Sick with a cold

Is this the way our parents and grandparents felt before decongestant medication? I will never take cold pills for granted again. When I get colds, I usually take a bunch of meds and sleep if off in a day. Turns out when you can’t take meds, you can’t breathe, and when you can’t breathe, you can’t sleep. Using essential oils, lemon & honey, steam, Vic’s vaporub (most effective treatment so far), losenges, massage.  Just needed to rant. I hope today’s the turning point.

    I feel ya! This is the second cold I've gotten in 10 weeks! My daughter is 2 and a little germ magnet. Feel better soon!

    @LifeofLauren2 you too! I’m a teacher, so that’s where I probably picked it up! Why do kids have to be so gross haha
    I also finally get the scene in Pride & Prejudice when Jane gets a cold at Mr Bingley’s and is sick in bed for several days there.

    @suchagoodone I'm a teacher too, and I've been sick for the last month that we've been back to school!  Not sure if it's germs from the kids or my body trying to fight off the return to work...

    Ugh I got one over Labor Day and haven’t been able to breath properly since. It’s especially bad when I’m trying to sleep, propped up works the best but even then I still sometimes have issues. And also a stiff neck. :(

    My husband was sick last week and I thought I might have lucked out...until I woke up this morning drooling on myself.

    Try a saline nasal rinse, like NetiPot or NeilMed Sinus rinse(I use mine in the shower). It’s not as good as sudafed but it does help

    Went back to the doc this morning. I can handle being sick but I can’t handle going 3 nights on zero sleep because I can’t breathe when I sit or lie down. My cold has turned into a full blown sinus infection, spreading to my throat. I was given antibiotics and have already been able to nap for 2 hours. Hoping to feel at least rested enough to drive myself to work tomorrow after missing 3 days.  14 weeks today so hopefully LO is ok with everything I’ve been going through!

    @suchagoodone That really sucks, I'm glad they are getting you sorted out though!

    @heather0128 My husband also had a cold last week and I was super careful...but woke up this morning with a bad sore throat (which was also his first symptom)

    Have you guys tried Breathe Right Strips? They are my favorite thing for colds/allergies. I'm an odd ball who has literally never taken medication for a cold in my life so unless this one hits me super hard I'll just be normal for me level miserable from it. I think my parents were against the medications ("unnecessary"), and it never occurred to me to try them as an adult.

    Drink lots of OJ. For some reason that works great for me. I had a cold coming on last week and downed about 5 cups each day and it's gone.

    I ditto @blueberrymomma ideas. I will also add to take a hot shower with lots of steam and that should help open you up. I work at a school too so I get not having many PTO/sick days but maybe take tomorrow off so you can get some extra rest?

    Oh man, I got hit hard today too. My throat is very red and angry, I’ve got cankers in my mouth, and I have next level appetite and exhaustion issues. HALP.

    I'm on the rebound after a rough 2-3 days. Lots of water and a few doses of Tylenol to get me through the night seemed to do the trick. Glorious to be breathing through my nose today 🤗

    @candicek15 Salt water gargle! I was avoiding it because of the gag factor but it really helped once I started. I also have been thinking of that Leslie Knope quote for a few days!!!
