STMs and co...DS will be 3.5 when this LO is born. Advice on strollers? I feel like DS will be nearing the end of strollerdom and so I’m completely unsure what to get. We are a pedestrian, city living family and walk everywhere.
I was set on this which has the seat in the back that DS can sit or stand on:
But DS is still into his stroller and gets tired walking and likes to sleep in it still... so I thought maybe this:
I don't like in-line strollers and would get a side by side over the second one.
I know a lot of people like sit and stands - it wasn't a great option for us since DD was only 2 when DS1 was born. I'm just buying a stroller board for our City Mini GT Double for her.
I’ve got one for 2+ mamas. Did any of you need to use a different brand of diapers than your first? I know it’s all about body shape. Money is going to be tight so I’d really like to stock up on diapers that DD used. Another girl. Really hoping I don’t have one with a Pampers butt and one with a Huggie butt.
@kayjay44 why double wide rather than the straight ahead? I'm thinking about doorways/stores in my neighborhood and thinking the in-lines might be better?
I've got a question regarding the glucose test. I had my 20 week appt today, and was told at 25 weeks I would take the glucose test, so I asked the doctor for the ingredients of the drink. She wouldn't show them to me and rattled of "just some glucose, water, and some other stuff." Huh? Why can't she show it to me if I have to ingest it?
I was having an open, honest conversation because I had questions/concerns about ingredients, but *in the end* after much back and forth and intimidation, after she pretty much left the room quickly and said I was done and ended the conversation hanging....I checked out at reception and she handed a Rx to me saying "you can eat 28 jelly beans of this brand" instead. Which, I'd rather know what I was eating, then not to know... that just makes my suspicions about ingredients grow even more!
p.s. i get the importance of the test! I've just worked really, really, really hard to cut all the chemicals and crap out of my diet...

Yes! and I'm still salty about it. Dd1 i used pampers and honest. Dd2 breaks out in hives for anything other than Seventh generation we tried all brands from huggies and luvs to honest and babyganics with no luck.

Yup and I was pissssssed - ha! DD used Target brand and we saved a buttload (ha) of money.
DS comes along and gets horrible rashes from Target brand and can only use Pampers Swaddlers. EYEROLL.
@danixbanani24 - My DD was 2y10m when my son was born and we went with a City Mini w/ a glider board and picked up a Sit N Stand. We HATED the Sit N Stand - it felt so cumbersome and tough to steer.
This time, DS will be 3y11m when baby is born. I’m opting for the City Select Lux as I can add a bench seat that accommodates a higher weight limit so if DD (she’ll be 7 when baby is born) is there, say at the zoo, she and DS can sit as needed.
@ohsunnydays you can get the ingredients from the lab or the pharmacy. It really is just a glucose drink, Facebook has developed a bit of a smear compain against it which is why heath care professional are a bit sick of people refusing the drink and having the same conversation with people over and over, which is likely why she seemed dismissive (I see that you said you weren’t which is awesome). Honestly the jellybeans have the exact same amount of sugar and other ingredients in them. The GD test quite literally saved my daughters life, GD caused my placenta to calcify early and if I didn’t know I had it, it would have gone undetected and my daughter could have very easily been a stillbirth.
@ohsunnydays that is so strange coming from a doctor! Eating jelly beans instead seems like it would be better taste wise. I hadn't heard of the smear campaign, I just see it as a necessary evil.
@ohsunnydays I would be willing to bet that your doctor doesn't know what is in it, and might not have easy, immediate access to it to check for you. It is pretty rotten to get blown off like that, but I don't think there is a lot of reason to hide the ingredients from you.
With my first, the glucose test was done in the lab adjacent to the OB's office. The OB and his nurses didn't have anything to do with the test other than to order it. For my second two, the doctor sent me home with the bottle and instructions on what to do at the end of the appointment before the test would be done. I have moved again, so have no idea how my new OB will do it, but I suspect it will be more like the first time.
Thanks everyone!! @lifeislove87 thanks for sharing your story and for the perspectives on on why docs might be like that. I totally get the importance of the test. I will keep this in mind. @madreofdragons good perspective .. @thechickendance yeah I thought the whole experience was a little odd. just trying to understand and wanted to ask a doc my questions instead of flat out refusing! @wifemomme it was just so interesting that I wasn't told the ingredients (or couldn't be sent them) as the test is done in the practice! and @sjnsjnsjn oh yeahhh, Hawaiian Punch! lol!
About this glucose testing with jelly beans: I really enjoy candy corn (as I've said at least 5 times now on this board). Can I bring them a massive bag of candy corn and say "Hey, how about you save yourself some work and some of that drink, and I'll just chill and eat these?" Do you think they'd go for that? Maybe? Possibly?
@cass06_07 I wish I was told after I asked many times! That’s what makes me suspicious that there’s bad crap in there. I’m sure there are different versions of the drink. But, if you give it in office, shouldn’t you as the doc be able to send me the list , even if at a later date?
I know the test itself is so important, absolutely, but you can bet I’m going to eat jelly beans instead if that is the test option I was given!
im a big advocate of using my money to support the food I want to see in stores. Same goes for this! You don’t tell me what crap is in it, I’ll ask for alternative!
Ps hope people don’t think I’m an over reactive health nut. Just have worked very very hard with my diet and want to advocate for my body! If I don’t speak up, who will?
@ohsunnydays , nope Im with you on this one... I didn't think it was anything more than sugar water til I saw your post. I mean, my prenatal vitamin does have gelatin in it (this bottle), even though Im vegan.. but you know, I let that slide as I was more concerned about getting right doses of what I needed. The second bottle ready to go is vegan now that I know what Im looking for.
I am def asking my MW what's in the glucose drink now!
@cass06_07- of course it is, which makes it so unclear why I love it SO MUCH!?
Precisely why I love and don’t want to know the ingredients of those sugar coated jelly “Fruit Slices”. So much yum. So much garbage.
I just like to take it all at face value. So candy corn is definitely just corn that's been candied. Fruit slices? Obviously just slices of fruit with some sugar on them. Nutter Butters are basically the same as the healthy nut butters that you see at Whole Foods. This works very well until you get to Sour Patch Kids. Then it's best to abandon my theory.
What is the difference in feeling of RLP and braxton hicks contractions? I mentioned some discomfort in my lower belly to the Dr today, and she told me if I'm having more than 6 episodes in an hour I need to get checked out. That hasn't happened yet, but I'd never been told instructions that specific. So when I was having some discomfort this afternoon and I tried to pay attention to how long it lasted and what it felt like I wondered if it was a BH contraction. Feels absolutely nothing like the labor contractions I had, as they were in my back and hips and much more "squeezy" than crampy. Curious what other's experiences are like.
For me RLP is a short, sharp, painful jab on either side, while BH lasts for a few seconds, feels like my belly is tightening but isn’t painful at all. I’ve only had BH twice but it was very different from RLP.
DS born 2/18/2019 DD born 4/1/2023 Baby #3 EDD 11/21/2024
BH are not really painful, but mostly annoying or uncomfortable. Definitely not like a contraction. It feels like your uterus gets really hard and shouldn't last more than a minute or two. RLP is stabby and crampy. They can double me over.
Ok, that makes more sense. Although I'm still not sure if the feeling actually is BH. Maybe there's just too much fluff going on to feel the hardening part. lol
@cass06_07 You are vegan, right? i can't remember who was on this board. I try to eat plant based as much as I can, but am not fully vegan or vegetarian. I do love these vitamins if you are looking for something else to try! They are DELICIOUS! And that's rare https://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Organics-Prenatal-Vitamins/dp/B06XSD99V3 GL with your midwife. I'd be curious of how they handle it and what your options are!

Ummm if there’s a Lolli & Pops anywhere near you, get their fruit slices. They’re the best in the world AND you can go there and try as many as you want for free. It’s my favorite place in the world. (I swear I don’t work for them, but I should because I’m obsessed.)
