is pretty funny

How are you feeling?:  See above. I’m also either ravenous or totally turned off of food but that cravings bug is hitting me hard lately!

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?

I wanted to be a graphic designer or a teacher or be in the WNBA.

Are you anything close to that now?

I’m a Jr High art teacher and also coach basketball, so....? Pretty close?

  • @mighty_montgomery hooray for finally being able to afford the new heater! We’ve been trying to save for some heat pumps and it is such a drag to look at the amount we’ve spent on electricity the past two years and know we’d have already paid for the heat pump...if only we had that money on hand two years ago!

I also feel like I need to get on top of my registry. It’s only 12 weeks to when DD was born and I’d rather have it done by 24 weeks. I’m hopeful someone will offer to throw a party once we formally announce.
  • @lyse01 I think I'm feeling faint flutterings, I'm a STM and all my STM+ friends swear you feel movement earlier with each pregnancy.

@loveanddatadriven I'm glad you're ok and didn't get hurt - people really suck when it comes to bicyclists.

@mighty_montgomery amazon welcome box, can you let us know if it was worth getting? Is it free?

    Due date: 4/5

Any appointments? Questions?: I'm with you guys on the exhaustion, I need 2nd trimester energy to show up.  Kinda glad I don't have to go through 1st trimester during the holidays.

Rants/Raves?: My rant is that I'm frustrated with my aunt.  She's not returning my calls and I've tried 3-4x in the past week.  I tried going to her house on Saturday (it's 50 minutes from me) but she wasn't home.  I want to tell her about baby so I can tell the rest of the family (my parents and brother/SIL know but they know not to tell anyone else yet).  There's a long backstory I won't get into here but I'm just frustrated about it.

How are you feeling?: I'm either exhausted, nauseous, or totally fine. But the totally fine is rare and doesn't last long.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? I wanted to be an astronomer or an astronaut but then I found out you need to be good at math to do those jobs so then I wanted to be a teacher.  I taught 7th grade for 2 years and it was hell.  Now I work in corporate training.

  • @gollygeeitsamy Yay, teaching and I totally get why you upgraded to adults, haha.
  • Due date: April 7

Any appointments? Questions?: No appointments, but a couple of questions..
-When is second trimester? Is it this week (week 13) or next week? I seem to read varied responses.
-Just learned about getting the pertussis/whooping cough/dtap/tdap shot. Did anyone get this already? Do you know when a doctor is supposed to give it to you? I go to a midwife so I think I need to go to an MD to get it, I don't think she administers them but she told me about it

Rants/Raves?: Too much school, not enough fun. Last week and this week slammed me with tasks and assignments for my class and research lab. But I'm thankful that I'm starting to regain energy!

How are you feeling?: More energetic, finally. Not like I can start training for a marathon but at least I don't feel like I need to fall asleep every hour and can go back to my usual tasks for the most part. Still have nausea, mostly around when I have to take my vitamins and enzyme. Also experiencing what I think is round ligament pain--sharp twinges here and there around my uterus. Generally feeling pretty good and have the tiniest bump.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? I wanted to be a ballerina, and at one point an astronaut. I'm now a PhD student in applied economics....so somewhere in between?

  • *lurking from week 3*

@aggie0812 you usually get that vaccination in the second trimester. Second trimester starts "officially" at 13 weeks 4 days.
  • Due date: 4/1

Any appointments? Questions?: appointment on Friday, excited to hear the heartbeat.

Rants/Raves?:  Raves: my family was so thrilled when we announced on Saturday, lots of happy tears.  Rants: my sister is already being obnoxious about us choosing her as the Godmother.  My other rants are all work related- I hate unprofessional people.  Call me back darn it!

How are you feeling?: Good, still tired at times (slept all day Sunday, and took a nap yesterday) but only nauseous if I don’t eat, or eat too much sugar now.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? Wanted to be a lawyer, studied Political Science in college.  Didn’t go to law school, worked for attorneys instead.  Hated it.  Went back to school to be a teacher.  💜 teaching and the kids.  Hate the political crap that’s involved with getting a job, and with keeping your job no matter how good you are.  Left teaching, am now a realtor.  So I write contracts (ok, fill in the blanks), which has to do with laws, kind of?  😂

  • @lyse01 I hope someone will offer to throw you a party as well!
One-off: A friend of mine is having her third child. She has 2 boys and if she has a girl I hope someone will be willing to throw her a sprinkle. I've considered offering but I'm not sure what my ability to host would be like. She's due a month or two after us.

@gollygeeitsamy I will definitely let y'all know! Estimated delivery date is Oct. 12-17. It has mixed reviews online. Amazon values it at $35, and you can buy it for a total cost of $37.10, but it's mostly sample products so many people have said actual value is more like $20-$25. You can receive it free by creating an Amazon Baby Registry, being a Prime Member (this requirement can be met during the Free Trial period),  and checking every box in the Registry (you can click an empty box to check it rather than adding an item from each sub-category to meet this requirement).
@mrstmoose I lurk on other weeks too...

  • Due date: April 2

    Any appointments? Questions?:

No appointments this week, still waiting on the results of my first trimester blood work and second NIPT test.

    Rants/Raves?:

Feeling oddly mellow today. Work is mind numbingly dull and not challenging but I have a good job that I usually enjoy so I can't complain.

    How are you feeling?:

When will the fatigue lift???? Also, anyone else suffering from chronic yeast infections?

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now?

I wanted to be a psychiatrist but realized that chemistry was not my thing in university. Now I am a policy analyst and data scientist, who sometimes works on mental health policy, so kind of related.

@aggie0812 what's your area of research? My Masters research was focused on the impact of automation on the labour market by race and gender, and I have a bit of a novice nerd obsession with labour economics

  • @happymoni21 I had chronic yeast infections when I had my IUD but luckily not with pregnancy.  If you're trying to treat at home with OTC meds call your doctor to get a prescription cream. I found that taking probiotics helped and limiting yeast and sugar in my food (I went on keto) really helped.
  • @gollygeeitsamy I have mentioned it to my doctor every time I see her and she just keeps directing me to use the OTC stuff for longer and longer (I just completed a 14 day cycle and it came back three days later!). Now I am with a midwife but I think I will go back to my doctor and ask for a prescription.

Good advice on the yeast and sugar, I will give that a try. Thanks!
  • Due date: April 5

Any appointments? Questions?:I don’t have another appointment until another couple of weeks and I’m anxious to hear baby’s heartbeat again. QUESTION- I have been having diarrhea pretty often lately (tmi I know) but I was wondering is this normal or something I should talk to my doctor about?

Rants/Raves?: My husband as been a complete angel since the day I found out I was pregnant. I’ve been terribly sick so he has taken care of all of the cooking and cleaning around the house. I literally haven’t done anything since I’ve been pregnant and it’s been so nice.

How are you feeling?: Still throwing up daily. I was prescribed something by my OB to help with nausea but it hasn’t been helping. Just praying that it goes away soon.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? I wanted to be an actress. Used to go on auditions and everything. I’m no where near that now lol. I just stop teaching to prepare to be a SAHM.

  • @Knottie11909650 the change in BMs is normal due to hormonal changes and if you've been eating a lot of fiber rich foods that can speed things up as well.

@happymoni21 I find it odd they keep telling you to use OTC when it's obviously not working. Can you call to ask for a prescription without going in? I was able to do that once they knew I was positive when I kept getting them. I had them check during my pap and the doctor immediately said if it was positive she'd call in a cream for me. You sadly can't take the pill diflucan during pregnancy, that is a miracle drug.

  • @happymoni21 totally makes sense you're nerding out, I am too just reading about your master's research! I'm more on the human behavior side, studying welfare take-up rates and hidden motivations behind them. I also have a policy background
  • @aggie0812 very cool! Before I went back to school I worked on social assistance and income security policy, but more focused on basic income models.
  • Due date: April 2nd

    Any appointments? Questions?:

Rants/Raves?: this week I developed hemorrhoids :( I am so uncomfortable and pretty upset that this could have happened so early! Last pregnancy I didn’t get them until after the birth. I’m quite worried that they will just get worse and worse from here on out. It’s also made me worry about varicose veins. Lmk if you have any preventative tips for these things!

How are you feeling?: getting over a horrible cold. Glad to have less nausea, good healthy appetite and more energy returning.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now? As a little girl I wanted to be a Doctor in a poor country, to help people. Now I’m an Advocate for public health- preventing health issues by reducing toxic chemicals in our environment etc. so somewhat related!

  • @laurainoakland I'm sorry about your hemorrhoids! I used to get them from weight lifting even without being pregnant. Definitely talk to your health care provider about it. If constipation is contributing, there are lots of safe things you can take. It always bugged me when my doctor would tell me just to eat more fiber because I eat a ton of fruit and veggies and it made me feel like she wasn't taking me seriously... But in all seriousness, drinking water, cardio exercising, and eating oatmeal usually help me. Wish I could be more helpful. I'm sure hemorrhoids are coming for me, too, and I'll be back asking for advice myself.
  • Due date: April 7th

Any appointments? Questions?: next appointment is October 30th just it's just a plain 15min one to listen to heartbeat

Rants/Raves?: my current big one is my aunts want to throw me my baby shower which is awesome but being due so early in April has turned it into a not fun thing for me. Me and my mom asked them approximately when they were wanting to plan for because they want an invite list from me (gives me a timeline of when I need to get that for them because I feel invited should be sent out a month or more before the party) and they said they dont want to start planning or really thinking about it until 2019. Well they have to travel and I know weather is bad in winter so they wont want to do it with snow which worries me because if they aren't even going to think about it until January that means either my guests are going to get next to no notice or they seriously are planning to do this in March! I'd rather skip it at that point. It's really stressing me out thinking about it.

How are you feeling?: ok mostly, my body hates me but I feed it fiber and it forgives me

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  Are you anything close to that now?:

Honestly I was one of the kids who didnt know what I wanted to be when I grew up except to be a grown up.
